CBS had him rated somewhere in the 60s among WRs after the combine.

Where did they rate AB when he come out? Edelman? How about Kenny Golladay this year? I was wondering how studied they are on the MAC receivers before I consider this being an important ranking. And when you write, "CBS", was it Pete Prisco, or someone else?

  2. According to ESPN's Mike Triplett, quarterback is "in play" for the Saints on Day 2 of the draft. While Triplett would like to see New Orleans land Tennessee's Joshua Dobbs if he falls to the third round, Miami’s Brad Kaaya, Notre Dame's DeShone Kizer, Pittsburgh’s Nathan Peterman and Cal’s Davis Webb will all be options to consider at No. 42. The Packers are reportedly interested in Kizer at No. 33, but that could be a smokescreen. The Saints are probably wise to start thinking about life after Drew Brees.

Do you think Pitt was planning to take Peppers and/or Njoku?

I don't think so, but only a dozen or so really know. Their number one need was edge. They met with Butt, Wormley and Taco at UM's pro day, but not Peppers. They did have a pro day meeting with Njoku, but it might have had to do with their interest in Kaaya since he was also brought into Pittsburgh for a private meeting. It's also possible they thought Njoku could be available later. They met with a bunch of mid round safeties and tight ends, so I'll guess their plan was to address both after round one. They met with three safeties that will more than likely go in round two, I'm guessing they are hoping one is available this evening. With the speediness of getting the 30th pick in, I'll guess they were pretty happy to get an edge guy. That's what ever team says, right? It will be interesting to see if Peppers can develop as a first round talent at safety. Since (supposedly) it's not his strongest position, I would let him concentrate on that for awhile before risking injuries on offense. Just my opinion though. I'll guess that Peppers would have a tough time in the Burg being a first rounder, since the last one they drafted in the first round was a HOF'er. He would get sick of hearing that around town as he learned the position and league.

Keeping on topic, I like what the Browns did in the first round by not taking a QB. I never believed they were taking Trubisky. But I have watched enough drafts in my life, to not count anything out when it comes to the Browns. I don't like any top media "rated" QBs in this draft for them. Next year, or after this draft, is their time to roll the dice on a signal caller, wether it's through the draft, or through free agency.

If you really like to study video I love watching draft breakdown video. You view a condensed version of the game, and see every snap. Most of the time fans just view highlights, those are all good right? Fans watch a highlight video of the guy their team just drafted, and say "he's a beast." This is the video that analysts watch and say "he takes plays off" or stuff like that. How great would this be for Zips games, so we could study each player and prove their value or not?

    Edit:

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Browns have "touched base" with the Bengals about QB A.J. McCarron. Rapsheet is hearing that Cincinnati's asking price for McCarron is "high," which explains why talks haven't gotten very far. Cleveland did well to land Myles Garrett with the No. 1 pick, but that obviously doesn't solve the team's quarterback conundrum. The Bengals don't have much incentive to move McCarron, who is under contract through 2018. The Browns also checked in on Patriots backup Jimmy Garoppolo but were told he's not available.

  4. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler believes the Steelers have "genuine" interest in Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes. Fowler's specific word is "intrigue." The Steelers have admitted they must begin their search for Ben Roethlisberger's successor, but Fowler doesn't expect them to "force" a pick. Pittsburgh doesn't pick until No. 30 on Thursday. Mahomes will likely be gone before then. Source: ESPN.com

  5. I'm hoping four or five QB's get selected in round one, I'm fearful that only two get picked. The math on the Dave Te Thomas rumored SF/Browns trade for the two pick comes up short according to the chart. Browns number 12, 33 and 65 adds up to 2045, they are short by at least another 2nd round pick. I think trading for the 5th pick is more reasonable for the Browns. I don't think anybody is taking Trubisky before 5, I'm not even sure anyone is taking him before 12. If he's not picked at 12, he might be available at 33.

With the Steelers supposed interest in Dobbs, I went back and watched every throw of his against App State last year. He looked mediocre to awful. I would be surprised if he were successful in the NFL.

  6. I just got done listening to a podcast with veteran draft scout Dave Te Thomas, super entertaining. He claims this year's QB class is one of the worst, he claims next years will be off the chart, like '83. Kind of in line with the post above. I like Kaaya late for a team with an established QB and system. I know the NFL team I root for is high on Dobbs, I am not. If I HAD to have a QB I suppose I would draft Mahomes.

Dave claims that his "SF contact" says the Browns have offered their 1st (12th pick), 2nd and 3rd for the 2nd pick overall because they want Trubisky.

He also claims that Myles Garrett is going to be Jarvis Jones the second. Likes Jamal Adams number one overall. He loves Ryan Anderson in round 3, he thinks he is a perfect 3-4 OL. Hates Takk McKinley, says the GM that drafts him will be selling apples in five years because he has had five shoulder surgeries. He says Dobbs is the smartest QB in the draft, and will pick up a playbook in one off season, compared him to Russell Wilson. Dave loves OLB Tyus Bowser from Houston, and claims QB Jerod Evans from VT made a big mistake coming out this year. His favorite sleeper CB is Brian Allen out of Utah, he is projected in the fifth, but Dave would grab him in the third. Claims he has heard from his "guys" that the Steelers are very interested in another MAC guy, Kenny Golladay from Northern Illinois. Speaking of local, he claims someone is going to get huge value out of the Adam Shaheen, the tight end from Ashland in round 2 or 3. Dave says OL and WR this year is very weak. He thinks Corey Davis is 50% healthy right now. Thinks that Andy Reid might come up in late round one and trade to get Davis Webb depending how the draft goes. Overrated WR, Zay Jones, underrated Carlos Henderson Louisiana Tech. Says the team up in Rutherford is looking to take WR Mack Hollins in the fourth. If Sam Donald comes out next year he might receive only the third perfect score (John Elway & Bo Jackson) since he has been scouting in 1968. Would consider tanking to get him. This guy gave more on the draft in a half hour than I have ever heard. He took the year off because his wife battled cancer. Never heard of the guy, but I wanted to document some of this so I can come back and check his work in a few years.

  7. Western Michigan WR Corey Davis visited the Ravens, Titans, Eagles, Browns, and Cardinals.

It is usually foolish to put much stock into where a prospect visits, but Davis' list could be important considering he was not able to work out at the Combine or his Pro Day because of ankle surgery. Davis did post a video showing him running routes, and he expects to be at full health in a few weeks. Of the visits, Davis noted the "feel" with the Ravens was "a lot different" than the others. Owners of the No. 16 pick, Baltimore could certainly use a receiver with Davis' skill set. Source: Rotoworld.

The fact that Stewart is injured now, and couldn't play in the spring game is enough reason not to get too excited about his potential.

I saw Stewart the week before, he looks the part, and caught everything thrown his way. He stood out. The receivers will benefit when Woodson starts playing again. Playing against the Zips secondary in practice is going to make the receiving corp better too, they won't play against too many better groups this year.

Honestly, Pittsburgh would be a great place for him to land. I can see Antonio Brown taking a real interest in helping another MAC player develop.

I follow the Steelers pretty close. Somebody like Jerome should be on this list if he had a good chance of being drafted by the Steelers. I agree, that he needs to get drafted by a team that has some established coaching and experienced veterans to have an increased chance of performing well.

  10. Being out of town, I was not able to attend, but I did listen to the broadcast. Steve and Brad really didn't do a typical game day broadcast. They had a lot of interviews from the sideline from Joe. All the interviews were pretty entertaining. Apparently a lot of ex Zips played a flag football game Friday night, sounds like all the participants had a lot of fun. I thought the most interesting interview Joe did was with Woodson. He described his injury as, an injury that started to heal on top of the injury. This is why it was hard to know if he was ready to play each week. Apparently they had to remove what was healing on his labrum and then fix. He said he felt good. Coach Bowden watched from the box. He mentioned that MTB got dinged, but no other injuries. I heard from a reliable source that he will be just fine. Speaking of MTB, I see he won Spring Offensive MVP.

“A lot of the guys turn 22 or 23 and their love of the game changes,” UA coach Terry Bowden said of Tuley-Tillman’s departure. “He saw the future of his life out there and football was not where he wanted to go. It happens sometimes. When a player decides they’ve had enough of football, they’ve had enough.” That means sophomore Trevor Brown and junior Undrea Bullard will battle to assume that role for the offense once the regular season rolls around.

Good for Logan, hope he is successful in his future. Justin Gilbert should have did the same.
