I know Balki. 25,000 would be sufficient.

I agree. I don't think next year will be that bad, but the year after will be difficult unless the next two freshman classes are great. But keep in mind....Romeo and Dru are the leaders of this team. They are the guys we turn to when the game is on the line. And we lose BOTH of them next year. I'm not concerned about having good players next year, but I am concerned about us having leaders. I hope some guys start to step into that role before the end of this season.I'm especially afraid of that point guard position. We all saw what can happen in the Buffalo game when Dru is off the court for extended periods of time. It was probably the worst game we played this year at home.

Roomate...Blue and Gold...you are exactly right. How can anyone think Lee got a raw deal? He had a job for 8 years as a D-1 coach, despite moving the program nowhere. If I were him, I would consider myself fortunate. And I do wish him the best of luck. I've never heard a bad thing about him as a person. -
From a marketing standpoint, "Fear The Roo" is supposed to be depicting the Kangaroo in a different light, unlike the cartoon character image that it usually possesses. So, your point is correct. They have totally misunderstood the concept. And they've been playing it that way since the beginning of football season, and haven't changed it.If you want to depict Zippy as a cartoon character, fine. But don't associate it with "Fear The Roo".

I concur. Winning every game, and losing in the conference championship probably puts us on the bubble. But then, we lose out to some team that is 17-13 from the Big East or ACC. That's how it would play out. The selection committee looks at the MAC that way.So, in other words, you don't have to win, you just have to play good teams. They've been making selections based on that for years.

Yes, at the end of the Coleman Crawford era, there were some pretty small crowds in the place. You guys think the lower reserved section has no-shows now? You should have seen it during a few of those years.

RowdyZip....Bleacher Bum....I'll hope you guys didn't get tickets. I've never been able to make that trip any faster than 3 hours, even without stopping. And I applaud you guys to making the trip to a road game. I wish more people would do that.Which reminds me....Are you guys forming a group to go to the Toledo game? We'll need the support that night.

bobbyake. Yes, fans would drift towards Akron if Akron was ever in a better position on the national stage as Ohio State. Did you read my post after the national championship game about the news story stating that there were thousands of people at OSU to send the players off to the national championship game, but only TWO people standing there to welcome them back? The Suckeyes have the fan base that they do because they have a chance to win national championships. -

I say the same thing....congratulations. I don't make a point to bash the guy personally. Really, the biggest problem I have with the Lee Owens era was that my alma mater let him stay as long as they did when it was clear the program wasn't making progress. -
Ya, Baker has been talked about alot as a great player. I shudder when I see that two defensive linemen are on that list too.
-
Stewart look like an animal !! I'd run the other way if I saw him comin.

If I had to guess, I think JD's starting to like Poindexter over Kasparek.
-
You know. It is just one game. And I hope the Zips see it that way too and continue to come out hungry every night.

RowdyZip...I want to know how you drive to Ypsilanti Michigan in 2.5 hours.

I'm surprised that the news photographer didn't suggest that taking a picture of a UA student, at a UA engineering contest might not look right in the newpaper if they are wearing a Suckeyes shirt....and give him the option to change his apparel. Also....people usually know in advance that they might have a press opportunity at an event, and should dress appropriately to represent the school. Or, as some suggested, at least wear some type of business attire. -
A couple more facts.....Basketball:1) I believe the chant went, "The fly is open.....let's go Peay".2) I think Peay was the team we beat in 1986 to clinch the #1 seed in the OVC tournament, which we won the next week by defeating Middle Tennessee in the final. Football:The wide receiver's name was Willie Davis. He was Vernon Stewart's main target. This game will do one thing...it will bring back alot of old OVC memories.
-
Folks, the problem with this matchup is simple...Austin Peay won't draw a big crowd, and beating them won't help our ranking.
-
I like some of these points. And come to think of it, I think we should want Toledo to lose. Why? Because the difference between being a #1 seed and a #2/#3 seed could be big. If we end up #1, we play the #4 in the semi finals. That could be just the advantage we need this year to get to that championship game.
-
Ya guys, this is really interesting. If Ohio can beat Toledo, we have a better shot at the #1 seed. But if Toledo beats Ohio, it decreases our chances at the #1, but improves our position for the #2 seed.I think I like our odds if Ohio wins against Toledo since, as some of you have said, we should be able to give Ohio another loss on our own since we play them at home in a couple of weeks.
-
Just be patient guys...as I said in an earlier post on this thread. The sportswriters won't jump on a MAC team until they see fellow colleagues moving in that direction. We were not going to jump significantly in just one week. It's going to take a few more weeks, and more wins to get near that #25 mark.
-
Wow Rowdy. That's bold. But I hope you are right.Remember folks, these are sportswriters....many of which do not pay much attention to what is going on in the MAC. For a siginificantly larger number of them to jump on our bandwagon in a one-week period is pretty wishful thinking.But...I do think it can happen if we keep winning.
-
Since we have a home game, I am hoping that we get a really good team.First of all, we have a chance to beat anyone at home. Secondly, a win over a highly-ranked team is really our only prayer to get an at-large bid at this point.
-
1) The Rowdies did their best today to get themselves, and the rest of the crowd into the game. This game was not an easy game to get into. Unlike the game against Can't. You did the best with what you had.2) Giving students ONE section behind the visiting teams bench would be great. 3) I know the University needs to raise money. And they know that the corporate folks and the older supporters will not pay big money for anything other than the lower seats. BUT, they need to start taking a closer look at how many of them actually attend most games, and consider mixing the crown a little bit more. We can't do a great job supporting our team when all the noise comes from the two small rowdies sections, and the upstairs general admission. EVEN DURING THE Can't GAME...the lower reserved section only stood twice: at the start of the game, and after that nice 2nd half run that gave us the lead. 4) Empty courtside seats really makes us look BAD on TV.5) I already predicted that this game, and the bracket buster will not fill the JAR. I wish I had been wrong.6) The OU game MAY get close to a sellout. I personally know of a few people that are marking the game on their calendar just to harrass Bubba.

I read the Beacon Journal article about Bryan Williams today. Heck, it seems we have to find a way to use a guy that can run the football, and has track speed. How many times does Akron get a guy that was a First Team All-Ohio selection. Does anyone know if he still has possible eligibility problems? This might be why others might not have picked him up. I see he originally went to Pitt. I'm assuming he was another one of those Akron HS stars that all of you refer to when you talk about the group that chose Pitt over Akron during the ill-fated Owens era. Can anyone share anything else about this guy?

ZipsAlumn....That's not off base at all.A student would not have the know-how and creative expertise that high-level marketing people have. BUT, being students, they would have a good indepth knowledge of their target market (other students), and that is half the battle. You're suggestion that we can't do any worse is a very valid point.
