  1. Disagree with this. If Reinaldo holds the ball up anything like he did this weekend we'll be fine.
  2. A performance that dominating and we are worried about attendance for a Sunday night game at 7:30? Come on...
  3. Want it to be clear that in no way shape or form would I consider any of this as 100% going to happen (except seniors graduating, of course). Pure conjecture on my part.
  4. Rumor mill is that he's already been offered a HGP multiple times but wanted to play for Porter. This is all internet hersay though. As sad as it is to say, I can't imagine more than 3 or 4 of this years starters will be back next year. Quinn and Derschang are not attached to any MLS teams so aren't eligible for HGP. They also can't transfer as they already used their one. Meves, Barson, Caldwell and Schmitt are seniors, Trapp, Serna, Gallego, and Yedlin are HGP's. No inside info, but I would imagine CP leaving will move teams timetables forward.
  5. They've poured a lot of time, energy and money into this program. The community seems to love Akron soccer. Caleb Porter, however important he may be, is not Akron soccer. I would believe that they would conduct an extensive search to find the next coach. Only issue I can see is that it's not Cali or somewhere tropical, so location may be an issue.
  6. No chance this happens. Too many players have too much on the line. 4 seniors, 4 HGP candidates and some GA candidates in the starting 11. No way they let this effect them. Lapse at Creighton? Possible. Losing the next two? No way. I've said this before and I'll say it again: I believe that stuff like this affects fans way more than it does players We are powerless so we let emotion take over. I see this playing out one of two ways: 1. Porter stays for the rest of the season and the team comes together to win a championship for the person they came to play for. It would be mindboggling to me if any of the guys on the team begrudged him his chance to move on to the next level, considering they are at Akron for the exact same reason. 2. Porter leaves now and they rally under Embick, who everyone seems to like and respect. As someone said previously, there are too many talented players with professional aspirations to let this destroy the season.
  7. Another absolutely ridiculous list. The weight given to players because of their class is outrageous. Wil Trapp isn't one of the 12 best midfielders in the country? Give me a break...
  8. Yeah, I knew that. Just seems like an odd path to a top 5 team.
  9. Can someone explain to me where the hell Abdul-Salaam came from? Walk on no-names don't usually get time at schools like Akron, but he played a good 20 minutes last night and used his time well.
  10. Obviously wasn't at the game but my impressions are as follows: Meves: played extremely well. He got down and stretched out on balls quicker than I remember. Only had one or two clearances that I can remember but both seemed to be more accurate and with more distance than last year. Yedlin: Thought he was the MotM. Obviously I'm biased but I think the argument is valid. Lockdown D and the entire offense ran through him in 2nd half. Barson: Typical CB game. Steady, strong, composed. Nothing flashy, no screw ups. Gallego: Same as Barson. Thought he loooked pretty good when he moved forward into DM role in 2nd half. Portillos/Fives: Neither really jumped out at me. Thought Fives did well in 2nd half but he was also given an enormous amount of space as SLU shaded their defense to their left (our right). Foldesy: Thought he did well, especially as a freshman in his first start. Biggest knock on him is that he's not Wil Trapp. Caldwell: Typical Scotty game. Thought he distributed fairly well. Should have done better on some of his finishing balls (through balls, crosses, etc.) Stevenson: Same as Portillos/Fives. Didn't jump out at me. Should have finished Koroma's cross. Maybe I'm a bit more critical because I was excited to see Derschang Koroma: Grown ass man. Will be an absolute beast. Puts his head down a bit too early but that will improve with time. May need to work on fitness...looked like he was laboring around 65th. Serna: Saw flashes of what he is capable of. Biggest knock about his play last night was that he didn't get the ball enough. Obviously not his fault, but I'd like to see him on the ball more. Was too bad he couldn't finish that header, put himself in a great position. Schmitt: Would have like to see more out of him in first half. Should have had a goal on the ball that was called offside. It looked to me that in 2nd half he and Koroma switched, with Koroma up top and Schmitt out wide. I really liked (and liked last year) the combo of him and Yedlin on the same side. They seem to really understand and enjoy playing off each other. Also gets the taller Koroma up front for any crosses into the box. Quinn: Thought he played really well once he got in the game.
  11. I can't get over how much Serna looks like Clint Dempsey...he's literally a dead ringer for him.
  12. My guess is a 4-3-3: Derschang-------Schmitt-----Koroma -------------------Serna------------------ ----------Caldwell--------------------------- -----------------------Trapp------------- Portillos/Stevenson/???----Gallego-----Barson-----Yedlin
  13. Why not? They were good last year.
  14. Yeah, chances are a lot of this formation guessing is just semantics. They played a 4-3-3 last year but the two outside backs were so high it looked more like a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 sometimes.
  15. Think hed play D
  16. Four players from Iona made it. 15 players out of the top 25 ranked men's teams made it. This list means beyond nothing.
  17. They gave Serna the 10. Would boggle my mind if he's not in Ampai's role. Caldwell can't do it and Trapp doesn't play that style. Agree with your sentiment about the destroyer DM...I think Trapp could do it though. I think this team will be a lot better defensively regardless of who is in that position. DeA's defense is lightyears ahead of where it was just a year ago and we know CB and BG always bring it. Have heard good things about Morris. I would tend to agree wtih you on Schmitt but it sounds like he absolutely tore up spring season and is doing really well already. Can anyone make it out to their second practice tonight? I know they had an 11 v 11 scrimmage last night that sounds like it was 1's v 2's so maybe we could glean something from a scrimmage tonight.
  18. Its more likely that Souders plays inside and Gallego moves outside. Remember Gallego played all over the place last year and from what I know about Souders he's a CB exclusively.
  19. How so? Completely different team playing a completely different system. Ramos' outside backs don't get up anywhere near as much as Porter's.
  20. All I know is that this team should be absolutely disgusting this year. The leap forward that DeAndre and Aodhan made from the end of the season to right now is like night and day. I can only imagine that other kids have done the same. Losing Darren will hurt, but I think Alfred and an improved Schmitt should really really work well up top.
  21. I also can't see Derschang transferring to sit on the bench...maybe he's our new left back?
  22. I'm pretty sure you can add Wil Trapp to that list.
