Why would Zips fans wish ill will on a former player? I dont see the negativity that you see.

I do not believe there is a person on the board who would like to see Jerome fail. We all want to see him succeed.

I am not sure we would be even having this discussion had Jerome not decided to air his displeasure with the Zips on Twitter.

Time and field position made that call REALLY stupid.  One of Milkweeds biggest problem is failure to keep drives going.  Homeruns are fun, but 1st downs win ball games!  I'm really happy with the win at WM, but we escaped with the win.  We could have sealed the deal with one second half score.

10 minutes were left on the clock. Not really a stupid call.

Just seems like we've always gotta complain about something. The first time i've heard the Mileee grumblings like this all year, and it comes after one of the best program wins in his tenure. I don't think he's perfect. I've tried telling everyone he called plays that first year everyone loves to talk about. I know first hand from a former GA and have provided articles with Bowden stating as such.

Anywho, like I said he definitely isn't perfect. I don't agree with throwing it on 3rd and 2. I don't like that we didn't score a single point in the 2nd half, but it was enough to win the game.

Lets take a look back at last year's OOC. We averaged 40 points a game with a healthy QB1 and Ball for 1.5 of those games. This includes a FCS team, Wisconsin, a 10 win/Sunbelt champ App State team, and setting the single game scoring record at Marshall, a record that I believe still stands, even with a Heisma winner-led Louisville going there the very next week.

He doesn't seem to do too bad with some actual talent to work with right? Everyone can admit we lack playmakers on the offensive side of the ball. QB1 play has never been a real issue, which is his duty. What do they say...jimmies and joes are more important than Xs and Os. Looking back at the bowl season. The defense obviously carried us. Our best playmakers were Hundley, a converted LB playing WR for the first time and???

Frankly the only time he has stuck out to me this year was the 3rd down call and the 2nd half vs WMU, but like I said, it was enough to win the game.

You raise several valid points. At the end of the day, the goal is winning and if I were a coach, I would hate to work somewhere I did not get to choose my staff.

I actually have had issues with other plays but calling a pass on 3rd and 2 is not a problem for me, offenses do it all of the time and it does keep the defense on its toes.

Man, I lost respect for your opinion when you clapped back with" is Uber driving" my day job. Best of luck to you.

Yeah man, nailed it! How'd you know? I love it, bring the trash my direction not at the young man. I think everyone here can agree with that. I won't stoop to your levels of taking shots at careers. Im happy with whom I am professionally and personally. Jealous much?

Not remotely, but thanks for playing.

Please go back through the rest of this thread where people even took screen shots of Jerome's family and posted it..  I'm done but I wanted to clarify the misinformation and wonder what the heck is wrong adults to kick a young man who is chasing his dreams.. all because he chose not to come back to a situation with so many question marks.. Wish everyone the best of luck here. No hard feelings, but I will gladly correct misinformation and stand up for family.

Misinformation? Were the screen shots wrong? Did we not see Jerome complain for not receiving more recognition? Should we be thrilled when players chose themselves over the team?

I wish nothing but the best for Jerome, but he is not blameless and neither of you are the martyrs you pretend to be.

I unlike this man continue to wish Jerome the best. I personally feel it's gross that anyone on here clearly has a desire to see a young man fail to achieve his NFL dreams. For the record and last time, I am not Jerome's agent! You just continue to look foolish everytime you post my name. I work on marketing and endorsement deals for Jerome to clarify your misinformation you continue to spread. Personally I have zero idea who you are, but I'm glad that I " Rub" you the wrong way. Continue to post your negativity about Jerome, you just look like a very bitter person.

How I'd like to see the situation play out.

8 or more wins = Bowden extension

6-7 wins = Bowden play out contract or offer 1 year extension and lets see how Zips do next year before locking him in long-term

    <6 = fired

    That seems reasonable.

I hope the Zips can win this, however I voted Toledo by 13 or less. I voted down the middle for passing yards and I feel like Coney will have a pretty good game.

This exactly reflects my sentiments. I think we can but I am not convinced. I agree about Coney. He has become a good consistent receiver.  I outlined how I think the Zips can win in the Toledo thread. I think this poses a good, but very difficult challenge to our very talented secondary.

Bend but not break makes me a little nervous against a quality, veteran QB.

WMU head coach did the Zips a huge favor by not locking down his team on Saturday night. Due it being homecoming weekend the players were free to do as they pleased on Saturday night. I would imagine quite a few might not have passed a breathalyzer in the early hours of Sunday morning.

If this is true, he is a bigger fool than I thought he was.

  10. Toledo shifts focus to resurgent Akron

"'It’s a hot football team right now that is playing really well,'” Candle said. “'They got a big win [Sunday], probably the biggest win in a conference game in the last two years. It’s a stiff challenge for our football team, and we have to be ready to go. They are playing good team football and they are playing hard, and they are seeing the benefits of that. They are relying on their senior leadership, starting with their quarterback [Thomas Woodson] and doing what their coaches are asking them to do.'”

Iv'e watched enough football in my life to know that no matter how awesome a team's offense looks, there is always a defense to make them look pedestrian. Let's hope that's what happens to Toledo's offense Saturday. No backup, I want to beat Woodside. I want to see him go against our secondary. Talent vs talent. I'm sure the Zips secondary is pumped to face him.

I do not disagree. It's a lot to ask the D to shoulder the load 2 weeks in a row against a WMU and Toledo. I really would love to see the Zips offense have a breakthrough week for both the D and Woody.

  12. I think our defense can keep us competitive, it's our offensive side of the ball that worries me. However, here is how I think we could win:

    • The basics - minimize penalties, no more than 1 turn-over, and special teams - do not allow any big returns. The have blocked one more kick than us and also a punt this year.
    • Field position - we were killed by the poor field position in the 2nd half last week. We need to be able to flip the field, more frequently.
    • Pressure on the QB - we have not really done a ton of LB blitzes - we might need to do more. We won't shut Woodside down, but we can limit his success. Toledo's rushing offense is ranked #36 in FBS, however, they are not a top 50 red zone offense team. We will also have to stop the run. We proved we can do that against WMU, but the WMU passing threat was not nearly as great. Toledo boasts a 28th ranked passing offense and Woodside is solid.
    • Secondary - don't give up big plays. I think interceptions will be harder to come by, but we need our secondary to play their best. I think they might be up to the task. We have a slight edge on defensive touchdowns, statistically.
    • Offensively - we need a our WRs to step up their game. We have to move the ball, better and a lot of that. We need to be successful with our run game to help the pass game. I think we can run the ball on them as well as we ran the ball on WMU in the first half. Tommy's passes were a lot better last week, but he did not throw a lot in the second half. we had too many drops. We have to make catches to win games. Coney has proven to be consistent. I am guessing that every D is focusing on Wolfe. We really need Bickley, Chapman, Smith, and Young to step it up. Booker is starting to present some nice opportunities for us. At his size, it would be nice to see him evolve into our 3rd/4th and 1 back like Cody Grice.
    • Third Downs - we have the edge offensively and they have the edge defensively. On offensive, we are ranked #36 and they are ranked #50, On D they are #26 and we are #34. The match-ups are pretty good.
    • Trickery - I think we can pull off one good trick play to help the cause and keep the defense honest. We have lined Tommy up in the wildcat as a receiver and I cannot recall him dropping a pass - will we see a Morgan to Woodson connection in the red zone this week?

The biggest concern I have with the short week is that last weekend was distracting for them with an emotional win and the crazy weather/reschedule. It sounds like they got home between 10-11:00 PM on Sunday night and had Monday off with voluntary video review on Monday. If we stay focused and disciplined, this is going to be a competitive game, giving us a shot to go 4-0 in the MAC.

I have heard both Bowden and Woodson talking about the team being hungry after last season. I really hope we se that hunger on Saturday.

Woodson needs to play his best game yet as a Zip

We need a Chapman, Wolfe, or other offensive player to step up. My money is on Chapman.

It would be great for Woody to have a career day, but it is no good if the receivers don't step up.

I’ve been tempted to post that “don’t look now, but Cykron will be posting again soon”. When I saw Kyle was playing.  I waited too long!  Plus, don’t want to jinx us, but Kyle scares me as an opponent.  Saw him play HS ball long enough to know I wished he was a Zip!  I even thought youu might come back to your newfound friends for the game.....!

It appears that both of the 1st two QBs at Buffalo are worthy opponents.
