Zip Watcher
You know, I don't think I realized how divided NE Ohio is w/r to college BB until recently. Call me blind, but the ABJ did a hell of a job playing up the Zips this week while you wouldn't even know Akron was in the Tourney by reading the PD. I'm really beginning to think that the people in Cleveland are out to squash anything good in Akron. The CSU fans hate us because we are a threat to their local BB superiority (I would love to play them to settle that score). The OSU fans I think are starting to get bitter with all these NE Ohio teams going to the Tourney every year (Can't State, UA, CSU). I think this "bias" will be something that puts a damper on drastic increases in attendance next year. In terms of fans, I would expect a small jump in attendance next season at the beginning of the year. If I remember correctly, football season tickets spiked the year after we won the MAC, I'm thinking BB will be the same way. I also agree that as this team continues to improve, we need to schedule tougher. Bottom line is that KD seems to have a knack for building this program and that is what we need to do to put more butts in the seats.I couldn't disagree more about the PD. I felt like the MACC coverage was first rate. The Toledo win took more front page space than CSU's win @ Hinkle on the same night. The PD didn't send Elton to Portland, but there were stories, sometimes 2 a day (Livingston), and they had Daryl's diary.I get the PD, not the ABJ and I'd say I was pretty happy with the coverage. I'm one of those people who read everything online and is putting the newspapers out of buisness. I simply felt that the MACC coverage came across as a necessary burden for the PD because it was being played in Cleveland. Also, I thought the writers didn't have a clue about the MAC. I mean, someone said that they didn't think Linhart deserved the MVP. That statement right there, in my mind, underscores how little these guys understand the teams. Sure, looking at the numbers, Nate didn't have the best, but I think his leadership of the younger players and his hustle and style of play was a big reason the Zips went as far as they did.BTW, good win by CSU last night. Always glad to see an upset. Man I would love to play those guys.

Jalapeño Zippy
I bet a guy $20.00 that the Zips' JAR attendance will go from 2.9k to 3.7k next season. KD has done his part on the court. Boals and staff have set the table with great recruits. To get to 3.7k Mack and McFadden now need to get an attention-grabbing schedule. The Zips also need to get off to a good start in 2009-10 and capitalize on the excitement that will surround the program this fall.KD and Company have made progress every season. We need to keep progressing. We need to knock off a Top 25 team. We need to win an NCAA tourney game. Expectations will be justifiably high for 2009-10. We need to meet them!Joe Akron is ready to erupt.Hopefully you didn't bet anyone in the athletic department, cause they will jack up prices for everyone to make that $20.00. Captain Kangaroo
Hopefully you didn't bet anyone in the athletic department, cause they will jack up prices for everyone to make that $20.00.Prices can rise a little for 2010. I'm ok with that. As long as the home OOC schedule is upgraded. It will be interesting to see which direction the Zips OOC schedule goes in 2010 -Cup Cake City - Play a bunch of sorry teams and begin the season 12-1. Huggins did this in 1986-7.Saint Mary's - Play a bunch of high-mid-majors (like MVC's) and low majors (like BCS schools presently in the NIT, or low seed NCAA's) and begin the season 7-5, but with a couple marquee wins. It's time for the Zips to schedule/upset some Top 25 teams...CSU did it 3 times this year. This MAC title, an "attention-grabbing" schedule, and some early success next season should increase attendance.
WinZip
Bring in some nice competition with a little spice...and did I mention win, that'll keep the fans coming back. Good atmosphere and a little friendly tension never hurt anyone. I'm expecting slightly larger crowds next season. I'm expecting some nice energy going into next year: with a great returning team and the possibility that Zeke can contribute a little ( ). I'm really crossing my fingers too that the JAR gets a little bit of a touch-up. My predicted avg. attendance: 3,
geno
Akron just seems non-supportive not matter what we have. Never filled the joint in Huggins days either on a consistent basis. Still think back to some of the great battles when the place was packed for the OVC Championship Game and I remember Kevin Mackey coming in with his CSU team with Mouse McFadden. Also remember some great crowds for Can't State games. Those were exciting times, but just not enough of them. Its a shame, with us being the only College Show in town, and the great product we've put on the court for the last five years. Not sure if a new arena would help, as I'm not convinced after this year that the new stadium won't show similar attendance that the Rubber Bowl got. Would like the see the Jar remodeled and the upper seats moved closer to the action, but not sure thats in the offing.Need to keep winning, get the coverage, and maybe something will click. Zipsrifle
Just keep winning is it. I was thinking the other day about how KD is going about this thing. I really have to say I'm very, very impressed with how he's building this program. There were many times I thought he should do things differently, but there is a reason why I'm not a D-IA BB coach (mainly because I don't know squat about BB). I also think that KD is in Akron for the long haul. I think it would take an offer from a pretty big school to get him out of Akron. No TCU for him! I'm really excited about the BB program right now....he's doing a great job!
skip-zip
Zips_ME87.......hang on there just a minute. If you point out that CSU upgraded their OOC schedule, it payed nice dividends for them, they game themselves a chance at an at-large bid, and that the guys on KNR were talking about the value of taking that risk on their show this morning, and that they won a couple of those game and benefittted themselves......You will be accused of "glamorizing" what CSU accomplished this year.
