  1. Good for him. He's ment a lot to Akron and helping to bring success to this program. He's been through a lot with injuries and not playing his natural position but he keeps going and doesn't give up. Good luck to him.
  2. Like some other people mentioned, JD has gotten this team to win the MAC Championship in his second season and a bowl game appearance. We've beaten teams from BCS conferences. I honestly don't care if those teams are the bottom feeders in their conference. Those wins are huge. Also consider that the majority of media outlets had us finishing around last and not beating teams like Syracuse and Can't. I believe those same people had Can't finishing around the top. They are in a worser situation than we are. How many times have we won the Wagon Wheel? Also look at what happened to Clemson. Bowden stepped down and it sounds like he lost the team. I think we're in a better situation than they are.If it does come down to firing JD, I'd say bring in someone from a BCS caliber school. Getting someone from the PAC-10, Big-12 or SEC would be huge. Even the high mid-majors like a Boise State.
  3. I think Akron should schedule more games with teams from the Big East and C-USA to see how we do against those teams before we jump to another conference. We beat Syracuse, played tough with Cinci., but we did get blown out by UCONN last year. How would we fair against West Virginia, Pitt and Louisville? The Big East is a tougher conference then the MAC, so how would the team fair playing those teams week after week. In C-USA we have teams like Memphis, Southern Mississippi and UCF. If we can start scheduling those teams, we can see how we do. I do think Akron is capable of beating those teams and anyone else but I want to see it done on a consistent basis. We have the facilities now and in the future to draw attention, but we need our teams to be successful.
  4. Agreed. Credit to our entire team for winning that game. It was an ugly game, but to come out on top is a great feeling. I really hope we get to chant "Just like football" during the basketball season. Love it!
  5. Are Wagner and Patterson still with the team? I thought one or both of them either transferred or quit football to concentrate on academics. After Jacq., there is Matt Rodgers and Jordan Miller. I thought I saw another QB with the team that I didn't notice before. I think he wears #2 and his name was like Wackerly or something like that. I'll have to check but those are the ones I know and I thought Wagner and Patterson aren't on the team.
  6. I find it interesting that Akron is winning their games on the road and have not won one at home yet. It's good that they can win on the road, but I'd really like for them to start winning at home. I do think this team can win the rest of the games on the schedule, but like everyone is saying, which team is going to show up. Wouldn't it be something if the Zips finish around the top in the MAC and not around last where most had us finishing? Credit to the coaching staff and players for playing their hearts out every week with something to prove.
  7. ESPNNEWS cut in to the game towards the end of the fourth quarter. They were going back and forth between this game and other games. They focused in at the game during the overtimes, especially the second when Can't was trying to either tie or when. I jumped out of my seat when the kicker missed the field goal. I listened to the radio for a bit and Joe Dunn and Steve French mentioned that a couple thousand AK-ROWDIES made the trip. They were at the endzone where Can't's kicker missed the field goal and once they started cheering, the game was over. Dunn and French said their reaction was how they knew. Way to go ROWDIES!
  8. It seemed to me that more penalties were called in the second half than the first half. The refs are still the same in calling some bad calls. The intential grounding drove me insane. I saw a play very similar in the Penn State, Illinois game last night and it wasn't called. I guess it depends on the officials for the game. I also thought we scored a safety in the endzone. Was it? That was two points right there. Igor's missed field goal was bad. Usually he's pretty good of making them.A lot of other things happened. Our guys played tough. Cinci was averging about 35 points a game this season and we kept them under that. I heard Cinci players came here very confident thinking they were going to score big on Akron. They didn't. They should be thanking their lucky stars they won. It's time to move on and look to Can't. I hope our guys get fired up for that game.
  9. I sure hope we get a better turnout of fans this weekend. Ball State brought a lot of fans when they played us. Almost more than our fan base. I do expect Cinci to bring a lot of fans, but we've got to have more of our own. I'll be there. I was there in the rain when we played Ball State. Of all the days...likely rain on Saturday. Why?The Cinci fans say they're trying to figure out our team, I'm still trying to figure out our team.
  10. We've been seeing that anybody can beat anybody on any given day for the last couple of years. Nobody is afraid of the so-called big boys because teams believe they can beat them. We've seen teams from the WAC and Mountain West rise up. The MAC is starting to rise and I think will continue to do so. Who knows, maybe we'll see Akron become one of those teams that surprises people. I do find the polls rediculous because I do think there is some bias towards certain teams and conferences. Everyone, especially the media, seems to be in love with the SEC. On a side note, why is the Big 10 still called that when there are eleven teams? Don't they know how to count?
  11. We should have beaten Cinci two years ago at their place. We had that game and then we just folded in the second half. We should beat them this time. I haven't seen much of Cinci this year so I don't know how they look. I know they have a new QB. Our team needs to come out firing and play like that the entire game. Looks like the weather will be good so people should come out. They better. Zips' fans better wear blue and gold. I'm sick of seeing Suckeye colors. At the gates if people are wearing those colors, they should be given a shirt with Akron colors.
  12. I must say that I'm jealous that you went to the game. If I was there, I would being enjoying what I saw. I've only seen USC on television but when they're on, they're on and fun to watch. Like you said, they're a balanced football team. When Akron won the MAC in 2005, a couple of their fans said really nice things about that game and our team on one of the other sports message boards. They didn't have to respond, but they saw a great game and wanted to comment. It would be really cool if Akron could become a team like that in the future. It's happened to other teams in non-BCS conferences, why not the MAC and Akron.
  13. Yesterdays game was hard to watch. I thought the Zips had a chance only being down by 7 at halftime. From what I saw, it was hard to imagine this was the same team that beat Syracuse and had a respectable loss at Wisconsin. It seemed we didn't run the same offense like last week. The defense still needs to stop someone. I guess the good thing is that Ball State might be the best offense we'll see this season. Again, the refs made some very dumb calls but I guess that's the MAC for you. We still could have played better. I do hope people will still come out to support the team and wear blue and gold. It bothers me to see people wear Suckeye gear at Akron football games or at any of our sporting events. I did enjoy seeing the Suckeyes get a beatdown last night.
  14. I was actually pulling for Ohio to beat the Suckeyes. That would have been a huge win for the MAC. I do think it is only a matter of time before a MAC school beats OSU. The past two years, starting with us, they have not looked good. Not even their wonder child qb Pryor looked good. I do wonder what would happen if we played OSU this year and not last year. I'm still going to cheer for anyone to beat the Suckeyes.
  15. He has improved from last year. Last year was just insane with running a two-qb system. It works for some schools like Florida but not others. CJ does look comfortable running the offense and I think that has to do with him being the guy. He's waited his turn and now he can run the offense. The o-line does seem better, we have some good running backs and young talented receivers. Obviously it's important for CJ and the whole team to play well in MAC play. They'll have their first go against a MAC team versus Ball State. That should be a very interesting game.
  16. What a game for the Zips. The offense was really clicking-finally! The o-line did a good job of opening space for our running backs to run through. CJ did well for the second straight week and I like how mature he's become in leading the offense. He did some great ball fakes and even running himself. The defense needs to toughen up a bit. We can't be in shootouts every week. Overall, what a great win for our program. This should give our guys confidence. On a side note, I thought the Big East crew did a good job of calling the game. They gave Akron credit, talked about the MAC, our new stadium and even guys we have in the NFL like Hixon.
  17. I thought the Zips did well against a very good Wisconsin team. It was not a total blowout like most people thought. Hey, we did better than Can't. I liked some of the plays the offense did. If the offense can continue putting pressure on opposing defenses, we will do well. I think our defense will do pretty well. This was probably the best offense they will face this year. They do need to cut down on the penalties. Overall, I'm proud of the team.I do think the Zips can beat Syracuse now that they've had a game played. We can also beat Army and Cinci. MAC play is very important and I agree that the MAC could be tough this year. The MAC east could be up in the air this year. Central Michigan figures to win the West. This will be a very interesting season.
  18. I'm very impressed with how much they got done. I was there a couple days ago and everytime I come by more has been done. The stadium is really starting to take shape. Seems like just a while ago they were knocking down buildings and moving dirt. It's so exciting watching the stadium being built and even the other changes being done around campus.
  19. I was going to ask if any places where going to carry the game. This is good news. I was getting ill of all the channels televising the Suckeyes. How many do they need?
  20. The QB position is going to be very interesting this year. Unlike last year with the two QB system, maybe we'll just stick with one this year. I sure hope we do more hurry-up/no huddle offense instead of looking to the sideline for the play. Can we also not be predictable with our playcalling?! Even I could figure out what we were doing on offense. Hopefully the offense has some trick plays up their sleeves to keep the defense guessing. I don't expect a whole lot at Wisconsin, but when we get into MAC play-open the playbook. We sure got spoiled when Charlie Frye was here. Even Luke Getsy looks good at QB right now. At least we have kickers and won't have to borrow any soccer players. Let's hope.
  21. Whatever they decide to do to the Rubber Bowl, I think it would be cool to take home a piece of it. I would like to take home a piece of bench where I sat. Don't know where I'll put it, put it would be a nice little memory to have.
