RACER Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 i was not aware that a.jones was going to be back next year.jd needs to move him back to defense.we have enough wr for next year.this would be the first move in building our defense back.if we can get bain on the field with jones back at dbthings could start to turn around.i am not saying he is not a good wr,but giving 400 yds/game has to stop. skip-zip Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 Racer...in case you were unaware, Andre was an All-MAC selection at wide receiver this year. Would you really think it's likely that he'd move again? This was a brilliant move by JD to identify him as being someone who could help an offense that had struggled in 2007, and needed tons of help at WR. And on top of that, wouldn't you admit that he was the only guy who you could depend upon to consistently hold onto a pass this year?Anyway...unlikely that he'd move again. Quote
72 Roo Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 Skip, you may be right, but I think Racer makes a good point. The D has to do its job. Jones gives us instant experience and talent to boot. While I agree he is a great receiver with the best hands on the team, you have to consider the great need to put a defense out that can stop anyone. We will need that if we are going to win the MAC. I would give his suggestion serious consideration. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 Were recruiting tons of receivers this year. We only need one to step up in order to allow Jones to move back to defense. Quote
Zippysgotagun Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 What about having him play both sides of the ball? He'd obviously have to do one a lot more than the other, but I think it could work. Quote
skip-zip Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 Roo 72...I wouldn't dispute the fact that he could help our defense again, I'm merely thinking about the idea of switching him back and forth in consecutive seasons....especially after he's now established himself as one of the leagues top receivers. zippysgotagun...I was wondering the same thing last year. Could Andre have switched back to defense at times to help us? Seems to me like he could possibly play a Deon Sanders role on this team. But, someone could also make an argument that the safeties were not where our problems were last year. I think the bulk of our problems lie in our inability to make tackles for short gains in the interior part of our defense. Quote
Dr Z Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 Stay on offense, his talent will be lost on our defense (see B Will). Don't underestimate his ability (and importance) to stretch the field at WR. Quote
gozips19 Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 you could have had prime time, night train lane, ronnie lott, and woodson back there and they still would have gotten toasted with the lack of pass rush. the secondary is fine. the front seven needs to get to the qb or it will turn into a touch football game with the linemen counting to 10 mississippi before doing anything. Dr Z Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 the front seven needs to get to the qb...so hard to resist....aahhhhh.... I think I know my new years resolution.PS I agree with you gz19 Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 I think Andre was slowed from that injury (ankle?) during the 2nd half of the season more than we (at least I) may have realized at the time. If that was indeed the case, I believe he'll come back even better next year than what he showed early in the season against 'Cuse, Army, etc. With Bowser back as well, these guys should be the dynamic duo in 2009. gozips19 Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 looks like i needs to check my grammar.....thanks for keeping me on my toes z! Quote
