    Comparing scores really means nothing.

I'm giving all my likes to this comment. Teams are not the same from one point of the season to the next.

Very entertaining watching my team score 94 points. Fun rooting for players that see a lot of floor time. I'm hopeful with all the floor time experience the kids are getting, they continue to improve with a March payoff (this season or the next...)

  2. Due to weather, the Appalachian Sate men’s basketball team’s flight was delayed. The game will be played tonight at 7 p.m. at JAR.

    Scouting the Mountaineers
The team enters the game with a 5-5 overall record after splitting their last four games. The Mountaineers opened the season with a pair of wins (Toccoa Falls, 135-35, and Bridgewater, 95-57), before dropping a pair of contests (Iowa State, 104-98, and Western Michigan, 86-67). 3. (More from the press conference posted above)

Anonymous reporter to coach Kiffin, "there are a lot of rumors floating around, I guess that's the elephant in the room, I won't ask the question" Kiffin "thank you"

Bobby Bowden is coming in the 17th. Coach (Terry) Bowden said "I'm known as an SOB down here in the south.......Son of Bobby."

Coach Bowden had to fly down for this conference, miss practice, and had to fly back that night to make today's practice.

Kato was the only player coach talked about in his opening statement. "we have a redshirt freshman at QB that is exciting and from this area"

The MC said "The PGA will be the host for Akron", not exactly sure what that meant. I'm assuming that is there hotel?

How do you use the extra practices?  Coach Bowden "we might have practice for an hour, cut practice, and work the players that aren't playing, we will spend time developing our young players for next year. We only have 15 practices in the spring, we get a bonus by having half (more) now"

  4. Scouting The Mastodons -- Fort Wayne enters the game with a three-game winning streak and a 6-3 overall record. The Mastodons ended a two-game losing skid against Kentucky (86-67) and ETSU (83-73) with a trio of wins over Detroit Mercy (91-82), IUKokomo (99-63), and SIUE (86-71). Fort Wayne. averages 83.7 points per outing on 45.0 percent shooting from the floor and a 36.6 percent effort from beyond the 3-point arc, draining 10.8 triples a game.

....in the previous 3 Boca Bowls, the smallest crowd has been 24k.  If you come, I think you will really like our stadium.

Good to know, that's exciting. Hope it's packed. I watched the North Texas game yesterday, and the stadium looks nice. The Zips should add palm trees and sunshine to their stadium.

Singletary is no-doubt our best player, and he leads the country with 29 rushing TDs.  We didn't start feeding him the ball until the 4th game of the season. But we also run the ball with a number of different guys including WRs and our QB.  Our backup RB has nearly 700 yards rushing, and as a team we are the #6 rushing team in the country (and Akron has the next to last rushing D in the MAC).

Singletary is first in the nation, OU's QB Rourke is second. Click here to see how the Zips handled Rourke. You are correct in reading the stats on rushing D, the stat you are missing is the Akron defense is pretty successful in the red zone (25th in the nation). The character of the defense this year has been giving up yards, but limiting points in the red zone, bend, don't break, as some like to say.

Thanks for taking the time to register, and post.

I'm waiting for Kato to catch a ball this year. He is capable. I wouldn't mind seeing a trick play this week.

Missed it by a few weeks, but with Lane's history of trick plays, and extra practice time,  maybe it inspires coach Milwee in a few weeks.

President Wilson really wanted this one. ?

  7. Good info, I wish the article included before and after weight, and a photo of Daniel.

Music to me ears....“I’m just thinking about getting to the dance, to be honest,” he said. “That’s one goal we haven’t really achieved … all the other stuff I couldn’t care less about.” (quote from the GT article)

  8. Mykel is rehabbing his knee right now and planning on playing next season. His attitude is off the charts positive. He is also currently working on his masters. He has been at every game, and is involved in every timeout huddle. He'll be in Boca, if they show a sideline huddle on tv, I bet you'll find him. Photo below is from Saturday at Ford Field.

Our tempo is killer. We move way faster than the chain crew (they usually run to catch up). This one time we ran 4-5 plays and scored in less than 30 seconds, just imagine how fast we are. And I think what makes it so hard is our offense has a lot of moving parts and trick plays.

From a trusted source, when asked about FAU's offense against North Texas: "What I did notice was that every player that had the ball and was tackled did a great job of locating and firing the ball back at the ball-spotting official.  You could tell that was drilled into every single player on that offense. No one just dropped the ball or did anything other than get it into the hands of the official..."

I think a good way to watch that offense is to look at our conference championship game last week.

Good idea, replay found here on WatchESPN  Attendance was 14 thousand for this home championship game, can't image more than that for the bowl.

Watching this game for a tad, there is no way the Zips defense will be able to make their typical substitutions during a drive. I'm glad they have a bunch of extra practices to prepare for this.

  10. Here is a November article about FAU's offense. Can an FAU fan give their opinion as to how accurate this is?

Their passing game is baaaaaad. The Owls’ passing S&P+ is 111th in the country. They started with Daniel Parr at quarterback, but they moved up Jason Driskel. Driskel has also not been effective, nor is he a very sophisticated runner. How are they doing this without a passing game and without an elite running quarterback? They play faster than anyone in the country (No. 1 in adjusted tempo), they have the best running back that you’ve never heard of, and their offensive line is a bunch of maulers. The running back: Devin Singletary. The sophomore running back is averaging 160 total yards per game, and he is special. One aspect about the Kiffin offense that I’ve loved is that he has a pretty small base package of plays that he runs very often at high speeds, but every base play has a followup. If there’s a jet sweep, there’s a jet-sweep reverse. They don’t mess around. They get to the line and snap the ball. The running game is built on playing with tempo and fooling the eyes of linebackers and safeties. The passing game is built on creating easy throws for Driskel. It felt like 50 percent of all their passes were different styles of screen pass. Even the Owls’ defense has gotten in on the act: The Owls have picked off opposing quarterbacks a nation-leading twice per game!

I wonder how coach Amato and coach Stroud will handle the Owl's offensive tempo? They like to do a lot of mass substituting and that may not seem possible against this offensive style.
