  2. Every time this thread gets bumped, I am ever so briefly excited about the return of the old Southwest Conference. Now that was a crazy league.
  3. Zips open as 22 point underdogs. While I agree with those who think it's not the time for a "depth chart overhaul", I wouldn't mind seeing some "tweaking": 1) Let Hundley and DJ Jones carry it more. 2) Sconiers and Frieson going down has wiped away the depth the Zips once had at WR. Maybe JC7's speed would be of better use with him as a full time receiver? 3) Drew Phillips looks like he deserves a shot at KR and slot receiver. 4) The transfer O-Linemen are certainly large, but they are very slow and not very athletic (there's a reason they were each available). I think this is a big part of the running game woes. Let's keep the redshirts on this year's class of O-Linemen, but start to get a few more reps for the 2nd year guys, especially when the game is out of hand. 5) Bowden starts to call plays again.
  4. Thanks, Dr Z This article reminds me of something I've been harping on lately and it showed once again at BG. This defense is VERY good at forcing fumbles. But we need to start recovering them! If this (a recovery) had happened in either of the last two games, these plays could have been game-changing. It would be great to have TT and his RBs cough it up a few times on Saturday, resulting in a few key turnovers. Zips tied for 6th nationally in sacks.
  5. Since I made my prediction, one thought has been gnawing on me. I’m selling these guys a little short picking them to lose, no matter the margin. The 2013 football Zips are clearly relying on many new, yet experienced faces, so it shouldn’t be surprising that it’s taken a little while for this team to gel. Four games are under their belt, and now I think they just might be ready to play a complete game. In a stunning move, flying in the face of message board etiquette and the Vegas odds, I hereby revise my prediction as follows: Zips 38 Falcons 31 Take that Hustle Belt, Bleacher Report, and Ziggy Zombie Poombah!! :gun: :gun: :gun:
  6. GT on TB's approach heading into BG. There are also some long awaited answers regarding play-calling in there: Thanks, GT!! Maybe you could ask about tempo the next time you get a chance?
  7. NH15 is listed as questionable this week, with Sconiers the only other Zip showing up on the report . So I’m encouraged that we seem to be pretty healthy heading into BG. The big caveat is how much or how little KP16’s ankle was bothered versus Louisiana. I’m definitely concerned about Johnson, as he seems to be the missing link for the BG offense. Based on his stats, it looks like he can pull it down well enough to keep defenses honest also. Joplin is the type of big WR that can cause a lot of problems for us. The only way I envision UA keeping BG from scoring their fair share (they average in the low 30s) is to create turnover opportunities AND take advantage of them. The Zips defense has shown a good ability to force fumbles, but they need to recover more of them starting with this Saturday. Indiana piled up over 600 yards against these guys, so the Zips should be able to move the ball with some consistency. If TB goes ahead with what sounds like a more aggressive offensive game plan, the 1st few drives will be telltale. If the Zips can open the scoring, something they have failed to do all season this far, the chances for an upset increase considerably. If BG hadn’t played so well at home this so far year, I’d be more inclined to pick an upset. But I going to use my head to predict this week: Falcons 38 Zips 31
  8. BG fans at Ay Ziggy Zoomba aren't taking the Zips lightly.
  9. That’s not too surprising. DW13 understands the passing game extremely well. Thanks for the insight
  10. Post-Lousiana snippets: 1. Broadway is simply a fantastic spread QB. 2. The Cajun WR Robinson (#15) is outstanding. 3. Louisiana ~ Michigan 4. The Cajuns scouted D’Orazio well, taking away the intermediate routes early (factoring into the early picks). TB/AJM adjusted with the nice deep ball over the top. ZD11 has enough speed to make aggressive teams pay, so I hope we see more of that down the road. 5. Not being able to recover at least one of the three forced fumbles (especially the patented strip by Capi) was a big opportunity lost. This could have offset the early picks. 6. As everyone has noted, the onside kick call by Hudspeth was a great call, more than making up for a few odd decisions earlier (fake FG comes to mind). I think part of his motivation was a sense that momentum was slowly turning towards the Zips, and that the UA offense was beginning to click. How many quality opponents have been forced into making such decisions at the Info the last few years? 7. Besides the onside kick, the stumble by TW22 when it looked like he had a certain 1st down was also a huge play. 8. KP16 looked like he may have dinged his ankle during the 20 yard scramble late. I really hope he is OK, since NH15 (nor DF83) were in pads. 9. I thought RS48 would have a nice year, but so far it’s been a struggle (granted, most attempts have been 45+). This is somewhat troubling if you believe, as I do, that the Zips will be competitive in just about every game left on the schedule. He’s been pushing them left for some reason. Hopefully, he’ll get it straightened out soon. Maybe a game against BG will be just what the doctor ordered. 10. Good beer, great food, tough loss. We need to break the Lot 9 paradigm ASAP!
  11. I predicted 4-8, with likely wins over JMU, K.E.N.T., Miami and UMass. I still think the Zips are on track for that, so I voted "meeting". I still think there's a reasonable shot of an upset as well in any of the remaining games, hopefully sooner than later since success breeds more success. The tough Michigan loss looks to be partially fool's gold. I'm not sure there's much difference, if any at all, between the Wolverines and the Ragin' Cajuns.

  13. I recall our conversation. You sat in front of us. Maybe you'll get to visit the Info in November. If so, you'll need to stop in Lot 9 and say hello!
  14. I can only speak for myself, but my remark was very much tongue-in-cheek and I suspect others were as well. I really like UT's campus and kind of enjoyed walking over train tracks on the way to the Glass Bowl. Sorry for not making my intent clearer
  15. AND a train runs right through campus
  16. Maybe he was just upset that the Zips Win! TV antenna is no longer there
  17. Interestingly, Louisiana also has an Aussie punter on their roster, and he is their starter!
  18. That's a big concern for me heading into this game. I've seen Broadway in a few TV games, especially this one, and he does everything at a fast pace. I don't think we can simply key on his running, but we'll have to slow their running game down some to have a shot. I'm going with a shootout, thinking KP16 and the WRs can pick up where they left off last week. Zips 45 Ragin' Cajuns 42
  19. Perhaps MDZip is being swayed by the famously high female-to-male student ratio at BG?
  20. Knit one, pearl two. Knit one, pearl two. I have always followed the less prominent (nationally) programs and conferences, and I recall USL getting off to a great start in 1976 in the original version of the Southland Conference (before I-AA was created in 1978). The following youtube gives highlights of what had to be a somewhat frustrating season with Northwestern St ending the perfect season one week and McNeese St taking the Southland Crown (and Independence Bowl bid). Ahh that 70's music.
  21. The Sports Bank has the Zips as the team to beat in the MAC and #61 in the country.
  22. Thanks for the explanation. I was familiar with the old USL and NLU monikers. This sounds a little like the issue Ohio got into with Ohio State. Keep fighting the man! After all, you are one who cooks.
