Ashland LosesSince we always have to read about when things go well for Owens on this board, I thought I might post this article. It sort of reminds me of an old saying, "Always a bridesmaid and never a bride." I really don't wish the guy ill, he is where he belongs.

It's interesting that you bring up LO, because in the last few weeks this year's Zips have morphed into a classic LO team (the decent ones at that).....an offense that can move the ball and score against virtually anybody and a defense that still somehow manages to give up even more points, particularly when the game is on the line.

It's interesting that our resident JD apologist should bring up Lee Owens losing this past weekend. In case you didn't notice, that loss was in the second round of the D2 playoffs, making Ashland one of the top 16 D2 programs in the country out of over 200. When Lee Owens took over at Ashland, they were God-awful. What he's done there, transforming a cellar dwellar into a national power in 5 years, is actually pretty amazing. Contrast that with what JD has done in his tenure in terms of improving the program, and well, I guess you can see where I'm going with this...You taking a shot at Lee Owens for having a top 16 team while you defend a guy who can't beat a MAC cupcake is laughable.

Here's a difference though. My dad graduated from Ashland, played football there, was named as one of 24 players to their first 50 years of football "dream team" and is inducted in their athletic hall of fame and even he didn't know they lost today. He was vaguely aware that they were playing but didn't pay much attention to it. Huge difference between the level of interest and degree of difficulty between D-I and D-II.

Substitute "Akron" for "Ashland" and the story is just as believable. Sadly, there's a lot of D2 programs that garner as much or more interest from their alumni and community than most MAC programs.
