gozips88....you are correct.Florida has a tradition of welcoming the busses of visiting teams for football games. They stand out there and do that "gator chomp" and chant "Gator Bait...Gator Bait".I know some ex-Akron football players who said that they were welcomed the same way.I'd love to see us start that tradition here.I want to see Bubba lose his cool tomorrow. It will bring back old memories.

This should actually be somewhat of an advantage for us. This probably means that very few students from Athens will make the trip. And after their loss on Saturday, I think their enthusiasm for this game may have dampened a bit.
-
Kinda hard to get Player of the Year consideration when you are going to finish near last. Besides, there's some great players in the MAC, on some great teams. But, I love watching Niki play. She's a great talent, and I'm glad we have her here in Akron.
-
Wow. It looks like some of you guys got your first taste of Toledo. I should have warned you. Not only is it a crappy city, but their basketball arena is quite a hole, as you found out.
-
We must have caught WMU on a bad night? We need to run up the score on OU Tuesday night.
-
I'm seeing some interesting thoughts here. We, along with Can't, will be about the only schools that will be able to bring large crowds to Cleveland. It won't be a home game for either school, but close. Us vs. Can't in the semis is starting to look like a real possibility. If so, I think that we're much better than Toledo on a neutral court in the championship game.Alot can happen in the next couple of weeks, but I think we solidify a #2/3 seed, and have a chance at a #1 if we beat either Can't or Miami on the road. If we can win them both, we may just get the #1.
-
I think it was difficult for either Travis or Wood to play aggressively in the 2nd half with their foul trouble. Especially after Rome got that cheap charging call for his 4th foul.
-
I really don't think OU will be motivated at all. They now have no chance of getting the #1 seed in the MAC Tournament with their 4 losses, and really have nothing left to play for in the regular season other than a shot at a mid-range seed. Akron will be ready to play after a pretty good showing tonight at a very tough place to play.......and will really deal out some punishment on the Bubba-Cats. After the way they played today, I'm sure OU sees their chances of avoiding a 5th loss to be pretty remote at this point. You really have to be on top of your game to beat Akron at home. Just ask Nevada. And OU is just not playing at that kind of level right now.

Come on you guys. We've known all along that the only thing that matters is how we play in Cleveland next month. All of these games are doing nothing more than preparing us for that. This is what we know so far......after playing every team in the MAC.After losing to Toledo tonight on the road by only 3 points, we know that on a neutral court, we should be able to beat anyone in the MAC.Now....we need to just go get it done.Dambrot said in his pre-game interview that most of his decisions now are "thinking long term", meaning the MAC tournament. And with more tough road games coming up, against some competitive teams, we should be well prepared.
-
No doubt. When Bubba isn't making shots, he becomes a cancer to the entire team.OU can be as hungry as they want come Tuesday night. But with 4 losses already, they pretty much eliminated any chance at the #1 seed in the MAC with today's loss.
-
Ha Ha !!! I think that's the last we'll see of OU fans talking trash on OUR message board. Heck, they might even abandon their own message board after this one.
-
We'd never play a home game at Fawcett Stadium. That place is barely half the size of the rubber bowl, and not in too much better shape. The Browns Stadium idea is to put the game in a marquee location. But honestly, I don't support it either. Less Akron fans will attend than usual (which isn't saying much), and the days of a military academy being a fan draw was over with decades ago.If we play Army, it needs to be at the Rubber Bowl.
-
People only choose to go to Athens ONE DAY a year. The other 364 days?...nobody with any kind of sense chooses to go there. I think that sums it up.
-
Oh...one more thing.....If anyone is in a MUST WIN situation here.....it's OU.If we lose, we have 2 losses. If OU loses, they have 4 losses, and are completely out of the running for the #1 seed.
-
I have a couple of thoughts here since I've been reading some of this....First of all, I am not a student throwing out "smack". I'm an old guy who went to school many many years ago, but still follows the program, and goes to most every game.1) We're a better team than OU this year. That's obvious. Anyone that ranks teams across the nation would say that right now. But if they can pull a miracle, beat us at home, in front of a sellout crowd, and they can win all the rest of their games, then they would deserve the MAC title. But, I think anyone, no matter what side you are on, knows that Akron is the better team this year.2) I'm really concerned about people's psychological state when they have this argument that "Why does Akron think Dials is better than Bubba when Bubba scores more points"?? COME ON OU FANS !!! Dials beat him out for the starting job in Akron last year. And for good reason. Dials is better than Bubba in nearly every phase of the game. And if Dials was not on such a balanced team, he'd score many more points anyway.

uakronkid....the "no shows" in the lower reserved sections has been a problem since JAR opened in the early 80's, when I was a student. SOMEONE needs to FINALLY come up with some kind of solution to figure out how we can increase our team support by filling those seats, but not alienate our big-dollar donors. Now that we're growing again as a program, the solution is hopefully close at hand. First step....fill a couple of lower sections with students, hopefully behind the visiting bench.

This game at Toledo is for the #2 seed, and the road game at Can't should decide the #1 seed. Does everyone else pretty much see it the same way?
-
Nice job. I don't think we've recruited this level of talent since we were an Independent under Gerry Faust.
-
Yes, Romeo should do that every night.Wood gets better every night. Remember, he's probably just getting into basketball shape again. And heck, with a name like that, if he doesn't make it in basketball, he surely has a future career in "adult entertainment".I've been telling people all season long.....when Dials scores in double digits, we are very, very hard to beat. When he scores like that, it's a huge bonus for us, and takes the pressure off of several other players, offensively. We'll pay for that foul shooting trouble eventually. They should have let that poor kid shoot from a little closer at halftime. I kept yelling for him to shoot from the end of the Kangaroo's nose. Nobody heard me. And, when did the AK-Rowdies start a junior division? Not a good showing at the end of the game against the press. And Toledo WILL press. This will be a tough stretch. Road game against Toledo with only 2 days off, and then the OU game on only 2 days off. Go Zips !!
-
sgm....that's a great idea !! I like that.Just to give all of you a "heads up". I went to buy 4 tickets today for the OU game in one of the upper reserved sections where me and my fellow alums usually sit. The section had only EIGHT seats available in the entire section. And that is nearly a week before the game.So...there is going to be a big crowd. Now.....let me take the honors of starting the chants a week early.......Bubba Sucks !! Bubba Sucks !! Bubba Sucks !!I can't wait until Tuesday.

Ya, we didn't end up with too many games on our schedule this year that would "help" us, but the Duquesne game is turning out to be one of them. I'm still going to stick to my original theory and say that we still have a very, very slim chance of an at-large. Overall schedule strength will make us lose out to some mid-level power conference team when it really comes down to selection time.
-
Sure, we want to make sure we win the East. But is there really a difference between a 2 seed and a 3 ? They play each other in the semi-finals anyway.I think you really have to shoot for that #1, so that you can play a #4 in the semis. So, I'm hoping for another Toledo loss to still give us the best chance at a #1 seed.
-
That's the question. If Goddard quits, where would he go? He's not going to get many minutes at any MAC-level school.
-
I consider OU to be out of the picture. They already have 3 losses, and have to play us at home. Can't, on the other hand....I'd really like for them to slip two games behind us so that the game at Can't in March doesn't matter.
-
Wow. I just tried, and I am getting redirected also.
