And if you can’t compete and attract increased enrollment..what good is it? All these costs come back to the students attending the university and it’s out of control. At least one gubernatorial candidate has mentioned school consolidation to control cost….anybody ready for the Akron Kent Zips

I not sure anyone is attacking football but you have to look at the numbers and football is the lions share. Looks like chart doesn’t include facilities cost to maintain the sport. Maybe no one cares about the other sports, but honestly, do you think anyone would care if UA didn’t have a football team.

Just curious…has it been done where you just drop it all together

I’m not sure how UA benefits as a whole by staying in the MAC just for football …maybe the pay games provide some money but hard to see it balances out salary, scholarships, stadium management, etc Won’t Gross have more NIL money at coc because they don’t have a football team..I thought that was kind of the argument the university is in financial straits…I’m not sure they have the luxury of continuing to fund a losing enterprise that in the best of times wouldn’t provide a meaningful benefit

If even part of the reason is the football program is hampering the success of bb and the other successful sports programs I have to ask..what does fb do for UA as whole? Even if they managed to when the MAC and went on to win a potato, tangerine, or fruitcake bowl, who would really notice and how would that add to the prestige of UA? There is no amount of success they could have in fb that is remotely as beneficial as tournament run.

My perception, limited as it is, is that UA has a little bit of a branding problem. My daughter was there during the Dambrot years and being from VA didn’t have the ability to go home everyday or the weekends. The place was pretty much dead on the weekends. If the local kids only see UA as a convenient way to get a degree vs a true college experience it’s unlikely they attend many games. If you didn’t go as a student it’s unlikely you bring your family back as an adult. With 20k student around at anytime and probably 100k alums around Akron it’s crazy the JAR isn’t mostly full every game….its only 4% of the potential fan base. I love Akron (much better than Charleston🤣) and my daughter loves UA. If we are within a couple hours on game day we go…unfortunately it’s not often enough.

Being in Richmond I saw what a tournament run did for bb attendance at VCU firsthand. Prior to that VCU was not that much different than Akron…mostly a commuter college. I think Akron came within minutes of turning bb attendance around in the UCLA game. Been a Zips fan since 2012 and I think the band has been playing the same songs in the same order for that long…maybe that’s the problem…everything on game night has become too stale! But what do I know

I winter in the Tampa area so getting to the game would be a breeze, but at $250-$700 for anything below the nosebleeds seems excessive. Think I’ll grab some steak and lobster and watch from my recliner. Does the school offer tickets?

That’s great….i have no doubt the team is cool with everyone’s beliefs. Personally I’m not a big fan of ‘performative religion’ and I’ll admit it turned me off a little. But they certainly have the right to wear whatever they want.

This team is hard to watch for me. I don’t know if it’s the new style of play where they seem to be playing faster than their abilities or the fact I don’t know who any of them are, but I have never been less excited about Zips basketball. I’m hoping my attitude changes
