  1. www.motorcitybowl.comI don't know if this has been posted or not, but there are some great photos on this board. The size of the crowd is impressive to me. I knew it was big, but I didn't reaize how many people were actually on the Akron side until these photos.
  2. There is an experienced stick up guy on the loose right now in Columbus. Maybe you could call Mo C to do the hold up for you.
  3. Don't bother......I'm not a very likable guy.For those of you voting and not giving an opinion, shame on you!
  4. I think you hit the nail on the head with the money. Five years ago we were paid something around $365,000 to play OSU. That same year or the year before K-ent went to WVU and only made $200,000. As far as recruiting, I think it would help on a small level to have OSU on the schedule. Especially with in state recruits. At least we could match the other Ohio MAC schools that play OSU.A game at Browns Stadium against OSU is not the answer for Akron. Look at the wonders playing OSU at Paul Brown in Cincinnati has done for that program. Four years later they are one of the worst teams in the Big East.Akron should take the approach Toledo does with their team. Toledo was on national TV 12 times in the past two seasons because they are willing to go anywhere and play anybody on any day. Kids will be attracted to playing on TV more than playing at OSU. I agree Akron should schedule two BCS teams on the road each year for the money alone. If you can get a two for one deal then great. The other games should be against any D-1A team willing to play us home and home. Maybe a home and home against Pittsburgh or Cincinnati or someone like that. I'd love Akron to include some west coast teams. Boise State, New Mexico, Fresno State, Air Force,......how about Colorado State? How about this? Opening day of a new Akron stadium, OSU comes to town. The only way to guarantee tickets to the game is to buy Akron full season tickets. Sell the tickets for that game at a way inflated price to pay OSU what they would want and sell the remainder at a normal price.
  5. I love the "congratulated" line.Look, this young lady knew exactly what she was doing. She did a segment for ESPN's Cold Pizza and she had on the split jersey during the game. I hardly feel sorry for her. She wasn't hiding from the media in any way.
  6. Was anyone more disgusted than me about the constant showing of Brady Quinn's horse faced sister in the stands yesterday? I know this isn't an Akron topic, but the answers might be fun.In the second half, AJ (I'll never have as good of an NFL career of Katzenmoyer) Hawk sacked Brady Quinn and OSU apologist Brent Musberger (sp?) said, "I wonder what they said to each other?". The poll allows you some selections to decide. Feel free to post your own if you wish.ZipsWin!, you can take your time on this one. I'm sure you have a lot of reading to do. The Notre Dame excuse machine was probably late getting out all of the excuses for Notre Dame loss and trying to explain why they are actually a better program than OSU even though they are 0-3 against them in the past ten years. I'm sure they are beating the drum for how tough their schedule is, even though it was absolutely horrible this year. If you tell a lie long enough, people begin to believe it.
  7. Interesting you posted this ITZ. You have been conspicuously quite about this subject the past couple of years. I've always felt there was more than meets the eye about your lack of comment on this subject. That goes for others on this board as well. Happy New Year everyone.
  8. Find a fourth linebacker and switch to a 3-4 defense. We need more size up front. Memphis completely dominated the line against Akron.Secondly, they need to develop the WRs.
  9. Last night I turned on ABC to watch Dick Clark ring in the new year, something came to mind. It happened when he stated the following sentence..."Yieag hmhey mo mowhf blathl." While most would just consider this statement pearls of wisdom to live by, I decided to use them as a tool to change my ways.I could say something like, "What's next, Dick hosting the show with Corky from Life Goes On next year", but I won't.Or I could say something like, "Great, now we have to watch Baby Boomers make fools of themselves for the next 20 years on television", but I won't.Or I could say something like, "I bet the guy running closed caption is having a Hell of a time tonight", but I won't.Or I could say something like, "So much for eternal youth", but I won't.Or I could say, "Does anybody else find Dick Clark douche chilling or is it me", but I won't.I hope that when I am old, my loved ones will preserve my dignity by not allowing me to go on national TV in that state so some jackass can make fun of me on a web board.....
  10. I want to weigh in on this arm strength issue between the two. If it was a contest between the two of them throwing the ball from their knees, Getsy would win. The game isn't played like that though. To piggy back on the physics theme CK put up early in the week, we all know Force=Mass x Acceleration. Frye is extremely fast for the position he plays so when he is running, it adds to the acceleration part of the equation and he can throw the ball really hard and he also has good accuracy when he runs which is a huge part of the NFL game. If you can force him to stay in they pocket, he is easy to beat because he does not have the stand and throw arm strength required to win long term in the NFL.Charlie will waste away in the graveyard that is Cleveland for 3-4 years. It will be interesting to see who wants him after that though. Just ask Tim Couch. Maybe he could marry a hot Playmate fo the Year like Couch did and they could retire together, count their money and argue over who has the hotter wife. Not bad work if you can get it.
  11. I don't think "people" are down on Frye. I think one person is...and that person likes to type alot...so it looks like many are. I don't like to type a lot..................I LOVE to type a lot.
  12. The University should build the stadium without help from the City or the Convention Board. If you build it with them, they have the right to tell you what to do with it. I love the idea of a dome though. With a dome, truely fair weather fans have no excuse not to come to games. The dome should be next to the fieldhouse. Ther ewill never be a dome though because it will increase the cost of the stadium too much.If the Univeristy wants to rent the dome to any convention coming into Akron, that would be fine because the convention would have to pay rent to the school and it could be a good source of money.Welcome aboard ZipsNation.
  13. Boise State nearly beat BC on Boise's home field. Boise State...not Penn State, not Ohio State, not Florida State...B-O-I-S-E STATE. I remember similar "we're going to lose 65-0" cries when we played Virginia Tech at the Rubber Bowl several years ago. We almost beat them.If Boise State can take BC down to the game's final play on their home field, the Zips could do as well or better in 2006. We could certainly also do worse too...but that is the same regardless of any team we'd play. Be careful of what you wish for. Akron needs to bring in a Cincinnati or a Kentucky or Vandy or someone like that. Boise State destroyed a MAC school, I just can't remember who it was, this season in Boise. BC is a good team this year and they are going to be even better next season. I'm fearful the MAC is on the decline after the Leftwich and Roethlisberger years and nobody realizes it yet. Most people are drinking the leftover punch from Roethlisberger's senior year when the MAC did very well nationally. Bringing in a team like Temple actually makes the conference worse, not better. We'll see if the MAC can improve the nonconference performance next season. It wasn't very impressive this season.
  14. Look Einstein, we all know how scheduling works and teams playing at alternating fields. I know how you think football was invented at Toledo, but those of us here in Akron aren't your little students to teach lessons. My point was BUGS could have been scheduled at Akron this season. Do we have an advantage next year, of course. Look, the MAC offices hate Akron and if you ask anyone in the Athletic Department, they will tell you the same thing. Now that Akron has proven it can take a large crowd to a bowl game, they should ease up on giving us the shaft. I'd love to continue to win just to stick it up the ass of the Commissioner.I wonder if you thought the MAC East was weak when Marshall and Miami were winning it year after year? All that matters is what happens on the field, and this I know for sure. Akron beat that overrated team (NIU) from the overrated Division (MAC West) twice this season. We have a trophy in our building to prove it. Don't think for one second that we all sit over here scared of the MAC West. The "C" in MAC West stands for chokers. Maybe Toledo Tom could win a hot dog eating contest and bring a championship trophy home. 2005 isn't over yet. How long do you think his whistle would last if it was made of butter?Since you are all knowing about how "things at this level work", how are the rest of your athletic programs doing? In the fall alone, we won the MAC East football, the MAC Championship game in football, went to the final eight in the European football and our gals won the MAC Cross Country Championship. I think Akron is operating at a pretty high level, can you say the same thing? Or are you just going to go on and on about how many people go to UT games? If you ask me, I'm glad we don't operate at your low level. Fear the Roo bitch.
  15. I would hope this doesn't happen. BC looked really good last night and they really have some top tier players playing for them. Remember, players win games and BC has much better players than we do. BC will destroy any team in the MAC next year at any MAC stadium.
  16. If this is our schedule next year, the Zips win seven easy. I think they beat Miami and BUGS. They split with NIU and Toledo. That's eight wins, but an upset will give them seven with a 6-2 MAC East record. The MAC East will be soft next year. Early prediction is we'll see everyone in Detroit for the MACC and with the crowd we took to Detroit, Alabama won't be that bad in December. In ToledoRockets usually moronic way, he provides locations for NIU and Toledo game. I doubt this schedule happens though. Akron was screwed with road games to Miami and BUGS this year and I would like to think the league wouldn't do that again. I also don't think they will have us play NIU for a fourth time in three years next year. Toledo is a possibility and probably at Toledo for a Tuesday or Wednesday game. The more logical choice is CMU on the road since they came to Akron last year. Look out for CMU next year! They seem to be getting their ducks in a row.As far as attendance, ToledoRockets once again proves he is a truely stupid person. Akron averaged more than 13,000 this season with a team that at times didn't give the fans much to cheer about. The Zips will do much better next year drawing people to games.Maybe ToledoRockets is stupid from looking up at NIU and Akron for the past few weeks and he is a little dizzy. My advice would be to get used to lookinig up at Akron who you may want to start referring to as Daddy from now on.
  17. There is also a chance that Terry Pluto's hair will grow back........
  18. There is no way on God's green Earth that Toledo is going to move to the Big East. I can't believe Toledo Tom would tell such a lie to his recruits. Where would they play? How would they possibly compete in other sports? It would be a disaster for their program. Can you imagine UCONN rolling in with their basketball program and beating them 100-50 every year?I can't believe I'm about to write this, but the only program in the MAC with existing facilities to be even considered for the Big East would be Ohio. Maybe Ball State.Do schools like Toledo really want to move to the Big East and become a door mat, because that is where that train would head? Toledo couldn't win the MAC this year and the MAC Champion was beaten by an average Conference USA team. Toledo would get killed against the likes of WVU, Louisville and Pittsburgh week in and week out.I love the MAC, but any talk of teams moving up in conference is just laughable. None of the schools have the finances or talent to really move programs to that level.
  19. ToledoRockets did make one good point and that is the average ticket price is up at Toledo because of a small stadium. Supply and demand at work. If Akron builds a 30,000 seat stadium and they sell out, they can raise the ticket price and ask for more money for the foundation for really good seats. More money for the school and program is a good thing.
  20. This board is awesome. For me, it allows me some outlet to be someone other than who I am normally.I'm like rifle, I really don't know much about BB so I just read what others write. ZipsWin! can pick up for me in basketball. He has a well infomed opinion of the sport.Keep up the good work Mods.
  21. Toledo is the program everyone wants to be? Until last season, Marshall was the team in the MAC everyone wanted to be. Now, everyone in the MAC wantst to be Akron.
  22. I agree. Getsy will never play in the NFL. Maybe a tryout, but never with a team. But then again, isn't that bumb Rutheford playing on the Steelers practice team and didn't he play in the exact offense at Pitt?I also agree that Frye will be in the league for a number of years because teams need guys like him and there aren't many around. He will become the league's next Kelly Holcomb. He is the type of guy who can come in and rally a team for a couple of wins a year and keep a team afloat while a starter recovers from injury.Z-P's initial post was not about who is or isn't in the NFL, it was about a comparison of the two players. Apparently, winning is not your top priority and making the NFL after Akron is. Myself, I like to see Akron win and I want winners on the team. Luke has proven himself to be a winner. Everyone should just step back for a minute and think about how much fun it has been the past few weeks and then remind themselves how miserable the years leading up to that were. JD and the coaching staff, Luke, Hixson, Biggs, Kiki, Jay R. et al have proven themselves to have the guts to make this program a winning program. If you are a Browns fan, worry. I'm a Steelers fan and I can tell you first hand that defense that destroyed the Browns Saturday is average at best. That team probably will not beat Cincinnati in the first round of the playoffs. What they did though was serve a lesson to the rest of the NFL on how to stop Frye. Blitz from the corners so he can't run, cover the crap out of the short underneath passes and make him try to throw deep passes with his 10 cent arm and even worse accuracy down field. Good luck Cleveland......you're going to need it.
  23. I think 23 did play himself out of a draft pick. I would be surprised if he made an all star team in January. Missing passes and not catching punts does not impress NFL scouts. As far as Getsy, I think he understands this offense better than Frye did, but he does not have the running ability Frye did. It really hurt Luke mid season when the offensive line couldn't figure out who to block. With a good offensive line next year, look out for Getsy! Getsy was helped by the defense, but he still moved the ball when he had to. They may not have scored every time, but they did pick up first downs with a balanced attack and a very efficient offense. You guys know my opinion of this subject. I'll take a winner any day over an underachiever or a guy who can't win half his games. Luke wins, Frye/Superman (whatever ) didn't. I was at the Browns game Saturday and one of the moronic Browns fans (Do you really have to use the word moronic when referring to Browns fans? Isn't it just assumed?) yelled out after Frye pooped down his leg for about the 20th time, "Go back to Akron!". I immediately felt the need to defend my school, so I yelled out, "No thank you, we don't need him. Four years of losing was enough!". Don't ever say I don't have the best interest of U of A in mind. Not to make excuses for Charlie though because he received enough of that over the years, but it is hard to beat the Steelers when they have home field advantage.

You could have said this about any player on the defense late in the game. Those guys were finished. I'm glad the offense went to the hurry up offense, but the thing about the hurry up is if you score too fast or don't move the ball, the defense is exhausted. Someone said something about team speed. We do need that, but more than anything, we need big players like Memphis had.
  25. If he is placed on IR, can he come back for the playoffs? Heck, I don't know if the Giants are in the playoffs...are they?
