The Hip Zip
What a joke, If this is true why not just bust up this conference right now. How the Mac hierarchy could make such a bush league move is way beyond me. What's next? Zippy get turned away at the door? This move speaks volumes of just how far this conference has sunk and is an unjust slap in the face to the students involved and the players and fans as well.Perhaps nobody here cares much, but if this is true it really pisses me off. zipsbandman
Does anybody go to the opening round games anyway?
The Hip Zip
Does anybody go to the opening round games anyway? They will this year with the Zips and Flushes playing. They should get a lot more than the 5,000 + they got the last two years. Although moves like this seem to beg for indifference
GoZips88
My son and I are going today but I'm not happy at all about it. Take care of business, I keep a chunk of change in my pocket, and don't have to show up at The Q until Thursday. No pep bands today? Fits right in with no rushing the floor at the end of the final game and sticking students way up in the nose bleed seats. Way to create that special college basketball atmosphere ... the MAC just sucks.
Captain Kangaroo
These games should all be played at home sites anyhow. Moving "play-in" games to The Q was an expensive, stupid idea. The real MAC Tourney begins Thursday.

The real MAC Tourney begins Thursday.I completely agree with that. It cost the league big bucks in attendance alone. Instead of getting a gate of 3,000- 5,000 x 4 they have drawn just above 5,000 the first two years. When you add in the expenses involved it just does not make sense. Zip Watcher
I take the boy out of school (pre-school) to go to the early games today. That gets his fix .. and I don't have to burn a half court seat on the weekend for a kid who will get tired and not get it completely. It's totally low key & easy to get a good seat. I'll enjoy today. For those of us who've been buying the MAC PAC tickets to go to the whole tournament for 10 years, today is free basketball.FYI GoZips88 .. if you don't mind sitting away from the other Zips fans, you don't need to pay more than $5 each for your tickets .. they should be readily available on the street .. last year, I was able to pickup 3 or 4 extras for $10 total when I went down.Cost shouldn't really an issue for the fans today. Now, having to explain to my boy why the "guy with a basketball for a head" (CMU "mascot") isn't there .. now that may take some effort for me today. meatwad
Now, having to explain to my boy why the "guy with a basketball for a head" (CMU "mascot") isn't there .. now that may take some effort for me today.I love that thing. I'm just curious what the mascot is for other sports such as golf or football. Does that thing change is head based on the season?Gotta love being PC and not being allowed to have a mascot match up to your nickname. RootforRoo44
Does anybody go to the opening round games anyway?I have not missed an opening round game since before i could legally drive even if the Zips werent playing. I made a fake doctors note to go to these games. I'm leaving in 2 minutes so for anyone who wants to tailgate today, i have a small group under the LBJ billboard in the Tower City parking lot. This is the 10th stupid thing the MAC has done this week however.

Definitely planning to give "the street" a try before heading to the box office and forking over $17 apiece.

That's a great opportunity to take the little guy to a big venue. Hope you like walking in circles around the concourse (at least that's what my son was into a couple years ago)! bandzip
Our director told us that the MAC decided not to have pep bands in the first round to try and save money for the individual schools. The idea is that some of the schools won't have to get hotels for the cheerleaders and pep band for one game. It's really pointless for schools like us and Can't though. We just hop on a bus with the cheerleaders and dance team, drive to Cleveland before the game and come home when it's over. If we win, we do it again the next day. One bus can't possibly cost that much...
ZippyTuba11
That, and it means a lot more people have to get pulled out of class, which by rule, Deans hate to see.
MDZip
Just another good argument for keeping the first round games on campus. Of course no matter what, it helps us so I'm fine with keeping it the way it is.
MDZip
Don't get too complacent, Zips. Depaul (0-18 Big East) knocks off Cincinnati in the first round of the Big East tournament.
