  1. Why would they advertise the banquet to the general public? I've never been to a college football banquet that had anyone besides the coaches, parents, players and maybe the press. Do other schools open it to the public?
  2. Check out the Akron Football page for the awards from the banquet. Are they on your list of starters?
  3. A three year assistant named Stan Brock was named coach of Army yesterday.
  4. http://www.goarmysports.com/ViewArticle.db...610&SPSID=48157This article also says that we play Army on Sept. 1st.
  5. I heard that Kennedy had to have surgery on that shoulder. Anyone else hear that?
  6. This (by Jason Lloyd) was in our local newspaper. I thought our Penguin fans might enjoy it---or maybe not. "Poor Youngstown State. As if they weren't already Penguins being led to slaughter, now they're the first piece of fresh meat an angry, tormented and humiliated group of Buckeyes will see since the defamation in the desert. They'll be plucked apart from belly to beak."
  7. Study table is real. The guys clock in and are monitored. But there is that old saying, "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink." The coaches can't go to class with them. They've got to manage their own schooling and take advantage of the opportunities to get the help they need.Aren't all these scholarships non-replaceable?
  8. McClain was 4-6 in FGs and 9-11 in kicks. Sure it's not great but it's pretty good considering that it was a "part time" commitment. He goes to practice on a Tuesday and is in kicking that Saturday. And I think it was extremely big on the part of the soccer coach to allow this kid to play.
  9. Give me a break!! Our soccer team came through with a kicker when we needed it this year and really helped out the football team. I think both our coaches need all our support not senseless competition between them. Akron has enough formidable opponents without adding tension between our own programs!!!
  10. Hey folks, I still didn't get an answer as to when I should expect to see a next year's schedule. I love this site 'cause I can learn a lot from all you experts. (I'm trying not to grovel too much) My guess is that the MAC releases all the schedules at the same time but I really have no clue to that. I've always taken it for granted (from some of the posts I've read in the past) that the athletic director does the scheduling. Can anyone pleeease enlighten me as to the process. After all, I've got plans to make
  11. Thanks Zip_ME87! I feel much better now knowing that OSU plays YSU first. I wish our schedule were in place. When will it be??
  12. OSU is probably gonna be ready to take out their frustration of losing soooo badly on the next team they play. As of now--that's us.
  13. Hi, I'm just an old gal trying to figure out how many of the new recruits are linemen since it seems that we have so many leaving for various reasons. There's been so much talk about needing running backs. Maybe a line might be a little important too. Plus, I liked Walker when he was in for Kennedy and according to my son Kennedy was hurting a lot when he was out there. I hope to see him back to true form for next year!
  14. I was very happy to see an increase in the use of the fullback. I think it made a big difference in the running game and in giving Getsy time to throw the ball. We'd be winning big if we had all those penalty yards.PS. I heard there's a family special for the Toledo game but I can't find it on the Akron website. Anyone know where I can get info besides calling the school?
  15. I think you all forget about chemistry. Team chemistry is an important ingredient in any team sport. This team has not been able to find it. We may not have graduated that many players but apparently we lost our leaders and hopefully we've got some underclassmen who can fill the void 'cause this year's seniors are not getting it done.
  16. Great game for the Zips last night but they're going to have to keep getting better if they want to keep winning. At the beginning of the season they were so much more innovative in their play calling, half-back passes and even a pass to the quarterback. They need to continue that. Why are college teams so in love with the tailback? Kennedy is a great runner and athlete, but with 31 carries he's bound to fumble the ball. It seems to me we moved the ball well when we had a fullback in the game. Why do our fullbacks never carry the ball or get a pass out of the backfield? What happened to our tight end? I think he's a heck of a player and should be targeted more often. Maybe if the other teams didn't know what was coming they wouldn't be able to get to Getsy so often and he'd have more time to throw the ball without running for his life. As you can see I like the fancy stuff. The reverse worked great last night, except for the holding call. Let's play to win! Go Zips!!
