  1. Actually, I don't think any of us think Milum is a great overall player. He still has alot of work to do to reach that plateau. Lockett looks to be a pretty good ball player already. However, I'm sure he can't high jump 6'-10". Probably isn't any basketball player in the country who can, besides Quade.
  2. PeayNation...thanks for coming back to the board. We're all basketball fans here, and we appreciate your thoughts.I don't think it was you, but I have a comment to make to one of your fellow Peay fans who said something like, "Akron has nobody that can jump like Lockett". And we told him about Akron's Quade Milum, who can HIGH JUMP 6'-10".Well......I hope he got a good look at Quade in action on those Alley-Oop dunks today.
  3. Yes, we need to win this one to guarantee that first round bye. But, I'd still like to get that #1 seed, even though that will probably take a road win at both Miami and Can't to have a chance at that, which is a pretty tall task.Actually, I think that we're far better than any team in the MAC right now on a neurtral court (aka Quicken Loan Arena), except maybe Can't. And Can't can get alot of people there, just like us, so that's a team I'd rather not play until the championship. So anyway....I'm just hoping we get seeded so that we don't play Can't until the championship. We should be able to easily beat everyone else in the league in the earlier rounds on a neutral floor.
  4. My thoughts....The most ridiculous call by the officials? How about the play where Cedrick Middleton is standing just inside the foul line, for about 2-3 seconds, anticipating an out-of-control Peay player coming his way, NEVER MOVES, and is called for a BLOCK. I've never seen the crowd in JAR arena, in 25 years of watching Zips basketball, BOO in unison, as the referees left the floor......and it was only HALFTIME. Romeo and Woods got fouled just about every time they tried to score in the post, and few of them were called. Yet, they still had great games, especially on the boards. We were much too strong for them inside, which is why they were forced to switch to a zone. Rybak looks lost out there, every time he steps on the floor. As I've stated quite often, when Dials contributes scoring, we're hard to beat. And I love the way he and Cedrick contributed to the rebounding totals. Let me give credit to Peay. I said in a previous post that I would congratulate them on a good game if they could keep the margin under 20 points, and they did. Sure, the refs may have made it closer than it should have been, but they are a decent team.
  5. I think the stats you are getting from the MAC site are for MAC games only.
  6. timmyboy...you're right. This was a very experienced unit that may have under-achieved last year.
  7. That's my thinking as well. It's not Can't or Ohio. This will be a 3,000-4,000 crowd, at best. It's also an odd time.
  8. skhorbotly....you are right on the money. The OVC has nobody with a chance to get into the tournament if they do not win their conference.
  9. I HATED that yellow. We called it alot of things. Bright Yellow, Canary Yellow, Pee (or should I say Peay) Yellow. Whatever way you look at it, it was awful.
  10. PeayNation....I hope ZipTrumpeter cleared that up. Quade Millum is not 6'-10". He has HIGH JUMPED 6'-10".If you have someone that can outjump him, I want to see it.PeayYman....we were given a home bracket buster game this year, in exchange for playing a road bracket buster game last year. But you're right, the home game we got against Nevada this year was, I believe, part of that arrangement as well. I don't mean any disrespect to you guys. Heck, there is nothing wrong with being a good OVC team. We were in that league at one time back when I was a student, and I look forward to playing an OVC team again. But, right now, there's just very few teams in the country that could beat us at home. And we've slaughtered plenty of good teams in our own league at home already this year. So, I am being serious when I say that I think you guys can say that you played a good game if you keep the margin under 20 points. BleacherBum......I should have caught that one when I wrote it. It does look funny now that I look back at it.
  11. Oh..forgot to make my prediction. If this game was on the road, it would be closer. But I'll be surprised if Peay can keep the final score under a 20 point margin. That's my problem with us getting this game scheduled as a bracket buster. This is what we went to Nevada for last year?? To get a home game this year that really doesn't help us??
  12. Peay Nation.......I would retract this statement........"the Zips have no one who can outjump Lockett."One of Akron's forwards, Quade Milum, was a 6'-10" high jumper in high school. I'm looking forward to seeing Peay in the JAR again. I don't think you guys have played here since our OVC days, when I was still a student in the 80's. Welcome back to Akron.
  13. Bubba bashing was so much fun !! I'm going to miss it.
  14. I don't believe anyone considered us to be "on the bubble" last year either.Let me try to clear this up a bit....Everyone keeps focusing on the idea that we can't get an At-Large because of our conference history of not getting a 2nd team into the dance. This could very well be the case in the minds of people that are on these tournament selection committees. So, until the MAC gets to the point where it ranks higher as a conference, we can only do three things that will increase our chances.......1) Schedule stronger non-conference opponents to increase SOS.2) Post a win or two against teams that might be "At-Large Caliber" teams. 3) Don't have "bad losses" against non-conference teams that will not receive tournament consideration. Don't consider this as being negative, because I am a huge Zips fan. But we accomplished none of the above. When we get compared to a team like Drexel (as Ozone suggests), who had wins over teams like Syracuse and Villanova, we don't stand a chance. They will be a bubble team. But I still think that the tendency of the selection committee is to bypass a team like Drexel, and take a 17-13 team from a power conference that has a higher SOS.I hope I'm wrong, but this is why I think we have no chance in hell of getting an At-Large, no matter how many more games we win from here on out.
  15. I'm not talking about who we should, or should not lose to......I'm just simply stating that Miami losing their 4th game helps our situation, because we would still win the MAC East if we win our season finale at Can't, even if we should lose to Miami in Oxford next week.
  16. This DOES improve our situation. Because now that Miami has 4 losses, if we lose to them next week, we still win the MAC East with a road win at Can't.
  17. The NCAA selection committee, for as long as I can remember, will favor the major conference teams, with high schedule strength, and a 17-13 record, over a team in a conference like the MAC. Even if they do have a 25+ wins. Even if they would choose to diregard our weak schedule strength, and actually seriously take a look at us, they'll see our losses to Arkansas Little Rock, and UIC. With that said, no chance.
  18. I'll say it again.....If I were on the losing end of a 31-point blowout, after I talked for weeks about how I was going to win.......I'd be nowhere near the other school's message board the next day.
  19. I agree. Kudos to the Akron students for coming out. The harrassment of Bubba Walther was worth the price of admission alone. And the game wasn't too bad either. Go Zips!!
  20. I'm definitely rooting for Miami.Mostly because I think our chances of beating Miami on the road are better than beating Can't on the road in the season finale.
  21. Oh Man. Right after I complimented an OU fan last night for showing some class on here, we get more OU fans finding acting stupid again.1) Folks, you were blown out of the arena. I'd be hiding if I were you.2) Stop the gloating about stealing Bubba from us. Do you now understand what we knew all along about him? He's selfish, and will cost you more wins down the road. Get used to it. 3) We've beaten plenty of teams on the road this year.4) You're cutting on us for losing to Toledo on the road by 3 ?? They are one of the best teams in the league !!5) You guys still beat us at your place? That was 2 MONTHS AGO !! And anyone can beat anyone on any given night. Go back to your own message board already. Who knows how far we will go this year. None of us knows that right now. But ANYONE that knows ANYTHING about basketball would tell you that Akron has now developed into a far superior team than OU during the course of this season.
  22. Thanks to the OU fan for showing some class. I predicted on a previous post that Akron would take this game seriously, unlike how we approached the earlier game in Athens.Bubba showed why he got benched in Akron last year. 1) Phanton Defense2) Stupid Turnovers (which increase when he is not scoring)3) Sulking up and down the court like a baby (which, once again, increase when his teamates do not allow him to shoot as much as he thinks he should).
  23. unZIPped....that's hilarious. Bubba getting stuck in Akron for an extra night would be the ultimate justice.Bubba can shoot in our arena, which is a big plus for him. But I anticipate Akron being fired up to play defense tonight, just like the WMU game.I'm going with Akron 76-61
  24. Sure, these things are inaccurate.I'm wondering how many MAC schools have the same problem as us over the last few years. Get a letter of intent from a major recruit, and he never makes it there. There has to be other MAC schools who take chances on guys, and end up in the same boat as us. I know our recruiting has been great the last few years, and I'm just ready to see it start to pay dividends on the field.
