Maybe it isn't all the coaches fault. I would argue that the University is giving less meaningful support to the football program than it was 5 years ago.
-
If you think Akron can coach itself out of the hole the administration has created for this football program, you don't understand how important it is that an entire university administration support a program in order for it to be successful. Look at it like this. Joe is a mid level many at a badly run company. There is no winning and the only way for a person to advance their career is to leave the organization.
-
Don't forget he has an administration that submarines the program at every turn. That's a huge benefit.
-
I get how pissed you are. There are a lot of things to be mad at. Here is a different perspective. Joe is coaching at a school that at every turn under mines him. If you are going to go down, you my as well go down swinging with what you believe in. There is nothing for Joe at Akron. In 15-20 years he will look at taking the Akron job as one of the worst decisions in his life.

It's a long story.....

Coaching at Hoban has been good to Jim Grobe.

I agree. If someone offered any one of us a job and then didn't pay us, we'd stop going to work also.

Moorhead 2024 make or break season to keep job?

I'd love it if Joe asked him what his plan is to help him get into the top 3. -

No disagreeing, just asking. I have no doubt understands the marketing value. Does he know what to do about it? -
Moorhead 2024 make or break season to keep job?

The only miss was Joe taking the job. If Akron can hire a caliber of coach at his level and the school will not support his program, can Akron ever win? -
Moorhead 2024 make or break season to keep job?

Tom Arth is a key coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is designing a passing offense for an average at best QB and they are 3-0. He was bad at Akron because he couldn't put a staff together that could bring in talent. He is very good at other parts of being a coach, but not good enough for what Akron needed. What I'm saying is there are a ton of places Joe can go and be successful, and he should. He should have bailed last year after the $#!+ the school pulled when Kennedy bailed. It was a knife in the chest of the Moorhead tenure at Akron. Drives me nuts every time I think about it. Could be in College or the NFL. Head coach or not, he'll be in demand. The failure at Akron would be easy to explain in an interview because there are tons of coaches out there who have failed in an unsupportive organizations. Akron should be a place where the football program thrives. We go through one coach after another. The coaches change but the way the University runs the program remains the same. Hmmm.... what could be the problem? -
I know what it is. It's a bad attempt to gauge how players are impacted throughout a game and then impacts their performance. Isolated to five areas. Doesn't take psychological impact on players.

Nice human approach to viewing football. We've reached a point in society where too many thinks football is a video game or just a jumble of statistics. The QB never gets hurt or has emotion in a video game.
-
I think you are right and would like to add. I would say coaching is 1A and the coach bringing in a QB for his system in year one is 1B. The QB attracts skilled players that best fit the new coaches system. It allows the coach to better create his own program. I've said it for a couple of years here and I'll say it again. Moorheads biggest mistake is not bringing in his guy on day one and then living and dying with that guy. Colorado is a way better program than before Sanders. They are relevant, exciting and generally competitive.

Moorhead 2024 make or break season to keep job?

Better topic headline would be "Moorhead 2024: Why Would He Stay Until 2025?" -
Good post. It's very simple. Akron has made a choice to lose in favor of money. Failure is the easiest possible choice. I can't imagine an easier choice for the AD a few months back than signing the contract to play OSU in lieu of scheduling a more winnable game. The players are not robots. They are at least smart enough to get into college and most will graduate. They understand what goes on around them. They are friends with and stay in touch with players at other schools. High school coaches know what is going on at Akron. There are no secrets. It has to be demoralizing beyond belief for the players/coaches to go to practice/work every day knowing the institution you attend/work for us conspiring against your success. Success is hard. It starts with a choice to be successful. JFK specifically used the word "choose".

I feel about the same way reading these stats as I do when a baseball announcer tells me about exit velocity.
-
It's not that Akron can't compete. We've had big wins against P5 schools and trips to the Championship. We are not competing in a meaningful way is the problem.
-
Why can't he find another way to mismanage the athletic department other than destroying the football program?
-
And a home game. One of my brothers sent me a note last night basically saying and asking.... Akron played OSU, USC and Rutgers. Four of their first five games are on the road. Does their athletic director hate the football program? Can anyone give me a reason to say no to the question?
-
You are mostly correct. I would say the team is flat. They have taken a beating the past four weeks and it looked like it. They need a momentum boost early in the game this week. JoeMo needs to be aggressive on defense in a way that forces some turnovers and take some big play shots down field early. Trying to sleepwalk through a game the way they did last night won't cut it. If they can do these things, they can win. If they don't, you are correct that there are only two more winnable games on the schedule.

https://www.thestate.com/sports/college/university-of-south-carolina/usc-football/article289359760.html I was talking with my friends yesterday at the game and renovations to Williams Brice Stadium came up. There is no way MAC level schools can compete in the future of college football and they badly need their own division. Part of the discussion not mentioned in the article is USC is planning on reducing the crowd size while increasing revenue. Part of that is moving the students section and giant scoreboard to the opposite side of the stadium, tearing down the current student section/scoreboard and replacing it with luxury condos. Each condo will have a balcony where you can sit outside and watch the game. If you think people won't buy the condos and you were at the game yesterday, keep in mind a lot of the condos across the street from the stadium are owned by wealthy people and only stay in them on game day. I was able to go to the private party once. They have a bar and live bands playing on game day. The condos attached to the Cockaboose RR cars are the same way. Think about what someone would pay for a view of the game from their condo, private bathrooms and air conditioning.

Week 4 - Zips vs. Gamecocks @ 7:30 pm EST
GP1 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
I left at halftime. Game can be described in one word, lifeless. I hope the check was worth it. If they don't win next week, they won't get to my prediction of three wins. The program is on life support. -
I love when people vent. I could do without the comparisons to a crappy small town full of halfwits who have nothing better to do on Friday nights than going to high school football games.
