Answer to use our case: On third and sixteen, every other team has a picket line of defenders at sixteen yards and does not allow the other team to get the distance. We somehow don't have a defender in the TV screen when the ball is caught.I don't care what the numbers say, this 3-3-5 defense gives up too many yards at key times all at once.Touchdown. A seven point game with one minute to go and a team driving to tie constitutes a better game than OSU vs. NW for a lot of reasons. One, NW stinks and the first minute of that game was going to be the only time the game was close all day. NW lost to Duke the week before and helped Duke break their some 20 game losing streak.Second, are the egos of OSU fans really that fragile that they are going to call to complain about missing five minutes of what I would hope they know is going to be a bad game? I'll say it again. Anyone centering their day around watching OSU play a terrible NW team is a loser. Anyone who went to that game needs immediate psychiatric help. Had the Akron game gone into overtime, it would have been even that much better than the OSU game.Third, it's the fault of the Big Ten Network that the Cleveland ABC station is full of idiots? I'll let someone else explain the logic of this one. I can't.Fourth, Big Ten football is "big boy" football. I think the fans of the SEC and PAC 10 would have something to say about that. The Big Ten is currently a second rate major conference that is closer to being like the MAC than the SEC or PAC 10. I'd go as far as to say that OSU couldn't finish in the top three of either the SEC or PAC 10. One of the least competitive games Florida played all last season was against OSU. We have to do what we do for now. The position is really designed for a strong safety so the replacement is probably picked already from that type of player. Actually, the replacement was picked during training camp. It is a physical position so the risk of getting hurt is greater than most DBs. I can live with a #2, but if that person gets hurt we could be scraping to find someone. Regardless of the size of school, there is a big drop off from #1 to #2.....think of how bad it could be if we had to go further or really move some people around and disrupt everything.

Actually, last Saturday was probably the last big crowd EVER for a Rubber Bowl UofA game as we will play Can't at Can't next year and the following year the new stadium will be open. Doesn't seem to be much interest in going to the Rubber Bowl to watch Akron play anyone other than Can't.Everyone, please don't worry too much about the trash situation at the Rubber Bowl. Within two years, that place should become landfill as well. Twenty cops are not going to interrupt their overtime Rubber Bowl Coffee Talk to come swooping down to disrupt the tailgating.

Excellent point. We should all remember that the University has an Alumni Department, separate from the Athletic Department that is in charge of alumni relations. They also have an Athletic Development Department that is charged with raising money for Athletics....not alumni relations. The two departments do different things by design and my understanding is the University wants it that way. There is no coordination of alumni events by the Alumni Department for anything that goes on outside of a sporting event.To put it another way....I go watch the Zips at a local bar where I live now. That same bar is the home of the local, College From Central Ohio Alumni Chapter (I had no idea it was their home, I just wanted the best sports bar around and that was it). Two years straight they have won the Outstanding Alumni Chapter Award from CFCO (they bring the awards with them to the games) and they probably get a minimum 100 alumni per game. They only deal with the Alumni Department at CFCO and not the Athletic Department. The local president of the CFCO alumni chapter runs a 50/50 raffle at each game that makes hundreds of dollars for CFCO Foundation. He's a real nice NE Ohio guy. Ten dollars to get in the raffle and everyone does it, even the non CFCO alumns, because they want to try to win some money.....and we hear complaining about $5.00 parking. Yikes....Here's the question. If anyone wanted to do this for UofA, does anyone have a clue as to how to get it done? There is almost no communication between the Alumni Department and the Alumni beyond the Akron magazine I get monthly. I'd do it, I could put some of the time I waste on this board and put it into that effort. Even if I did do something, would any alumni support it or would it be a waste of time (as if my time on this board isn't a waste of time).

Who cares how the lot looked? It's owned by the City of Akron. They have been choking the University for decades for every last penny they can squeeze out of the U. Between making the U pay for it's parking spots they sell in advance and the permits to erect every little tent, they should have plenty of money to clean up. Screw them. Let them get their asses out there and clean up some trash. It's the cost of doing business...big crowds make big messes. In a couple of years, we will have our own lots and you guys can worry about another important parking issue such as trash clean up then.

I'm not that worried about UCONN. The biggest problem we have is we have always played so poorly when we play there. Taking an inexperienced team on the road is very difficult.Someone told me that two weeks ago, UCONN was given a gift by the referees that allowed them to barely beat Temple. Beating Pitt doesn't seem to be that difficult these days. UCONN still has to prove they are a good team and someone people should worry about.With that said, I'll continue to bask in the afterglow of beating Can't for the remainder of the week. The coaches and players have to worry about UCONN....I don't.

Interesting post. Too early to tell. I predicted seven wins and I stand by that. Too many games for everyone to play to make a decision on the MAC East. 4-2 may not be good enough. 5-1 is an almost guarantee. As long as we either beat OU or BGSU, then we should be OK.

My understanding (not 100% sure) is when a student goes to the game, it counts as a sold ticket. It has something to do with the sharing of the money from your activity fee or whatever they call it these days.There are fewer people on the home side because those are largely reserved seats. Family Pack tickets move a lot of tickets in the GA section so the visitors section is more full. Can't fans were probably over there also so they filled up the stands.Maybe I'm not the one who should be saying this, but Akron really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really needs people to bring their children to the games. Family Packs are critical to ticket sales. The student section doing profanity laced chants does not give parents with children between the ages of 5 and 12 a good feeling. Let's not drive them away. You're all in college and should be smarter than that. The next time someone tries to start one, please do your school, and everyone at the game a favor, and blast that person in the face. Doug Martin said two things yesterday after the game that are true, but should not be said after a loss. The first is above. The second has something to do with giving the game away with turnovers. Both are true. However, Can't didn't seem to have an answer for our defense either. Coach Martin should coach not turning the ball over better.Akron beat a very good team yesterday.
