g-mann17
So after 2 games (against the #12 team in the nation and a BCS school) we have...42-62 for 487 yds 5 td 1 int Can we all agree that he has improved quite a bit in his decision making? Big Zip
No --I'm still not convinced it was Jacq and it wasn't the terrible offensive play calling and the way he was jerked around last year competing against an option quarterback that couldn't throw worth a lick. We saw this is kind of play last year in small doses. Maybe we aren't actually seeing what he was capable of last year if the play calling was better. I don't want to beat a dead horse, but I saw the kid play in high school and the kid we've seen the last two weeks is closer to that one. If he can keep this up, he will have a fantastic season and will surpass all of my expectations. At least for the first time in his UA career, he should have some confidence. Zipsrifle
I sure hope that the last two performances are an indication of what we can expect in the future. CJ11 should have a TON of confidence right now. He looked great IMO!
johnnyzip84
It is obvious that JD was NOT talking BS when he emphasized Jack's progress through-out the off-season and into camp. BUT, let's also not forget the generally much improved O-line play. Jack can't have confidence in himself unless he has confidence in them and it's evident that he is VERY comfortable setting up behind these guys. zips4ever2008
He has improved from last year. Last year was just insane with running a two-qb system. It works for some schools like Florida but not others. CJ does look comfortable running the offense and I think that has to do with him being the guy. He's waited his turn and now he can run the offense. The o-line does seem better, we have some good running backs and young talented receivers. Obviously it's important for CJ and the whole team to play well in MAC play. They'll have their first go against a MAC team versus Ball State. That should be a very interesting game. ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net
He sure as hell looks good out there. I was at the game yesterday and he is confident, quick, strong-armed. I can't believe this is the same kid we saw last year. I'm impressed so far. SeeTee
Blue & Gold
YES! ABSOLUTELY YES! And I was one of biggest nay-sayers on the board - thinking that JD was blowing smoke always commenting on how much Jac had improved this off-season. JD was ABSOLUTELY right! Jac's looking magnificent! That's a winning D-1 QB right there!!! (Truth be known, though, after last year's showing I've still got my fingers crossed that he keeps up his excellent play all-year-long.) ZippyAlum
The two quarterback system last year divided the team; some wanted one and others wanted the other. With a clear starter this year there is more cohesion among the players. The chemistry seems great! I'm even hopeful that there will be no disciplinary benchings this year. While I think the play calling has been much better, I thought it was horrible in the third quarter. Maybe all the runs up the middle were setting up the passes in the forth quarter. I hope we weren't just sitting on our lead. I don't like it when we get conservative. We need to play full out every minute. I was screaming for a pass to Poindexter. I have to admit it came at a great time but only one throw to a tight-end, captain, and great athlete is not enough. (I think he's a captain?)I also worry about a let down this week. The guys are probably saying, "ha-ha, we're not as bad as people thought." I have always believed that this team has the potential to be great because they play as a team and there are no superstars. After two games we're definitely seeing some stars emerge but I hope they keep their heads on straight and realize that we haven't won anything yet. If we can keep getting better, get healthy, and keep our heads together we can..... I won't even say it. One game at a time. Beat Ball State! (I think he's a captain?)Merce DID have a ball thrown his way early in the game (1st quarter I think) and it bounced of his hands and was nearly picked off. But I do agree that he is a weapon that needs to be used more, since he is (as you stated) a team leader and a fine athlete. Although it's pretty cool that he already has 1 TD in each game so far. Now THAT'S efficiency!
Lee Adams
CJ will only be able to MANAGE a game...he has to have a good ground game which we had on Saturday(was at the 'DOME) and good receivers and plenty of time to throw...he doesn't WANT to run even when he should and locks on 1 receiver...he is better when he doesn't need to think...reacts...throws quickly...no I'm not CONVINCED....TESTICLE TECH will be the real test...they are head and shoulders beyond the 'cuse athletically and will force CJ to 'win' the game...the O-LINE needs to be over the top this week...
