  1. Bringing Temple into the league makes no sense for either Temple or the MAC. Temple would be an eastern school playing in a mid west conference. It didn't work for Penn State and it certaily will not work for Temple. I also can not think of a single benefit for the league by bringing in Temple. Navy would be a different story. Typically, the military schools draw nice crowds to games. It could work out well for the MAC and Navy. Navy recruits nationally, so playing in a mid west conference will not negatively impact their recruiting. But then again, I like our chances in the MAC East with Navy and Temple. Think about it: Akron, Temple, Navy, Buffalo, Can't State, Ohio and throw in either Miami or BG and our chances look good. Have a good weekend everyone.
  2. I never feared him one bit. He may be with Charlie for now, but there is no way he makes the team in the fall.
  3. There is a town area (it's actually more of a road) in WL that has several bars near campus. You should not have any problem finding a place to have some fun. Just a warning though, you have to be smart to go to Purdue so the eye candy is not that great. As far as places to eat, there is a small diner called the Triple X that is famous. I wouldn't eat dinner there, but it is a neat thing to do for lunch. Frequently ABC will send a crew down to show it during a game. The place has a continuous counter that goes around the little diner and the little burgers they serve are great. You can get a burger, fries and a drink for something like $4.50. It may not look good on the outside, but the food is good. A agree that getting there is a pain. I would recommend the northern way taking you toward Chicago. Route 30 is suicide and Indianapolis is too far south. Once you get to South Bend, start looking for ways to get there at that point using back roads.
  4. Nice work Capt. After the spring game, I was much less worried about the OL than before the game. While they were not what we would want, they did look better than expected. When they did run, they moved the ball well. They seemed to spend a lot of time in the spring game passing. I expect the same out of the QB position next year as I don't think 2,600 yards is too much to ask out of a D-I QB. Throwing slants and to the TE makes it easy to reach that yardage amount. The real test is going to be the ability of the team to get first downs and control field positon. If they can do that, it puts our defense in a much better position to make a difference. I do think the defense will be better next year and if it is, the offense will have more chances to score and also have less yardage to gain prior to scoring. I still think we might see some really good things from this team next year.
  5. Here it is Homers. http://www.sportsgoons.com/volume3/Vol3_Is...wards_posse.htm
  6. They played at Miami in 03. It has to be 04 because the uniform change was made in 03 and they are at the Rubber Bowl.
  7. Dr.Z, If the retards at Browns Stadium still wear #54 for a guy who never played a down in a regular season (Speilman), you don't have to change your number. Just buy a new jersey. The money will go to Charlie for any products with his name on it.
  8. Four year contract starting at $600,000 and graduating up to $800,000. If he starts, he could make up to $1.2 mil in incentives (similar to Roethlisberger). Signing bonus of $500,000 spread out over the course of the contract. The only guarantee in the NFL is the signing bonus so if he is cut or traded, it will be the only money he makes. If this does happen, it will not happen for three years at the earliest. I wonder if he is working on his own brand of bad BBQ sauce similar to Kelly H.
  9. I've mentioned this on the board before, and I'll mention it again. Chase stands a good chance, if he gets on with the right team, to have a long career as a long snapper. He's good at it, he's fast and he takes up a lot of space in the middle. Long snappers play sometimes for 15-17 years if they are good. He could have the longest NFL career of any Zip ever.
  10. When the Pirates built PNC park, I bought my parents a brick (8" x 8") with their name on it for $65. It is behind the home plate gate. My wife bought a normal house type brick for me for $50. To this day, I still have no idea where it is and rocket scientists working for the Pirates know where it is but they always forget to send out the map to me each time I ask.
  11. You think I don't know I have issues? Of course I have issues....what does that have to do with my post?
  12. I have mixed feelings about the pick. As a Zips fan, I'm happy to see one of our own do really well and make a lot of money. In the end, it is just a really easy and high paying job. Charlie cashing in is a good thing for him and the University. I've said a lot of negative things about Charlie on this page, but always in reference to his football performance (lack of winning) and not his person. He is a good person (which we are all supposed to be) and he has earned this money and I will still never say anything bad about his person. Being a Steelers fan though, it is open season on him from my stand point. I have never been as happy with a Browns draft pick as I was last night. Secondly, I'm happy because I bet a Marshall fan $50 that Frye would get drafted in the first three rounds and he did. I will donate the money and a matching gift from my company totaling $100 to the University of Akron Foundation. Thirdly, as a human being and a Steelers fan I feel bad for Charlie because he has to play in front of the "Dumbest Fans In The World" for the start of his career. They will run him out of Cleveland faster than 19. It will be brutal to watch. I will pray for the day when he is run out of town and gets a second chance with fans who aren't so bitter they do nothing at games except make @$$e$ out of themselves and their community. Bitter and dumb is a terrible combination. Lastly, as a Steelers fan, I'm happy that Charlie will one day be starting against the Steelers. He has never beat Big Ben and he never will. With Charlie starting and his record of winnig, it will guarantee the Browns 6-7 wins a year and the Steelers will be guaranteed playoff spots year in and year out. What Bill Schottencowher does with those playoff spots will be another issue. Anyhow, good job Charlie! I look forward to seeing you against the Steelers. Joey Porter wants to say hello.
  13. Maybe some day, but not any time soon. Certainly not as long as Ben is with the Steelers.
  14. There are no classes on winning. Either you can or you can't.
  15. I'm sure he was just waiting with bated breath to take that 50% pay cut.
  16. The BCS "led" Pitt to a BCS game. not Tyler Palko. If you think Pitt would have received anything but an invite to the Motor City Bowl had they not received the sorry-ass Big LEast automatic BCS bid, you have at least one thing in common with Josh Cribbs (puff, puff, puff) Great win vs. Notre Dame? Wow...ND was a juggernaut last year. How 'bout Palko's riveting performance vs. Furman? UConn? Were any of his "wins" vs Rutgers or Temple? Yes, two. They also nailed mighty South Florida. That home loss to doormat Nebraska was impressive too, as was the 35-7 Fiesta Bowl beating to non-BCS Utah (quick, name another player on Utah's roster besides Alex Smith...I THOUGHT so!) Man, the Dude is a "winner." Palko couldn't hold Frye's jock strap. WOW CK, you and Zips Win are making my points for me today. The evidence you use points to the fact that Pitt did suck, which they did. If you read my post again, I never say that Palko is a great QB. All I said was that he is a winner, and the record proves so. I'll take a winner any day over a sub 50% player.
  17. I think you just belittled him for me. Using one drive in an otherwise unremarkable OU game says a lot about what we saw the past four years. Bubbles of greatness in a sea of average play. OU absolutely stunk and a MAC QB like Limpwich would have dismantled that team with nine guys. I'm not sure if everyone gets it yet. If he was that good, he SHOULD make plays like that against OU at a minumum.
  18. The biggest difference between Palko and "Superman" is that Palko is a winner and "Superman" is not. Palko lead Pitt, after starting the season 2-2, to a huge win against Notre Dame and a BCS Bowl Game. Where did "Superman" lead us? Quick, name another starter for Pitt last season.....................too late, you coudn't do it fast enough. Their team was crap and he lead them to a BCS Game. If you folks think I am harsh, just wait until 5 loses in the NFL. NFL fans will tear him to shreads like he has never experienced before. It will make my posts look like kids play. That's OK though, just keep the 5 excuse train running. It gives me material for my soon to be post titled "The 101 Piss Poor Excuses for 5 Not Winning". Who should be the jock holder again?
  19. There is an post on GoZips.com today about a Varsity A reverse raffle. If there are any former varsity players reading this, go on to the web site and register for the Varsity "A" Association. A three year membership costs $60 and a one year $25. For more reasons than I want to get into on this post, not many former varsity athletes associate with the school in the same way as other Division I schools. This has to change if the Zips are to become a big time program. Register for the reverse raffle and go to it. You can't be all that busy on a Monday night in May. Then go to the golf outings in the summer for your individual sports. I am confident you will have a good time and see some old friends. I put this post on the football page because this seems to be the one that gets the most hits. If the administrators of this board think the post should be in another area or multiple areas, please feel free to move it.
  20. Let him go. One less former LO recruit on the team.
  21. I agree ITZ. Ferg did look good. However, he was playing against the third team defense with some of the starting OL being forced to play with the third team. The question is whether he can do it or not with the first team. As you know, things get much faster when playing with the starters.
  22. WOW, I thought the 5 excuse making machine would wait to get running until at least after draft day. I don't know if maybe it is never to late to get started or it just never ended. Since I like this board and the people on it so much, I am currently developing a 5 excuse making cheat sheet that will greatly reduce the amount of time typing on this board. It will be numerically based with an excuse tied to each number so you can just type in the number instead of the whole phrase. I am attempting to gather all of the excuses used over the past two years to include so I am sure you all understand it is taking a lot of time. When completed, it will greatly reduce the amount of time each of you spend making excuses. Potentially, it could be the greatest post ever on this page. Please, there is no need to thank me. I feel I have an obligation to help my fellow Zips fans. Keep posted.....
  23. I would like to thank ESPN for copying ideas out of my posts about 5 for the past nine months. The one thing they all are missing is the lack of winning. I have a brother who coached college for many years and coached at Maryland for a few. His comment to me at the OU game last year was that 5 was "average". While I think he is a little better than average, you all know I was never a true believer, I believe this ESPN analysis is exactly correct with the exception that I think 5 appeared to be much faster than his 40 time showed.
  24. Jabari was a disaster. He couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. The easiest pass to throw is the bubble screen because the receiver isn't far away and the blocker makes it almost impossible to intercept the ball. Each time, the receivers had to catch the ball around their knees. Getsy needs to work on his timing, but that will come. His accuracy was good enough to make him starting QB. Remember the four most important traits of a QB: 1. Decision Making 2. Accuracy 3. Accuracy 4. Accuracy
  25. AAAAAHHHHHHH!!! Thanks to Zip Watcher, I'm back at it again and I have a lot to say. Thanks ZW. Just a quick point of fact. We didn't win many games at all with Charlie (19 to be exact). Onward and upward.
