  1. With all due respect, please go away then. If you aren't supporting this program when things are bad, I don't want you around when things are good again. Josh Egner, Alex Abreu, Quincy Diggs, Nick Harney, and Demetrius Treadwell - five players in eleven seasons (and Diggs returned matured and humbled and graduated from UA, so really four). If you want to focus on those four guys and ignore Nate Linhart, Brian Walsh, Dru Joyce, Nick Dials, Zeke Marshall, etc. - and current guys like Jake Kretzer, Noah Robotham, Reggie McAdams, Antino Jackson, etc - that's your choice. If you want to believe these guys aren't better when they leave than when they arrive, you are entitled to that opinion, although I strongly disagree. Every program in America is going to have disciplinary and/or legal issues pop up. My concern is how the university and program respond, and ours do so in a swift and stern matter. I hope you're just upset and you reconsider, but if not, best wishes to you finding a new program to follow.
  2. I think you've already seen a shift in recruiting. KD isn't going anywhere unless he decides to.
  3. We may have seen the last of Tree.
  4. You're talking academics when this discussion is based on off-court disciplinary issues and how the team/university handle them. Two entirely different topics.
  5. I like Pat, but really? What NBA teams are scouting Pat as a junior?
  6. The key to this season may now be Big Dog. No Zips aside from Tree averaged more than 5 RPG last season. Forsythe isn't a good rebounder and Cheatham is more of a stretch 4 than anything else.
  7. The sky is falling!
  8. We discipline players far more than the majority of universities, yes.
  9. This team is now super-young. SR - Ibitayo, Evans JR - Kretzer, McAdams, Forsythe SO - Cheatham, Johnson FR - Robotham, Jackson, Jackson, Gladden
  10. Whoops, that's what I meant. Edited to fix.
  11. Yep. Diggs and Harney would have never missed time most other places. It's great because you want high standards but it sucks when it hijacks a season in November.
  12. This team is going to be a lot different with no Treadwell. My guess (once Big Dog is back): C-Johnson/ForsytheF-Cheatham/Aa. JacksonF-McAdams/KretzerG-Ibitayo/Gladden/EvansG-Robotham/An. Jackson Greyshirt: Ivey It's also possible they go small - Johnson/Kretzer/McAdams/Ibitayo/Robotham
  13. We're one of the few schools that hold our student athletes to very strict standards.
  14. Obviously not good. Time for some of these young guys to step in and step in...and hopefully Big Dog's healing up fast.
  15. USC lost at home last night to a Portland State team that finished 2013-2014 at 17-15 overall. USC shot the ball well but committed 23 turnovers, while Portland State only gave up it 4 times. The Trojans play again on Monday against Tennessee Tech.
  16. My predictions: 1. MVP - Demetrius Treadwell - This is is likely the one we'll agree on the most. Equipped with better team chemistry and an effective point guard, Treadwell will benefit a great deal. Tree will have a monster senior season and will cement himself as one of the best Zips of all-time. Finishing his career Top 5 All-Time in both points and rebounds is completely realistic. 2. Biggest Surprise - Noah Robotham - I don't think this kid is getting enough hype. Yes, he's playing the most difficult position to play as a true freshman, but consider this - when was the last time a true freshman was a lock to start for Keith Dambrot? He's going to be something special and is my pick to be MAC Freshman of the Year. 3. Biggest Disappointment - Kwan Cheatham - I still like Kwan long-term as a player, but I think he's further along from being a major contributor than others do. He'll play a lot as long as Big Dog is out, but once he returns I can see Aaron Jackson pushing Kwan for the minutes backing up Tree. 4. Award Winners - Demetrius Treadwell (1st Team All-MAC), Noah Robotham (Freshman of the Year, 1st Team All-Freshmen) 5. Season Result - MAC Champions, defeating Toledo in a close game. However, I think the Zips still fall short of the elusive NCAA Tournament victory.
  17. It was a long wait from that awful Friday night at The Q but the Zips are finally playing a basketball game tomorrow. Let's hear the following: 1. MVP 2. Biggest Surprise 3. Biggest Disappointment 4. Award Winners 5. Season Result (Vote in Poll, give reasoning in thread)
  18. Updated projections on the original post
  19. For what it's worth Antino shot 33% on 187 3 point attempts his senior year of high school according to MaxPreps.com.
  20. I'm excited for this game. The Zips are 4-2 with Pohl starting. I believe they would have won at least one (if not both) of the MAC games they lost had Pohl started. A win puts the Zips in the driver's seat for the MAC East - a win Tuesday followed by wins over Buffalo, UMass, and Can't State (all very winnable games) puts us in Detroit on December 5th.
  21. AKRON, Ohio - University of Akron students are being lured to Tuesday night's nationally televised football game by the chance to win free tuition for spring semester – a prize worth $4,309.08. And just in case the students don't get the message – the university has sent emails about the offer to parents. Three tuition prizes will be awarded to randomly chosen students at the game. Another student, who has used #ZipsBlackout on social media the most by noon Tuesday, will also receive free tuition. Officials hope the innovative promotion fills InfoCision Stadium –Summa Field as the Akron Zips play Bowling Green State University. The university opened a football stadium on campus in 2009 with the hope of drawing more students, especially as it expanded on-campus housing. Students attend games for free. But the average attendance for the four home games this year has been 9,775 in the 27,000-seat stadium, according to the football website. It is not known how many students attend, said Cathy Bongiovi, assistant athletic director for communications. The university wants a big crowd because the game against the defending MAC champion will be televised on ESPN2. The university has dubbed the game #ZipsBlackout, with the home team wearing all black uniforms and gold chrome helmets. Fans are encouraged to wear black. The first 5,000 who enter the stadium will receive a free long-sleeve black shirt. Gold paper helmets also will be distributed to students. "We want to reward the student body for its support and hopefully bring more people to the game," Bongiovi said about the tuition prizes. She said Athletic Director Tom Wistrcill proposed the promotion, which needed approval from the administration and the legal department, which approved the rules. Students will scan their Zip Card to enter the game. The names of two students will be announced during each of three media timeouts in each of the first three quarter - for a total of 18 names. If a student does not check in within 10 minutes another name will be drawn. The students whose names are drawn will sit together until the last drawing at the end of the third quarter. Their student ID cards will be placed in a helmet and Zippy the mascot will draw three. The tuition is the amount for an in-state student and winners will have to pay $650 in student fees for the semester. Students must enter the stadium before kickoff and student-athletes are not eligible to win. Student promotions have been held during games but nothing at the level of free tuition, Bongiovi said. "It will hopefully help," she said. "We have very loyal students but this year it is hard to get them motivated to come to games." A tuition giveaway tied to a football game may be the first by a university. The University of Iowa in July suspended a promotion to raffle off free tuition to five students who bought $175 season tickets to Hawkeye football games. Questions were raised about its legality and if it would be compliant with state raffle laws. The tuition prize was worth about $8,000. It will not cost UA students anything to enter the tuition contest other than three hours of their time.
  22. The only thing I see holding this back is it seems KD likes bringing either McAdams or Kretzer off of the bench so he can always have a deep threat to stretch the floor. With that said, I'm not sure if Gladden is going to start day one and/or that Deji isn't the 3rd best player among the three.
  23. Good call on Wilson.
  24. Betancourt's spot won't be filled - right now anyway. There's always a chance for a mid-year addition, but more than likely the Zips will use the extra scholarship next season. As for roster depth, don't forget Cristen Wilson and Malcolm Walters signed on as preferred walk-ons.
  25. With Betancourt gone, the big question is who starts at 2. Johnson/Tree/Kretzer/Robotham should all be expected to start. Ibitayo, McAdams, or Gladden?
