Does anyone have a link for the stream anywhere cant seem to locate it....

They have had some pretty bad luck as well, anytime a teams loses one of their leaders and best players to injury during the tourney its difficult to bounce back, they needed some good luck to combat that....

After he said I was "arguing just to argue" it became a moot point to me. Facts were not going to change his mind. Sometimes issues are just at an impass, which I may have entered into this topic at a point of no return. Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in... I think both sides have enough merit behind them that its hard to sway from either.

Someone has to go based on us offering 3 kids scholarships and only 2 guys leaving. As well as a possible prep school guard coming in. I would be suprised to see Steve Sweich or Ronnie Steward back. As far as NIk or Maclanahan going anywhere I doubt that very seriously...

If you wanna watch games won with offense watch the NBA, for the most part college games are won and lost on the defensive end and the free throw line. Although I can see how one can easily say it wasnt good defense but bad offense. With a sample size so small as teams with at least two games in the tournament the stats are too easily skewed. After reading all these posts it just seems to be differing philosophies being pushed back and forth with "facts". Im just not sure how to prove your point to someone who disagrees on such a basic level as.... your wrong.... It seems like a tough battle, I enjoy the fire of ZN.O... +1 for defensive minded college bball being successful.

What if we have a regular season championship, but lose to a 24-5 K.e.n.t. team in the MAC finals? What if Zeke went 18ppg/13rpg and led us to a legit 24-5 record, where we actually beat California and Dayton during the regular season? Just because we aren't NCAA tourney material today doesn't mean we need to resign ourselves to never being NCAA tourney material. If we continue to schedule weakly, and lose to all our decent OOC opponents, it is a moot point. But I refuse to resign myself to that scenario. I wasnt proposing us as never being tourney worthy, simply explaining my position of being against the expansion because I dont think it helps us or the tourney and also adding.... we didnt win either so we didnt deserve it this year anyways... and there arent many recent examples of mac schools with no piece of a championship- reg or tourney- that deserved a bid. So I was trying to point out the fact of the expansion not being a good idea from a few different perspectives. Thats all, and I still think a zips team with wins over Cal and dayton regardless of indiv stats and no championship gets snubbed.

The line akron fans have no choice but to agree or recognize how the move to 96 can only help is questionable. If this is the case you have to believe 2 things, 1. the tournament will not be watered down and 2. it provides for a better tournament set up. I for one believes it waters down the tournament and stand strong in the belief that the mac as of now would be a 1 bid league even in the 96 team set up. I mean there seems to be some better options out there including the current 64 team set up beside the 96, some of which that have been outlined in this topic. As far as the tournament as a whole I think the current schedule is great for fans and teams alike. The bid is something that is coveted and fought hard for and the tournament has produced the hard fought games and upsets that I believe everyone looks for. I want my tournament to provide a high level of basketball from the start, while providing an opportunity for teams who have earned a spot to make a run. As a true honest zips fan, with no mac regular season or tournament titles, we dont deserve to go.

I keep hearing many people discussing the move to 96 teams. I was just wondering what everyone had heard. I mean by no means can it hurt the mid majors, but from what Ive been hearing Im not sure if the MAC would benefit I dont know if the expansion would help the zips us too much more either. Based on what I have seen and read, a lot of the analysts think they would be used to fill in the bubble bcs schools. I mean no invite to the NIT this year, theres 32 teams, and I think we all can agree its the more prestigious of the non-ncaa 64 tourney. If the 32 teams would be used to include mid-majors great, but if they just take 3 or 4 more teams from BCS conferences then whats the point. I mean a lot of what is pointed is rpi and strength of schedule. Its almost impossible to compete in those respects with big conferences because their schedules are fueled by in conference performance. If the field is moved to 96 how much of a joke is the invite to anything else...

I have been a tremendous fan of Akron basketball during my time here at the University and have always been proud of the fan base surrounding it. The Rowdies have always been creative, exciting, and positive for our guys. The fans have traveled suprisingly well, I was at the NIT games, many road games, and saw the support out in Oregon. But much to my displeasure since the end of this 2nd cant loss some of our "fans" seem to have lost perspective. The perspective of being a fan is to support, cheer, whatever you want to call it. I understand that if you are a true fan you are upsetted by things like these 2 bad losses and feel the need to vent. I think zipsnation is a great forum to do that. However, I unfortunately was the witness to some things over the weekend that were outrageous. I think it absurd for fans to think they can use players facebook walls to criticize and harass them, or see them in public and criticize them. I dont mind the, " hey guys lets get it together...GO ZIPS". But the, "im a rowdy/former rowdy/true fan and use, you guys F***** suck" is stupid. I dont think anyone would believe that our guys wanted to lose that game, especially the way it happened, so if your a true fan lets pick them up and get them ready for the tourney. The last thing they need is to worry about harassment from "fans". There is a reason they are on the floor/bench/coachs box and we are in the stands/on the couch. If you consider yourself a true fan recognize what your place is, here-forums, in the stands, cheering on our zips, not in the players personal lives trying to draw some sort of reaction. I am not posting this to scold all fans or rowdies, just to hold accountable those classifying themsleves among the rest of the true fans and doing it entirely the worng way. So if your a fan lets stand up, cheer loud, and push our zips to the dance. And if your one of the few, or know those people, who are doing it the wrong way, grow up.

As much as I would have loved to see us go into the Q with a regullar season title and the 1 seed, I dont really know if we could have asked for a better road. We are clearly on the side of the bracket with the easier road. Granted we have already lost to Eastern and let the CMU big guy drop 34, I still think these match ups favor us more. I am hoping Cant gets popped off b4 the finals, I understand the sweet revenge it would be, but of the 40 minutes we've played them so far a strong portion of those have been no doubt domination by Can't, ie both 2nd halves. I dont think we couldnt beat them, I think we have the talent to beat anyone in the MAC, period, but for whatever reason they seem to have our number. So lets hope we turn it on at the right time like last year and this time next week we are all making our reservations and filling out our brackets with the zips in it!

I am not trying to say that human emotion doesnt play a role in some refs calls sometimes or there is only one Tim Donaghy out there, but for most of these guys at this level this is a job/career. The idea that refs are jeopardizing their ability to be assigned and move up to bigger better paying games in order to stick it to a player/coach/team would be counter productive to the whole process. I myself am a referee and have been to the camps and trainings for officials at the collegiate level, it takes a lot of hard work, effort, sacrifice, and years to get to the division 1 level. I can honestly say that I think it is a bit comical for people to think that officials are "cheating". I would agree with a few previous posts that allow for bad calls and an adjustment to athleticism. Simple facts of the game, all officials blow calls. Officials call what they think they saw and if you are not used to seeing an athletic 7 footer it could happen, definetly not an excuse, a bad call is what it is, simply agreeing with a previous explanation.

I for one am excited for the opportunity that few college students and football fans have in that we will be the first set of individuals on a University of Akron on-campus Footbal Stadium. We have a great opportunity to set traditions that will be ingrained in the stadium and teams tradition. These could be pre-game tailgating or in stadium cheering. I just got really pumped to think about the idea of leaving a mark on Akron Football tradition and was curious as to what ideas people had brewing to put their stamp on this inaugural season. If we do this right, when your kids come home from college talking about how great the game was, we could say we started that!!!I know with the passionate fans we have to.. to make the trek to the rubber bowl.... there should be no shortages of ideas.

non conference schedule...Elton's take...
akzips10 replied to mivid12's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
The issue that I think we may be overlooking is the fact that it is hard to schedule tough games for a school like the zips. For example scheduling someone like Ohio State, seems attractive, in state rivalry, travel distance minimal. But what does a top conference school like Ohio State or Pitt or Insert Big Name here, have to gain by playing a team like Akron. Of course everyone is thinking well they have to play someone. If you are part of a big conference team you gain nothing by beating a mid major, so why play one of the toughest. Im sure our reputation of being pretty tough at home as well as able to play with almost anyone is out, so we are going to be a tough sell for a schedule filler. Who is going to want to come in the jar, nobody big. Why, because its a lose lose situation for the big teams. Ohio state would get just as much out of beating YSU than Akron when it came to selection Sunday for the most part. If they win nothing is noted, but if they lose Akron goes right into that key losses column. Im not saying its right or fair its just common sense, if we would have beat Pitt last year how many times do you think they would have heard about that when they were bidding for a 1 seed. I think we have to give away the farm to schedule a lot of teams by traveling all over and getting not much in return. Im not saying we should shy away from trying, I just think we should understand the difficulties involved in scheduling a top mid-major team we have become. -
With the reccent play of Tim Carroll and some strong early minutes from fellow walk-on Eric Coblentz in games like Winthrop, if we put them in and they play well, why aren't we continuing to give them a chance? I understand their status as walk ons but Coblentz had a strong showing shooting in his short time and Carroll is a strong defender and rebounder for his size. If they are getting the job done, dont just stop playing them!
