If anyone has access to college academic/athletic journals, this position will be public notice so we will be able to see the requirement. I don't know how to get in touch with them, but the recruiters should have the requirements for the position and since it is a public position, they would be required to provide that information to you. My guess is that it will say something like "Masters Degree preferred" or something along those lines. They could give MW the job on the basis that he gets a Masters. He could get into one of those Mickey Mouse MBA programs like Walsh and Malone Colleges offer where you pay your money, show up one night per week to listen to a local business person speak and at the end of 12 months you basically pay your way to an MBA. It would not take much time from working for the University. Some of the worst business people with MBAs running around NE Ohio have earned Masters in this low manner. They are just money makers for those schools. I, on the other hand, have a Masters Degree from the Harvard of NE Ohio........ The University of Akron.

I don't know if Mike has a Masters or not, but it will make a difference in the interview process. Colleges like to have people in those positions with advanced degrees. As far as the size of his ass, I have not checked that out and I do not plan on doing so in the future. Not that there is anything wrong with checking out the size of his ass, I will just not do so. In all seriousness though, Mike has EARNED the position. He has worked side-by-side with the best AD the University has ever had and at this point, I do not see the need to bring an outsider in. It may not seem like it, but this is a critical time in U of A athletics. To hire an unproven could be a disaster. We KNOW what Mike can do, and he does a good job. We have no idea what another person will do.

How about three quarters short? Two the second half of CMU and the first quarter of BSU.
-
Kiki was a Prop 48, so if he graduates this spring, and he will, he is able to have one more year. The question then becomes, why would a guy who graduated with no shot of the NFL come back for one year? If I'm in his shoes, I use my degree and start my life.

How about 201? I wish I still had the ABJ article from the day after or the following. His words were somewhere along the lines of...they didn't ask me what I though or first.....or something like that. That's close enough. Some of you are really good with Google, maybe you can find it. Just to put this topic to bed, on one of the biggest days in the University's football history, he did not back the school and acted like a spoiled brat. His exact words should have been, "I want to thank Coach Owens for what he did for me. Now that the change has been made, I look forward supporting the school 100% now and in the future." Short of that, he should have kept his mouth shut. Instead, we heard a bunch of . Never once have I EVER heard a player respond the way he did upon a coaches termination. It was completely "bush league all the way". Even worse, it was arrogant. Tie all this into an unimpressive winning percentage, and I hope you all understand where I am coming from. THE END* * The author of this post reserves the right to continue with this top in future discussions if the opportunity presents itself by others.

Mostly true and fair. However, I also have a strong dislike for the type of player who believes an Athletic Director must get his blessing before making a coaching change.

Great posts by ZipsWin! and CK. I bet ZipsWin!'s wife had to run the air conditioner all the way home to keep him from boiling over. CK asked the most important question of all. Can we replace Biggs next year? Unfortunately, the answer is...NO. I think many overlook how important this player has been to this program the past two seasons. Guys like Biggs don't come around very often. Without him, the team does not turn around the 2004 season. Without him, this team is looking at two wins this season (even though I can't really prove it). Biggs has been the combination of strength, heart, mental toughness and hard work this school has not seen since Mike Clark. Yes, I just said it, Biggs is the second best RB in school history. Too bad he only had two seasons here. What does this mean? Unless there is a complete let down around the MAC East next season, Getsy is probably not going to be enough to win the MAC East. Kennedy is not nearly the player he needs to be yet to be the difference maker Biggs is. I think Getsy is as good as he is going to ever get (average to below average with flushes of being good), but that does not mean he still can't win. Without a running game, this offense is screwed. I know it's a team game, but the QB has the ball in his hands every play and MUST make plays and is the one player to most impact winning and losing. I just used that word again...winning, which is a close relative to winner. Looking at the QB triangle, there are three separate and mutually exclusive groups consisting of winners, losers and those with a chance to be either a winner or a loser. The QB must be a winner. Since 1987 (the first year of D-1), in the winners corner is the only player to win anything...Butchie Washington (MAC East Co-Championship). In the losers corner is every other QB since 1987. In the waiting to find out corner is Luke Getsy. He has one more year to become a winner. I hope he does not allow the density created from the volume of losers and the concrete at the Rubber Bowl to suck him into the black hole of losers. Luke, get Han Solo to fix your hyperdrive and speed over to the winners corner before you become just another bad memory. As far as defense, one of the biggest tales told is that defense wins championships. Defense is just the mechanism to get the ball to the offense who must win games. It was fun posting this note. I'm on a conference call, and it gave me something else to do while my phone is on mute and I'm not paying attention.
-
Probably right where we are now. The guy produced less than five wins per year and no MAC East Championships. If we win one more game, and we will against Can't, the production this season will beat the average from the previous four years. The book is closed on that guy, give it up.

Wow! I was out of state all weekend and I only saw the score on the television ticker. The hangover I had from the rehearsal dinner I attended left me rather incapacitated Saturday so I watched TV and recovered prior to the wedding. I'm glad I really couldn't see the game. Had I known what happened, my head would have exploded along with the other parts of my body that were exploding from all of the Mexican food I ate Friday. It sounds from everything I am reading that we did not play four solid quarters. That's too bad, the team still has some growing to do. Three points in the first half of a game is disaster waiting to happen. It's too hard to come from behind and win games. Any chance the two road games in a row had something to do with the slow start? Only 34% of the time do NFL teams playing a second road game in a row win. Again, I didn't see or hear the game so I really can't give much of an opinion. If you are looking for anything positive, it would be that they were at least in position to win at the end event though they fell short. In years past, the team would have given up at half. I'm pretty concerned about the OU game. My brother lives in central Ohio and goes to almost every OU game. He has coached in college in the past and at the D-1 level. My undertanding is that Coach Frank has OU playing way over their heads through hard work on every play. If Akron does not decide to play until the third quarter this week, they will certainly lose. If losers think they can win, there is a chance they can win. Akron must score on OU early and make them think they can't win.

The league is a mystery to me this year. All we know for certain is we will beat Can't.

I know it's WAY early, but here it goes... Christmas in San Diego = Good New Years in Nashville = Good = Tootsies Orchid Lounge Day after Christmas in Detroit = Good, I'd take anything. http://www.collegefootballnews.com/2005/Bo...Projections.htm

Completing a little over 50% of his passes was where we were at the beginning of the season. Most importantly, he did not have an interception. Getsy had an average game Saturday by D-1 QB standards, but that does not matter. All he needs to do is keep the chains moving and not have turnovers. Biggs and an improved offensive line saved us Saturday. I voted for Getsy and I stand by my pick.

Here is why I'm encouraged about the remainder of the season. The Zips showed a lot of heart today. They could have easiy fell apart after that game last week and the slow start today and they did not. While they did not play a great game, the effort was there every play and I think that was lacking last week. This team seems more emotionally tough than in years past. The MAC is so hard to read this year, I have no idea how they will do other than say they will beat Can't. Ball State could be good next week, or they could have shot their wad this week...who knows. OU is scary right now, but let's worry about them when the time comes. Right now this team needs to focus on next week and playing hard every down like they did this week. I'm shocked Biggs had 150 + this week. There were so many one and two yard losses, it must have been rushing and receiving. Anyhow, my favorite Zip did not disappoint this week. Getsy was average again today, but all he needs to be is average when they run so well. Most importantly, he did not have a turnover and the team did not have a turnover. Great job defense. Try to get more three and outs though. I worry too much on those long drives. For those of you who did not go, you missed a great day for college football. Even though I drove myself, it looked like the University did a great job organizing buses to the games and the fans had a great time. God I love going to MAC football games! One last thing. Did anyone listen to the BG post game radio show? If so, did their coach come off as a classless a-hole, or was it me? He complained that the replays did not go their way and was taking the word of his players over the replay screen. Also, he did not give any credit to Akron for playing a good game. I just thought he came off as a jerk. Anyhow, don't forget to fall back tonight. Here's to a Zips win.

Terry Pluto Field - It's only 50 yards long, but that's OK as long as everyone feels good.
-
If true, this is really funny. However, it really doesn't matter because he is an adult and wasn't breaking any crimes. I wish the Zips had a bye week right about now so they could go out and blow off some steam. I think they could use it. I will say this though...Frye's appearance obviously left the stench of mediocrity on the Zips and they have not been able to wash it off since. It's like getting sprayed by a skunk. They were fine up until that point. Someone please order a truckload of tomato juice and fill the pool at the Rec. Center with it so the boys can wash off the stench.
-
I always though it was, "see which one fills up first".
-
It looks like you will need a booster chair.
-
I feel much better about this issue today. The only thing I disagree with Pluto about is the size of the new stadium. We have to be able to fit at least 25,000 into the field for games such as Can't. Maybe 20,000 seats with a hillside like Virginia or even OU would be a nice thing to have.
-
I agree with this and I posted this recommendation last Sunday. I would not start the game with it, but if we continue to be sluggish, it is worth a shot.
-
Excellent points DrZ. Everyone is still missing what happened to the Zips last Saturday. We were beat in an NFL manner by an NFL coach. Here is how you win an NFL game. Control the field position, score first, take away the other team's best player (ours is Biggs), pressure the QB that must throw and run the clock out on a tired defense. Last week, we lost to Army's punter and their second all time rushing back who ran on a tired defense late. I'm not saying Getsy played well Saturday....he had his worst game of the year. There are many more problems in addition to him. I think not having a bye week is killing this team right now. They look exhausted and a week off could do them some good. Breaking routine is good for the human psyche and they could use one.

Man does this thread remind me of the bad old days. I'll say it again, it can always get worse. I remember the bench Andy Kubik comments. We did and put in a guy named Mark Unitis to start against Louisville in 1987 and he was worse. I remember the bench Jeff Sweitzer days. We did and played Weems a little and he was worse. Be careful of what you wish for guys.

Easy CK. If you keep going on like this, you could overtake me for the most bitter person on the site.
-
I've seen Pope. Cocky guy, predicting touchdowns like this? I hope we cream him. CK, this is a great post! I can't believe nobody has commented on it yet. Check out the bling on that guy. I've never seen a more humorless group of people than the posters on this site.

I had to laugh out loud when I saw this quote. ITZ, you must be in graduate school after your playing days, because anyone who has ever worked a job after college would give their left nut to only have to go to football practice, lift some weights, watch film like they are paying attention and play a game on the weekend. I had a friend in college who worked his way through UA as a night janitor at a junior high school on South Main Street. His nights consisted of cleaning everything in the school from the floors to the boxes full of used tampons in the girls restrooms. He took a full schedule and graduated with an Accounting degree in four years while living off of pasta and cigarettes. Now he's a controller for Sherwin Williams. How were those prepared meals for you in Robs? You can try to full some of the people on this site like they don't know any better, but some of us can see right through the "look how hard the athletes have it" argument. It wasn't all that tough.

I would like to propose a ZipsNation.org table for this event. It's probably $10 per person if you get a "corporate" table. Any suggestions from the board organizers how we could put this together?
