Simply a conversation starter here...nothing implied or suggested. Just curious what everyone thinks. Do you think that the UA athletic department would do something such as what has been done with Jeff Jagodzinski with the coach of a successful program such as mens' basketball or mens' soccer?
If memory serves (and perhaps this goes to show how short some memories are, or how little attention is paid to anything outside American football and men's basketball), this has already been done -- but instead of a coach, it was done with student-players. Wahine Zip basketball coach Jody Kest decided that some unwritten and unspoken law was broken when some of her players approached coaches from other schools for a fall-back position, and as George Costanza would say, yada, yada and the next thing you know nearly the entire starting undergrad lineup is playing for other schools, like West Virginia Wesleyan (including arguably the best recruit in school history, a former Miss W Va basketball). IMHO, this attitude on the part of university officials is not just arrogant, but threatens the legal standing of their institutions. University employees and students are covered by the same constitutional provisions of free communication and free association as all other citizens. Contract law notwithstanding. What does the esteemed future councilor Mr Razor think of this? :D

Seems like the women's hoops team is flourishing since the departure of "the best recruit in school history, a former Miss W Va basketball?" Maybe said departed female player was more similar to former Zips men's recruit and former Ohio HS Mr. Basketball Emmanuel Smith than some would like to admit?BTW - The Zips women's team just picked up a road win vs. a previously 11-4 Lehigh squad a few days ago to go along with their Michigan win (plus a few others). Thus far the departures from last years squad seem to be addition by subtraction?

Damn if you didn't convince me with your reasoning, Cap'n. In fact, this logic is so sterling that I just called up Keith Dambrot and requested that he toss Humpty, Stewart, Bardo, B McKnight and McNees off the team. I expect that will signal the need for improved team unity which leads to an undefeated MAC season.Kangaroo for AD! :P

Contracts for coaches mean nothing anymore it seems. A team can fire a coach any time, and a coach can bolt for a new team at any time. I think all coaches should just sign one year deals every season. And yes, I realize how ridiculous that sounds, but I'm not joking.Props to BC for what they did.

I am sorry i can't be as axcited as you are for a 5-8 team.
Hey, it is progress. 5 wins is a season's worth for women's Zips basketball teams of the past decade. To have 5 after 13 games is nearly cause for a ticker-tape parade on Buchtel ave.It will be interesting to see how they do in conference play. If Kest can hit double-digit wins this season, it would be monumental (on the scale of Zips women's basketball).

Captain Kangaroo,Is there any truth to the rumor that if Kest had a horrible season again this year, Bill Cowher was going to be hired as the next WBB coach?

As long as he didn't have to play in Cleveland.

After a loss to Miami the Lady Zips took the measure of Buffalo. A conference win and a reason to hope that this team is on its way up. Go Zips. :thumb::rock:  :thumb:
