Duquesne made just one basket in the final 6:18 "but we have experience and toughness that saved our behinds..." -Dambrot, the man is sometimes hilariously eloquent"They got up on him physically and he kind of went away."- Duq's coach- that's what i want to hear! Basketball is a contact sport, I don't care what they say!

"He was officially 6'4" 305 "Saw him yesterday in Subway and I will verify these numbers. He is walking wall. I love it. I hope his career is long and he gets picked up by a team that will really develop him into an even better guard.

Ouch. I like it."Every one of those "fans" will storm the court just like last year if Can't State defends its title, and they will all claim that they were behind the flushes all along. The 3,016 true fans who took the time to get to the M.A.C. Center on Wednesday night will have every right to roll their eyes and demand, "Where were you the last few months?"" Can't is Can't.... kinda pitiful.

MAC Report Online Announces Year-End Awards
BZip_08 replied to MACReport's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
"Sixth Man of the Year - Cedrick Middleton, Guard, AkronPlaying on a high-powered team like the Akron Zips may not seem to be a likely place to find a sixth man of the year award winner. After all the Zips are blessed with talented players like the explosive Romeo Travis and playmakers like Dru Joyce and Jeremiah Wood, not to mention solid contributors like Nick Dials and Nate Linhart. But playing in a seven-man rotation has enabled Cedrick Middleton to develop into one of the Zips' top threats this season and has earned Middleton MAC Report Online's Sixth Man of the Year Award. As the Zips' first man off the bench, Middleton, who has started three of the Zips' contests this season, is averaging 10.9 points per game and is shooting 41% from beyond the three point line. The junior guard from Chicago is third on the Zips in steals and assists and as the first man off the bench has become a stabilizing force in key situations for the Zips, logging minutes more akin to being a starter than a bench player as each year the delineation between a bench player and starter gets a little more difficult to define. "Cedrick is one of my favorite players of all time," enthused Akron head coach Keith Dambrot. "He brings so much to our team and understands the important role he plays for us. There is no question that he is sixth man of the year." Middleton saved his best performance of the season for Akron's January 17 contest against crosstown rival, and defending MAC champion Can't State when he poured in 25 points in 34 minutes, leading the Zips to a crucial 78-68 win that kept Akron ahead of Can't State in the race for the MAC East crown. With the Zips currently atop the MAC East and on the verge of another record-setting year in terms of victories, Middleton has been a key ingredient to the Zips' current success and has earned MAC Report Online's Sixth Man of the Year Award."Can I get an Amen? Cedric brings speed and smarts, and who doesn't love having another guard. It's fun to watch when Cedric, Dru and Nick are all out on the floor together- defenses have no clue what to do. I love it. -
I hope Nate heals up. Broken fingers take forever, sometimes months to really get back to 100%... Even though he hasn't been awe-inspiring this season. He is a solid player, especially for his age. He plays some wicked defense, and usually fouls the opposing player, but hey I'd rather have someone willing to hit the floor than a pansy that refuses to play real defense.

Superstitious is right... hey that's how weird traditions start."D) I'm not saying the students there for Greek night wouldn't have been loud and crazy - but how do you know? "I would have forced them- that's how. I've been a Greek since fall 2004... I'm old, whopping 21 years of me, I have clout and would have used it. That actually would have been a great tool if we have intermixed some Greeks down below with Rowdies, especially TKE's- not my favorite fraternity (I don't have one fyi) but they're loud and obnoxious when given the opportunity. Also I was the Southsider in Greek letters and a couple people gave me crap about it. I laughed at them and reminded them that the entire student section up above was filled with hundreds of Greeks in letters, afterall it was GREEK NIGHT AT THE JAR. Which should have been earlier in the season. It would have driven some interest up in the Greek community and maybe a few more students would have been coming to games for the rest of the season.

"Someone please explain the fascination with Goddard to me. I just don't get it. He's a freak show. Fun to watch in warmups while he takes his 35 footers, many of them from the opposing teams bench, but when he gets in the game he's still acting like that. To me he's a smaller version of Bubba Walther without the mood swings. Hoisting up ridiculous threes with no regard for anything else, if he hits them maybe he can bury you, but if not he's a liability on the court. I've seen nothing to indicate that he can play solid defense and his speed is lackluster at best. "(1) AMEN. Don't get me wrong, the kid has some wicked threes from half-frickin-court... during practice. But he has not shown the patience or the maturity to wait for the shot. Heck, even I can shoot a three from a mile away, that doesn't mean I should. I've said it all season at the game, when people start bitchin about putting Goddard in- if there are only a couple minutes left and we're winning by more than 20- okay. Otherwise, there is no way. F Throw % 1st Half: 14-27 51.9% 2nd Half: 18-27 66.7% Game: 59.3% (2) Free throw percentage could definitely be better, but the fact they gave us 54 makes me sick. That is some ugly playing on BG's part. I don't care how bad mac refs are, they can only account for a few of those.(3) Another game over 5,000. They got their money's worth. It was exciting... I almost had a panic attack from the newest version of the Cardiac Kids, but it was exciting.

Bleacherbum rocks at life basically. Good luck guys & don't get arrested. -
I just went on Ticketmaster to see if I could get anything but general admission and the answer is no!So sad, I guess that means I'll just have to yell louder from the nosebleeds...like that's ever stopped me before.

Loss one vs. UALR: Lost by 2, missed 10 FT.Loss two @. UIC : Lost by 6, missed 9 FT.Loss three v. Nevada: Lost by 2, missed 9 FT.Loss four @ Ohio: Lost by 5, missed 3 FT.Loss five @ Toledo: Lost by 3, missed 1 FT.Loss Six @ Miami: Lost by 2, missed 7 FT.Oy veh. Last night I turned on the radio to listen to Dru Joyce taking a shot from another county at the buzzer. When they're hot out past the arc, awesome- go for those big shots. But if the game is on the line- go for the sure thing. Yes, a lovely storybook ending winning by a three in hostile territory (miami) would be lovely, but this isn't a storybook. Stop taking shots in an attempt just to get on sportscenter. Win the game humbly. If nothing else, it's another reality check for our boys. They aren't perfect. They're making simple mistakes, like missing free throws, something that should be given.

I'M FORCING MY ENTIRE SORORITY TO COME!That's 65 college women if anyone wants to know. We're loud.

Anyone who has watched MAC teams play knows that anyone can win. Momentum is key, but no matter where UA is seeded it's going to be tough.

"For the Rowdies that didn't get the e-mail, as far as I know, they selected the 50 people that have attended the most men's basketball games, women's basketball games, and the other games on the "Official AK-Rowdies Schedule" they gave you when you signed up. "I'm pretty sure he's right. Somehow I ended up in that group, and I really hope they extend some kind of deal for other students. I love free, but I know they can't do that for everyone. We just need to get massive amounts of students to come out and be loud in Cleveland. Our boys deserve no less.
-
"Hopefully we can make Millett rockin!!! And for any of you that are students reading this, NO SITTING DOWN!"They are trying to fill the place and be loud... or at least the the whopping 17 replies to this thread are.I hope they do fill it, that way as many people as possible can really see how good Akron is.

"What I like about this team? Ever since Bubba left, EVERY player on this team has a willingness to do the dirty work. They all dive on the floor for loose balls, and all work together defensively. This is certainly a reflection of the coach. When I am at games, I find myself cheering the defensive hustle more than the dunks. Who do I think most epitomizes this attitude?....Nick Dials. I really believe that he is the emotional leader of this team. "I have to agree with SkipZip. Defense is what makes me like college basketball.

Who wants to see Carroll get bigger? He could really mature into a physical presence, after all he is only a freshman. I can't wait to see him next year, given I'm a bit biased- went to school with him, graduated with his older brother.

paid attendance: 4138Actual attendance: 1514 Yeah I know. Sarcasm just doesn't transfer right sometimes.JAR would have sold out last night if mother-effin-nature would have agreed.I must say though, for the people that were there, they actually really wanted to be there! People stood up, okay not for the entire game like the Rowdies. But standing is standing.
