I'm just hoping that WMU is physically exhausted after playing a 7OT game. That's seven drives on offense and seven drives on defense. That's like playing an extra half of a football game.
And people are atill talking about it...
This is a game we can win, just not aure if we will win it.

IMO this game will come down to the effectiveness of the Zips limiting a Broncos running game that is averaging 237 yards per game. I'm hoping that the continual progression of Zips passing game makes for some big rushing plays. If you feel good about the Zips this week, you can get 5:1 odds.
Scattered thunderstorms and winds 5-10 MPH ??
I agree. It's time to see how much improved the Zips defense is against our own conference.

Ok dude, I’m old, what the hell is tBotD cause none of that made since LOL
The benefit of the doubt.
Players and their families almost always seem to think they are better than those getting more playing time and also tend to have different injury assessments than staff.
I have also advocated for Williams and Stewart to get more looks instead of Young and Gladney, as well but also recognize that ut takes more than talent to be ready to be a regular to run D1 routes, including factors like stength, to hold onto the ball and not get stripped, knowledge of the offense, discipline, including footwork, route running, and the ability to read D1 defensive players. I would imagine their reps will increase as we continue in MAC play. Coney is probably a good example of this type of progression.

Unfortunately I’m not......Someone In this panel answer me why is it Chapman can leap frog so many people in that position group.....you can’t tell me he is more talented than the younger kids in the group.. it’s clear as day what’s going on he’s a senior and they are trying help him get to the next level as a WR and because the young kids have 3 years of eligibility they can sit and wait and if that’s what it is they need to be up front from the beginning with the kids
Chapman is very athletic, he is elusive after the catch, knows the offense, knows Woodson, his father was a WR coach, and he has demonstrated a true team mentality and maturity. Oh, and he has caught the ball. I can't imagine why they would want to play him.
I recommend that you stop embarrassing Nate.

I would be interested to see what happen if the offense went "hurry up" a series or two where Thomas called the plays.
PS This idea would have been way better with MTB in the mix, so he could change personnel without substituting, depending on the defensive personnel
I have had the same thought and you could probably run this if you lined Chapman up in the backfield, too.

It amazes me how many people swears by Woodson, it’s because of this why he can’t get this done or that done, I can’t wait till day he moves on like I really have a rooting interest for the team because I have relative playing for them on offense and we speak constantly and I’ll leave it at ??♂️
You make it sound far more subjective than it actually is. Woodson is rhe #2 all time passing TD leader for the Zips, even with missing a lot of last season. He is an excellent pocket passer and I have heard players say that Woodson's football IQ is extremely high, something Bowden has stated over the last week.
Kato has some talent but not the maturity or decision-making ti be a starter. I think Ramart is nore likely the QB of the future, however.

P.S. Iowa State actually got more votes than TAM (even after playing well against Alabama) in this week's AP poll.
No offense, but we have Iowa State thread....

That's funny.

Assuming we play clean ball, with limited penalties and turnovers, this game will boil down to our ability to pass successfully and to limit Franklin. I think we may struggle early but have a handle on containing the run before halftime. Franklin is good, but he is no Kareem Hunt.
I think it will ve very tough for WMU to come out emotionally charged after the 7OT win so we need to capitalize early.
I am cautiously optimistic because of:
1. Improvement of our run game and blocking.
2. The way the OL handled Ball State.
3. Improved defensive with much better tackling. We still need more preasure in the QB. Our D plays better every week and we have had guys step up when injuries have happeend.
5. Last year I said we were 1 year away from having the depth to withstamd injuries that better programs survive and that appears to be the case. Guys have stepped up in both sides of the ball.
6. As controversial as this will be, I believe our play calling is much improved this year and one of the reasons we have been successful on 3rd down.
7. Punting is better. Kick offs are still a disaster and our coverage scares me.
8. We play well on the road.
This is the week we need our WR to put on their big boy pants and Woody needs to be able to connect for us to win.

CBSSN does a great job with their broadcasts too
Agreed. It feels like a real broadcast. Fios has it in their sports package for those outside of Ohio.

EMU and Buffalo are the 2 sleepers that are better than people give them credit.
At last, something we agree on.

Multiple times this week, coach Bowden expressed that he wanted more explosive plays. I’m sure Woodson was following a game plan. Hard to argue the results.
20 hours ago, Hilltopper said:On a couple of those deep throws for incompletions we had wide open tight ends cutting across the middle of the field. Woodson needs to quit trying to hit a homerun so often.
I liked that we used ut as an opportunity to continue to look for the deep threat. I don't know that we are there yet and hope they practice it all week long. I exoect us to have a lot if success with 10-15 yard oasses against WMU, which will force them to leave less cushion and for us to be able to break a coupke of deep balls. We have to be able to connect on explosive plays against tougher opponents.
Also, not sure how well Booker can catch, but we should not throw to Junk. Williams has been pretty sure handed, but he was out for this game.

They should at least let Kato finish any drive that he starts
Do not agree. He was in a hole when they put Tommy in and it would have been a bad spot for a turnover.
I actually like the limited reps, in meaningful spots in the games, that he gas been getting, but you do more harm to leave him when there is a higher liklihood of failure.

"...Buffalo had almost no reason to run the ball. Between a wide-open passing game and a tough Bronco defensive line, passing was a much more attractive option...."
It could be an interesting game. Tommy looks better every week and the receivers improve a littme each week.

And secondly....no meaningful penalties. a 5 yarder for offsides on #75 that didn't hurt as the Zips scored a few plays later, and a block in the back on an interception return. I mean, doesn't that impress anyone else on this board??
Yes and no. Yes, they played a clean game in terms of penalties and no turnovers. I say no, because I thought the 2 heavily penalized games were absolutely ridiculous and had more to do with the way the games were officiated than it did the Zips, truthfully, especially the Troy game. The game became about the refs and not the players.
But your point is fair. We played a clean, disciplined game.

It was quite frustrating to watch our offense fail to extend the lead during the entire middle part of that game. Ball State could have easily gotten back in the game at any time. That goal line stand was HUGE.
Other than that, I like what I saw today, but that was admittedly a fairly weak team we were playing. Lets hope this game was at least the "practice" we needed for much tougher games down the road. It's nice to have 3 wins in early October.
I defenitely felt like we were using the game to work on some things and gets reps to back-ups.
A few thoughts:
1. Sands is going to be a strong back. Probably the best if the three, he just needs more reps.
2. Our defense has shown improvement. Lako, Reinke, K Brown, Featherstone, and Davis are really stepping up. Dailey, Gilbert, Bell, and Boxen are playing well and offenses seem to avoid them.
3. Ball actually had a very highly rated defensive line. We didn't do a bad job stopping their rush.
4. Why no Nate Stewart or Dre Williams? Coney and Wolf are playing consistently well, Chapman was quiet today. Young and Gladney still have not proven themselves and Smith seems like he is still somewhat of a gamble.
5. The announcers and Bowden both mentioned the wind affecting kicks and the passing game.

It took 7 OTs for WMU to finally put Buffalo away 71-68.
Three things we can learn from this game:
1. WMU isn't quite as good as peo4pke thought.
2. Buffalo isn't quite as bad as peole thought.
3. There is tremendous parity in the MAC.
-
Nice win, especially with a back-up QB.

WMU 71 Buffalo 68 in OT
That must have beem an exhausting game to eatch.
