Analyze all you want this is what i look at...of the 3 players that consume most of the minutes at the 1 and 2...62% of their shots are 3 pointers. This confirms my thoughts that despite what the philosophy says they are trying to do, basically it equates to alot of slow down play, swinging it around the perimeter, and shooting the trey. Roberts is a nice fit for this style. McNees you would think is a great fit for this. The combined lack of athleticism of this team also agrees with the slow down philosophy. There are several guys though that you look at their game and wonder "what the hell did Akron recruit you for, and why in the world did you go there?". Conyers, Humpty, and Zeke Marshall are guys who's games completely do not fit what Akron does offensively. All 3 are best fitted for an open court up and down type of game which favors the dribble drive offensively and forcing the defense to help off penetration. Akron does none of the above. But then again these are the 3 guys on this team that can run at all and they're almost never on the court at the same time.

KD could learn a thing or two about riding the hot hand. He kills guys momentum time and time again with his substituting and insistance on playing 10-11 guys.
-
it's unacceptable to violate team rules, they are there to provide structure and discipline. that being said, it's a little misinformed to say that the kid doesn't care about academics when speaking about a player who has one of the better grade point averages on the team. you don't have over a 3.0 as a student athlete by not taking your studies seriously. but yes you should go to class to set a good example regardless of how good or bad your grades are.

i joined zipszone last year, only to cancel when there wasn't a single video feed the whole year. as a matter of fact i couldn't name one thing that i got for my ten bucks a month. it was a joke. i sent several emails asking what was going on and if there would ever be video but NEVER EVER got a response.

It's hard to develop a killer instinct when you have such a deep rotation. These guys never know if they'll be in the game or on the bench at the end and the momentum switches so often with different personnel always in the game. it's a downfall of playing so many guys.

I'm wondering if there are any websites out there that anyone has consistently had good luck with finding the Zips games to watch online? If so, please list them. Also, if you find a link to a webcast of any Zips game either ahead of time, or archived online, feel free to list it in this thread so that we may all watch!!Thanks!

Akron at Texas A&M on Fox Sports Southwest

any way to watch online i wonder? -
The Zips were never really going to compete with the big boys anyways so i wouldn't lose any sleep over this if i were you.
-
it would be perfect if the game was at midnight, less competition for air time. that is, unless you have to get up early friday, but wouldn't you rather be a little tired and get so see more of the game?

Anything new on Humpty's ankle for tonight
Deeustin89 replied to The Hip Zip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
it was only about 70 percent going into the game so not suprising at all. terrible timing for an injury. -
which means the league doesn't get the advertisement that a game like this should provide.

winzip...i know what you mean man. i was looking for it on ESPN amongst all the other thrilling tourney games from the day. Not one of them had more clutch game changing plays than this one. Maybe there wasn't a TV crew in the house so not as much was made of it? i don't know.

Cowley is the number one ranked J.C. team in the country, or atleast they were the last time i checked. Ray is an effort guy. He works his tail off on the glass and runs the floor very well. He'd instantly be the best rebounder on the zips team, but i'm not sure how well he'd far offensively. If you want a guy to get you 7-8 boards a night and maybe 6-8 garbage points a game, he'd be a great fit...in a few years though. he's really thin and needs to let his body mature for a couple years before he'd be able to take the banging in the MAC for a full season. The OU thing was just a rumor. Although he did have a couple D1's ready to take him straight out of high school but he decided to get his grades in better shape, and work on his game as well as his body at Cowley.

Dave...one again you said it well in the previous post. Skip i don't expect you to declare him the second coming or best thing walking. But notice how quickly you just jumped all over the 0-22 thing? notice how all of a sudden he cost them the Can't St. game? (by the way i thought he was doing a pretty good job of icing the game for the Zips down the stretch from the line until McKee got free). Its been the same thing all year. You are just not very good at hiding your distaste for this one certain player. Add this to your glorious praise for Ronnie in the short time he played and starting threads about how anxious you are to see him play, and its not hard to put two and two together here. All year you harp on turnovers, well when the kid commits only 2 on a bum wheel, and assists on or scores pretty much every basket in crunch time to keep the Zips season going, all while taking care of the ball, you'd think that Skip would say "this is what i've been wanting to see out of him all year...good job"...but you're not capable of that. your bias is too strong.

wow....nice recap dave!!! funny how skip-zip didn't mention any humpty heroics in his post.....wait that would be because he would have to give him credit for something instead of harping on his short comings. no wonder he left that part out.

Bardo is the worst division 1 starter in the country
-
when you miss 21 in a row and still have a 32 percent average from 3 you should keep shooting them til you come out of it
-
quit shooting and you never come out of a slump.

great rebound win for the zips! Miami imposed their will to make it an ugly game, but the Zips took care of business at the JAR!!

well the black hole finally got hot. he was out of his mind today and really scored in a variety of ways. he didn't just settle for 17 foot fallaway shots all day. chris continues to be a steady and efficient contributer. mcnees is a streaky shooter we all know that and today he just couldn't find his rhythm. Hump was good down the stretch which was nice to see. i think coach needs to continue to play all 3 guards and let those that have been making the fewest mistakes in the first 35 minutes be on the court for the last 5. overall just a great win over a rival and hopefully i performance that will springboard the zips into a strong finish to the rest of the conference schedule.

skip-i was in attendance for this one so i'll shed some light from someone who saw it live:1. you are right. Take away the dumb mistakes and you can live with a 3-9 shooting game and 6 assists from your PG, but the bad thing was, until the end (when it turned into simply forcing it) Hump was simply being careless. falling down while dribbling and turning it over. guys not looking when wide open and the pass goes right by them into the hands of the defense, etc. I'm as big a supporter as there is of Humpty but at this stage i think KD has to play him according to how he's performing on that given night. If you only play him big minutes when he's taking care of it and creating for others, you will get better production because he turns it over in bunches and makes plays in bunches, i think the leash needs shortened to where its one or two turnovers and he's on the bench for extended time. The problem is obviously ronnie being out so the lack of depth, but tonight there was no reason he needed to come into the game with 1 minute left in OT and had sat the first 4 minutes of OT.2. Chris was very good tonight. he's scoring his best in the mid range. I dont mind him taking the wide open 3 but he's starting to catch a shoot a little too often for my taste. i like him taking the 15 footer or facing up, making a move and getting a good shot. But he was by far the bright spot offensively tonight and i'm pleased with his turnaround as of late.4. These shots kill us because its not like we are just getting it on the glass so someone can clean it up. we are horrible on the O glass. wild out of control shots are possession enders. I like our chances much better from outside, but it wouldnt be as bad if guys would step over, fill in and we had players who could dish it off for easy hoops. instead we have guys who get tunnel vision once they begin to drive to the hoop. its shot all the way no matter how good the help defense.5. The funny thing is the guys actually look for him and feed him in the post. Everytime they do i'm like "why do we think he can score 1 on 1 in the post"? especially because he never gets real good position, he's always catching it atleast 10 feet out which is much too far for him to be able to do anything with it.and i'll add my own tid-bit. game tying basket or not, it pains me to watch Brett McKnight. He simply has no idea of what is a good shot and a bad shot. He makes up his mind its going up when he touches it and it often results in 17 foot contested fadeaway jumpers. A guy who sat behind me tonight plays alot of ball with Brett in the summer and said that its no different then. he's putting it up when he gets it no matter what kind of shot he can get. that tells me its a mindset thing, and needs changing IMO.

humpty was atrocious tonight. chris was having a nice game when not saddled with foul trouble. gritty defense in the latter part of the first half and the second half but in the end another one they let get away. they are starting to add up.

skip-it seems like guys getting cold in bunches is the theme this year. how many games have we shot in the low 30's as a team? three or four? thats just not acceptable. guys arent finishing well around the basket and i think the percentages are a direct reflection of our approach not fitting the personel. We are a 3 point shooting team with a bunch of mediocre/streak shooters. Humpty seemed to miss alot of shots he usually makes, and definately blew a great chance with the 12 footer to end regulation, Nate has seemingly gone 0-20 on late game crucial situation 3's this year, and Brett earned the nick name "black hole" from the large contingency i was watching the game with. the odds of him receiving the ball within 20 feet of the basket and passing it off are not very good, often resulting in ill advised and heavily contested shots. The shot selection of the team as a whole wasn't where it should be late in the game. Its scary to think of some of the margins of loss for some games this year if it weren't for the defense the Zips have played.

the attendance for this game was in the 700's. that should tell you a little bit about the state of the UNC-Greensboro program.

thought the zips showed alot of heart battling back the way they did. they were down heavily and didnt give up. made a game of it late but couldnt quite close the distance. the difference in the game was the early turnovers in the face of the Ram's full court press. Akron turned it over 6 or 7 times early alot of them for layups that gave VCU a nice cushion to work with the rest of the game. After a while the Zips backcourt got the hang of it and started getting the ball up easily but often they were so late in the shot clock starting their offense that they didnt get off a good shot. I thought the McKnights played well, especially Chris, which was encouraging. I'd like to see Brett take better shots when he gets the ball down low instead of the 15 foot fadeaway. The first half wasnt pretty at all but i think that there is alot the Zips can take away from this game as positives for the future. Although like someone said there are no moral victories. Zips need a big winning streak and some good shooting. Roberts play has got to improve as well. Random sidenote i know haha
