Very dangerous with his arms and feet. Overall, recruiting is going great. The stadium is wowing the HS kids. Hence two verbals in APRIL! Quote
ZachTheZip Posted April 24, 2009 Report Posted April 24, 2009 Overall, recruiting is going great. The stadium is wowing the HS kids. Hence two verbals in APRIL!You think it's wowing kids now, just wait until they actually start playing games there on Fridays. The kids will be blown away, and the parents will finally be forced to see that UA has transformed its campus. Quote
Blue & Gold Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 Have we ever had 2 verbals in April before?! I honestly don't ever remember us getting a single verbal this early, let alone two! Quote
GJGood Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 Short Potts ArticleI really like this commitment, I have always thought there is a lot of talent that seems to slip through the cracks to FCS or lower division schools because the prospect is coming out of a very small, and often rural, and much unseen, high school. A dual threat guy at QB that has led winning teams might be just what the offense needs for the incoming class of 2010 as it may provide options for the coaches and an interesting competition for the QBs that will already be on the roster at that point. Quickzips Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 What exactly is the big deal with us getting commits in April? I quite frankly couldn't give less of a crap about when we get the commitment. I care about if the kid can play or not. Would you guys rather have 10 commits in April who will never be more than bench fodder or 5 quality starters who commit in January? Verbals in April don't mean that much. Letters of intent in February mean a lot. Quote
zipdiehard Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 I believe it is all in the perception. Recruits don't normally commit to "smaller" schools as they are waiting to see what bigger schools are doing. UA getting commits early like the "big boys" can give off the vibe that it might be a place to check out. You can't tell me that recruits don't scan the recruiting sites and take notice of what schools are on other recruits lists. I highly doubt the coaches believe these kids are bench players. More than likely they are kids with huge upside that the big schools won't take notice of until the start having a big senior year. Quote

If Toledo (as an example) was hot after this kid, you know they're going to cool their jets a bit and focus elsewhere now that he's verbaled to UA. Might they still call him? Sure. But he's dropped in priority big-time.It is a very positive sign that kids are verbaling this early to UA. It is unprecedented. In the past we were lucky to have a single verbal by July. Going a step further - I know the coaches upped the level of recruit they were pursuing in response to last season's successful effort + the attractiveness of the new stadium. To pursue a better-caliber athlete, and get them to commit months prior to past history, is an excellent barometer to how this upcoming class is going to stack up. Quote

Captain Kangaroo Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 whats the word on this kid he is going to be a QB or a different positionHe will get his shot at QB. Guys with his skill-set typically do great in the MAC, and I know the staff is very high on him. If it turns out he's not the #1 QB, it appears his athleticism will afford him the opportunity to see the field at another position. Nick Sparks was a great QB, but switched to WR because he was behind Frye. Jabari Arthur was behind Luke Getsey and switched to WR. Jeff Sweitzer returned punts for two seasons before taking over for Marcel Weems at QB. Jon Eaton was a HS QB who played Safety for the Zips. Who knows what will ultimately happen? But if he really is like Edelmann...I want him under center! Quote
