  1. L-O-L-A LolaThe answer to OU's problems is easy: they are extremely young. Never expected to be very good this year, though they started out strong.
  2. Coach Dambrot -- is it true that your assistant Rick McFadden threatened to have a Zips player injure Ohio freshman Stephen Coleman when OU plays in the JAR this year? Apparently this was the exchange that caused the post game altercation in Athens on Tuesday.
  3. Surprised there hasn't been any mention on the board about the altercation that took place during the post game handshakes at OU on Tuesday. With about 2 seconds remaining in the game, Ohio freshman Stephen Coleman stole the ball from Hitchens and went in for a dunk. The dunk didn't count -- time ran out just as he started to jump. During the handshakes, Akron assistant Rick McFadden told Coleman and an Ohio assistant that Akron was going to "take out" Coleman when the teams play in the JAR.Do you condone that sort of behavior from an assistant coach?
  4. I dont know if we have tickets but i would just go down there. No worries on selling out, a decent amount of students might show up for them but with the Suckeyes/Michigan game i doubt any alumni or others will be making the trip to athens from the surrounding areas. You will for sure get a good seat and probably a cheap ticket.I doubt there will be many students there at all, even if it wasn't OSU/Mich weekend. A close friend of mine goes to school there and he just came back home this week because OU just finished its Fall Quarter (exams were last week) and they are off until early Januaray, meaning that the vast majority of students have probably already left for break.OU's fall quarter ends this week, so there will be a very small crowd. Stand near the main ticket office until someone comes up to you and offers either free or discounted tickets. Guarantee you will get a deal. The I-71 route is 30 to 45 minutes longer than the Marietta route. I went to OU and have tested both over many years. Plus the Marietta Route is all highway for all but about 10 miles now.
  5. Do NOT take the route advised above, via I-70. Take the following route and I guarantee you will be there in 2 hours 50 minutes:I-77 South to the "Lower Salem" (Rt 821) exit.Turn right.Follow 821 to dead end at Rt. 60.Turn left.Take Rt. 60 into Marietta (a couple of miles) until you get to the Rt. 7/Washington Street intersection.Turn right.Follow Rt. 7 West about 20 miles until it merges with Rt. 50 West.Take Rt. 50 West all the way to Athens.Your drive time will be 1 hour, 50 minutes to Marietta, then 1 hour from Marietta to Athens. This is BY FAR the best and fastest route.Athens is a gorgeous college town. Enjoy it. I strongly recommend the Steakburger and Fries at "The Pub" on Court Street. Is is located toward the end of the college bar strip, near the corner of Court and State streets. Get a frosty aquarium full of beer for $4.
  6. Does Akron have a strength and conditioning coach? While injuries aren't unusual during camp, a decent strength and conditioning program can help limit them.
  7. Heard Will Flemming was hurt in an auto accident. Hit by a drunk driver.
  8. Meet the Team is next Sunday. Check gozips for details.12 year old girls are not invited to meet the team.
  9. You're just a friggin liar:OU isn't $11 million in the hole -- they are just planning for the contingency of a large budge deficit (as Akron is as well) if Gov. Strickland cuts the higher education subsidy, which he has indicated he might have to do given the state's financial condition.OU cut four sports not because the football team went over budget, but because the school had more sports than most other schools, but a flat athletic budget. Therefore, they did what any large organization should do -- focus there resources where they can earn higher returns. We have several sports Akron doesn't have, and vice versa.OU is not open admissions by any stretch of the imagination. It has selective admissions. The president did decide to increase the overall undergraduate student population by up to 1,000 over a 4-year period. Not a huge issue in terms of student quality when you receive 13,000 applications for admission.I respect Akron -- it has many good programs. But don't lie about other schools to make yourself feel better.
  10. OK, and Akron has the smallest number of full-time faculty members teaching courses in the state, which means you get an untrained instructor as an undergrad -- Akron Beacon JournalOh, and chances are your son or daughter might get assigned to room with a convicted felon! -- Also ABJ.That's all anyone needs to know about UofA.
  11. Speak for yourself.jupitertoo is a K.e.n.t. fan who has trolled this board and the MACbbs for years with little more to offer than third grade rants about Akron being "Hilltop High."Click Me to Read the Same Akron-hating Post jupitertoo has cut-n-patsted for 8 Yearsjupitertoo is a K.e.n.t.-loving dickwad. Not a congenial OU fan. Fact: Jupitertoo is a tenured professor at Akron, and a graduate of OU. No connection whatsoever to Can't.
  12. Impressive performance for the Zips. Bobcats are showing nothing (especially no depth). Now let's respect one another and focus on March.
  13. Gee, I think it was just this week that the local newspaper reported that Akron U. had more parttime, non-tenured, non-accredited faculty than any other university in the state. Is this suddenly not true? So as an underclassman, the chances of being taught by someone who doesn't even have a master's degree, nor is a full-time instructor at any school (high school or college) is 80% or higher. Sure makes the university's budgetary issues a lot better, enabling them to invest in an indoor football practice facility, et al. When you pay an instructor who teaches five course (yes five) less than I pay the entry-level secretary in my company (below $23,000), you're not really advancing the educational mission of the university. And I thought there had been a recent spate of reports of felons living in dorms. And the university spokesperson's response to this was, "Well, that's part of the diversity that we offer here."And your incoming student ACT scores, retention rates and Carnegie rankings are third-lowest of 14 state universities. My bottom line is this -- don't throw bricks at an excellent university to try to make yourself feel better about attending Akron U. AU has an important mission and it serves the community and surrounding area well. But to trash the reputation of a 204-year-old school that has an excellent academic reputation is sure idiocy. And on that party school thing -- true, in the eyes of the local police department (ala Andy Griffith Show) and hack weekly newspaper, the action on Court Street in Athens is pretty eciting, leading to newspaper reports (most of which relate to activities of non-OE students, but rather their weekend guests from other schools). But if you've ever spent any time on/near the OSU campus, you'd know that it's not even a shadow of what happens in Columbus on a weekly basis.
  14. This is rich: Akron fans calling out OU on academics. OU is a far, far better school by any measure -- standards for incoming freshman, overall ACT scores of incoming students (it's not even close), research rankings by Carnegie Foundation (OU is a Tier 1 "major research university," Akron a Tier 4), overall academic rankings by national accrediting agencies, job placement, alumni giving...not to mention the fact that we don't welcome felons to attend school and live in dorms...and we don't allow any yahoo in the world to teach classes. Yes, you actually have to be a member of the faculty at OU to teach. Amazing fact that tends to raise the level of education.I live in Akron, so believe me when I tell you that AU is seen as a joke among local families and serious high school students. In fact, it's long been known as "Hilltop High."So swallow your jealosy and keep it to sports, OK?
  15. Oh, wait, you mean Jeremiah Wood didn't have 4 pts? Even Dambrot admitted that "Woodsie looked lost out there."Sorry, but the truth hurts. You cant ban me for pointing out the truth.
  16. What you saw tonight was one team that had played a cupcake schedule and couldnt deliver in a tight game, and antoher that has challeneged itself with a decent early schedule. Sorry, guys, but you only have 4 quality wins.
  17. Or maybe he's blossomed in the increased minutes he's seen? Come on, there's no reasonable argument you can make to say you're better just because a guy who didn't start for you starts for us. Wood probably wouldn't start over Leon and Jerome. Does that mean we're better? Funniest post of the year right there. OU would be shitting their pants to get Wood. Where was J. Wood tonight? 4 pts., totally dominated by Tillman and Leon? That's why I hate Akron -- you guys are huge whiners who simply dont know the game or the league.
