Time is running out if you haven't booked yet to go to Portland. What Nation faithful will be able to swing the expense and the time commitment of this trip?I will start out by saying that I have waited (Literally) my whole life for this. I'm so there.Edit: of course for some reason I can't spell "roll call" but you get the idea...

i have a free flight but i can only fly into seattle. It's a bit of a drive after that, as a college student it's just a little too much money to go. I am willing to take sponsors if any companies want to dress me up in their logo. Hell ill look like a NASCAR car if that's what it took.

RootforRooI'm also flying into Seattle. Rental car from Budget Rental can get you a pretty good deal. The 3 hour drive down to Portland will be fun.

I'll be there. Flying in with the band along with 30 other people. (Not sure if that counts or not.)
It totally counts. It's up to the band to be what is effectively a student section on the road. Give them everything you've got.

Unfortunately .. and this REALLY sucks .. I'm unable to make this trip work.Too many variables conspiring against me here at home / work. Probably without any one of them, I'd likely be there .. and probably with the family in tow .. but it just isn't going to happen this week. Now, NEXT week, after wins over Gonzaga and WKU .. I WILL see all of you in Memphis. B) B) B) B) Have a great time everyone. We did when traveling to Alaska and UMass last season .. and this will be more of the same, with even greater stakes.Go Zips!! B) B) B):champs: :champs: :champs:

Just found out about ten minutes ago that the band is meeting on campus at 4:30 am tomorrow (Tuesday) for a 7:00 am flight out of Akron/Canton Airport on a charter jet. I would assume we're traveling with the team. I live about an hour away from Akron so I'm going to hurry up and pack and catch a little sleep before leaving at 3 am tomorrow. I now some people who couldn't make the trip wanted to meet to send off the team so I hope this helps a little.

We will be driving, then flying, then driving again...All four of us...
If there was ever a fan that has earned this trip, it is ZipsWin! I'm glad to see you are going.

So Akron is flying its band to Portland, but OU couldn't afford to send its band to Cleveland!!! So much for the snobkittens!

That's not only a reflection on OU's budget problems but their administration's disinterest in athletics. As far as athletic funding goes, Akron and OU and heading in two very different directions.

For those of you traveling to the Pacific Northwest for the first time, you're in for a real treat. Make some time to take in the lush scenery Portland has to offer! It is beautiful.Have a fun and safe trip all!

Count me in. The ticket office promised me a ticket. That's scary since they twice messed upduring the MAC Tourney.I plan to head for Seattle early Thursday. Arriving around 11 AM their time. Getting a car anddriving down. Will take riders or ride with some one if possible.I would like to stay at the same hotel as the team. Is it the DoubleTree?I plan to return Sunday, but will try to come home earlier if we lose.Leave a message on this thread if you are heading to Seattle.

I would say that their current president is the worst thing that has ever happened to their school (im sure many OU students/alumni would agree).I would also say that our current president is one of the best things that has ever happened to our school. So two different directions yes, but dont think that Richard Suk and John Groce are going to just sit back and let that happen again next year. Their band is one of their only winning programs in terms of athletics and Groce spent too many years at places like Butler and Ohio State to allow his program to be put on the back burner. They have good attendence at basketball games for being in the middle of no where, a pretty darn nice arena, and a beautiful campus to draw recruits with. There is no reason that what happened should have happened other than the fact that people in that administration just mishandled funds and/or have no care for athletics. And I'm sure the Alumni they angered this year will change that real fast.

I'm pretty sure the NCAA pays to send the bands and cheerleaders/dance team during the tournament but I could be wrong. Akron also doesn't have the expense of housing for the spirit groups during the MAC tournament, we just drive up before the game and home right after. Don't get me wrong, it's ridiculous that OU wouldn't shell out the money to send the band when every other school in the MAC planned on it. Having the other band playing and cheerleaders on the floor during every little break had to make OU feel like they were at an away game.

I know the band is staying at the Doubletree so I would assume the team is as well. It would seem odd for the band to stay in a Hilton while the team stays at a Days Inn or something. Here's a link to the hotel site:Doubletree Hotel Portland

WOOT!!!I'm there pending the ticket office's phone call. I'm flying in Thursday morning and flying out red-eye Tuesday night $400. My dad's picking me up, and I'll be staying at home down in Salem. Haven't been home since last spring break. Too many stars aligned themselves for me to ignore.
