scottditzen
In my opinion this is a good scenario. Let the staff and University work out all the kinks re: a brand new stadium vs. Morgan State and be 100 percent ready to roll when big name opponent Indiana comes to town. Plus, that gives us another warm weather game with guaranteed attendance. On the flip side, sure, historically speaking it is much nicer to put Akron-Kentucky or Akron-Indiana on a commerative plate or poster or whatever. But I can't wait to check the webcam and see green turf instead of contractor trucks!!!
ZippyRulz
I like the fact that when we play IU we will have a game under our belt in the new stadium and some of the opening-day drama will be over so we can focus on the Whosiers. The first game in the new environment might be a little distracting, especially with no airplanes taking off and landing nearby Where will the Rowdies be stationed, in the student section or an end zone? The traffic/parking/tailgating scene is going to be utter chaos at first. akronad
The first Akron Citry Series game will be on Friday, 9/25. The university does not want any games played there prior to the opener.
Blue & Gold
...Delaware State or a team along those lines I think it'd have been more exciting. You gotta tell me how a game against Delaware State is more exciting than one against Morgan State.Any state university that's actually a state! WinZip
I would have liked to brag about the top-notch football teams coming to play Akron this year. Might have to bite my tongue when I invite friends to this one.Would have much rather had a close, hard fought, memorable win. I suppose I will be happy with just a win, however. Zipsrifle
I'm pretty pissed about this actually. I mean, we've talked on here about doing things in such a manner that we act "Big Time". Though this is the way most "Big Time" programs start the season, with a cup cake game, this is a complete waste of a once in a lifetime event for a Zips fan. F the "dry run" and the "First Game at our new diggs" crap. We finally got a Big Ten school to play at our house AND it was the first game in our new stadium. BIG game on top of BIG story here and you get BIGTIME excitement for everyone in Akron on Sept. 19th. That is what people are going to be talking about for years! Now we go and blow it with by scheduling a school that I didn't even know existed!?!?! What a load of crap! I saw the game on Sept. 19 as the point where stopped acting like some rag tag group of bumbling idiots and started acting like we know what we're doing. I guess we're just a rag tag group of bumbling idiots with a lot of debt and a shiny new stadium!
xu9697
I'm going to wait until the entire schedule is out until I pass too much judgement. Hopefully this means 2 home Saturday games in September and October (5 Saturdays in October) and whatever they stick us with in November. I will feel much better about my season tix purchase if I get 4 Saturday home games before the calendar says November!
zippy5
what would you guys rather do? go on the road so we can open up with indiana? 5 home games when we have a beautiful new stadium? enjoy it, one more home game, 1 more easy win, and a lot of beers in the parking lot! xu9697
Another positive:Playing Morgan State (and hopefully getting an easy win) allows the fans to see all the bells & whistles and walk around BEFORE the Indiana game. With Kellen Lewis and the Hoosiers coming in, the game will definitely be worth watching. Wander during Morgan StateSit (or stand) in your seats for Indiana
