Senior point guard to sit remainder of season due to violation of athletics department academic policy.

AKRON, Ohio - University of Akron men's basketball student-athlete Johnny Hollingsworth has been suspended for the remainder of his senior season due to a violation of the athletics department's academic policy, head coach Dan Hipsher announced Friday. The suspension is not related to any NCAA eligibility issue.
Hollingsworth and fellow senior Derrick Tarver sat out the Zips' Feb. 21 game against Drake, serving what was then a one-game suspension due to the same academic violation. Tarver was cleared Friday to compete Sunday against Can't State.
"Being a member of the Akron basketball program means taking care of business in the classroom," said Hipsher. "We gave Johnny and Derrick an opportunity this past week to shore up some academic issues, and Johnny did not do so satisfactorily. Having my players graduate is first and foremost, and I won't reward them with playing time unless they hold up their end of the deal in class."
