  1. Amen. Want to know how we measure against them? Play them every year whether mandated by the Conference or not. It's a school very similar to Akron so if we can win, great. If we can win and get a look every other year at how a school like ours is capable of a good game day experience, even better. If we lose, we get to gauge where we can get better. There isn't much to learn about your program getting destroyed by a P5 school twice a year. The Sun Belt figured this out.
  2. Of everything you mentioned, this is the worst. It's inexcusable. Many of these people are from organizations that support the school financially. Some support individually. This is extremely poor community recognition. Remember, the athletic department should support five areas with the general Akron community being one of them. Recognize those who support you.
  3. They may, but since half of all players in the portal never play again, there is a pretty full river of players to pick from. I like recruits who have won in high school or were on winning college programs. I'd like to see a QB from a winning program transfer in. Akron isn't just a talent change, but a cultural change.
  4. First, fantastic post. I'm in the Joe camp. I will say though, personnel is more than just being dealt cards. Recruiting at least allows a coach to determine which cards get dealt. I'll forgive Joe for his first recruiting class not having "his guy" at QB, but not the second. He has a huge name and should have brought someone in from the transfer portal after last year. There is something really wrong if he cannot get the QB situation fixed this off season. The rest of the deck is stacked in his favor.
  5. You are correct. The rules are designed to make teams pass. Therefore, you need a really good passer who "can make all the throws". We don't currently have one. I don't worry about the future because the QB problem can be solved with one good trip into transfer portal this off season. If not, worry.......
  6. My favorite column starts with a"W".
  7. Akron could be 4&1 with a better QB and a kicker who could make a FG three yards longer than an extra point.
  8. I don't think it's unpopular at all. If less than 10 plays go a different direction, the Zips are 4-1 and tied for first place in the division. The MAC isn't a hard place to win. We just seem to make it impossible.
  9. Want some perspective on how ineffective the Zips passing game was yesterday? In each of their last games, Army, Navy and Air Force have thrown TD passes for longer yardage than the Zips longest pass yesterday.
  10. You're right. It is. Temple, the Zips missed receivers for scores down field on more than one occasion. Better player execution and we win. Indiana, missed easy FG to win the game. Better player execution and we win. Yesterday, a couple of missed throws down field and a costly penalty sustaining UBs only TD drive in regulation. U mistakes Captain Kangaroo in his Matt Cherry jersey in Lot 9 for an actual player instead of running for a few more yards making a FG easier. Better player execution and we win. Everyone getting it? If you put players in position to be successful during a game and they botch those opportunities, who is at fault? Player liability is why NFL players get cut mid season. Remember, we are not talking about pee wee football. We're talking about major college football. Major college when the players are getting everything they want including money. Don't be so easy on them. Between the botched execution and sheer stupidity, I don't know how they win another game.
  11. The Zips had better be able to complete a pass for more than 17 yards for this to be effective. I quickly looked this up. Over half of MAC teams yesterday had a scoring pass longer than our longest pass. When opportunities present themselves, teams have to take advantage. Akron doesn't.
  12. Other than wanting to be closer to family in western PA, naybe Joe isn't a fan of Cuban food.
  13. These are the words that got Jim Grobe fired at Wake Forest.
  14. I didn't know this. It's alarming. VA Tech is a horrible, losing program and he couldn't play there? Let's bring in a QB from a winning program.
  15. We're you watching game while running the marathon?
  16. College football is in the process of realignment into new divisions but most fans don't see it. We need stay where we are. Ideally we could make changes with the rest of the MAC and G5 conferences, but the people who run those conferences are too stupid to see what's happening to their employers.
  17. I'm not a fan of crybabies.
  18. Trust me... you don't want to see it.
  19. Agreed.
  20. Eli Manning once described how you know when an offense is in sync during a game. Basically, the offense can get a first down on any down. That's when you're killing the defense. I'd be interested to know how Akron measures under this standard. We're always fight for third down first downs.
  21. Agree. They also need to make his early game touches more productive. When we use our RBs, the production needs to be consistent throughout the game.
  22. We should be 4-1 and in first place in the division with enough opportunity in front of us to make the day after Thanksgiving game meaningful. Instead, here we go again......
  23. Since when? He has an inaccurate rubber arm.
  24. I don't see the ball getting close enough to their hands in big play opportunities for them to catch.
  25. I still can't believe they lost. Buffalo is a terrible MAC team. Between the Zips and the marathoners, there's a lot of crap to clean out of athletic gear this afternoon.
