Frye To The Browns

This is a perfect situation for him. He gets to learn behind Trent Dilfer, a guy who has a super bowl ring and only wins everywhere he has been. The Browns are now loaded at all of the offensive skill positions. At WR they have Braylon Edwards, Andre Davis, Dennis Northcutt, The Kid from Pitt whose name escapes me at the moment (He's probably the #2 receiver). At TE - K2, another potential all pro. At RB - Suggs, Droughns, and Green - All solid backs. They also upgraded their OL in free agency by adding Cosey Coleman and Joe Adruzzi to complement Verba, Tucker, and Faine. This is a much better situation than the one that Tim Couch had. and definitely better than what Alex Smith is going to have. Plus, I think he'll love playing for Romeo Crennel who is loved by his players and does not have an inflated ego like Botch Davis. In two or three years he'll take over for Dilfer and begin his hall of fame carreer. :D

Perhapsthe Browns are now goring to live up to their namesake Paul, not Mike.

If Dilfer stays healthy read uninjured, he can teach #5 how to win, becaause Dilfer is a WINNER, loads of good wishes, Charlie!!!!!!!!!!! :D

With ball ammunition lock and load.

I've posted my thoughts on where I would haved liked 5 to go earlier. I guess I'm not ecstatic about when and where he got drafted (I am a Browns Fan), but it will have it's advantages. I know he'll work his butt off and I do like the fact he'll have someone to throw to. It will probably get my enthusiasm for the Browns back to where it was before Art ripped our hearts out. If the OL can keep him from getting killed he'll make the best of it. Now, it's time for me to start working on tickets for the preseason Lions vs. Browns on Aug. 20th at Ford Field.

"Savage stopped short of naming Frye the team's sure-fire quarterback of the future, but he was excited about adding the former University of Akron star.

"He's a film rat and a gym rat," Savage said. "This kid is a winner. He's blue collar. He fits the area."

"We have high expectations for (Frye)," Rees said. "But we want to be realistic on where he gets as far as his development."

Savage said the acquisition of Frye in the third round means the Browns will likely trade one of their second-year quarterbacks, Luke McCown or Josh Harris, on Sunday. McCown was picked in the fourth round last year; Harris was picked in the sixth round by Baltimore and was signed by the Browns off the Baltimore practice squad in December."

Picture this.. Charlie and the Browns vs Big Ben and the Steelers 2X a year... will be fun...

Anybody want to discuss how having Charlie go the Browns will affect local recruiting for JD??? Congrats to Charlie and what a major plus today for Akron football!!!

Here's my 2-cent.............

I'm a 4 PSL owner, so obviously a Brown fan...........probably more "invested" than most guys on this board.............but I've been real pissed at them for the past couple years.........for many reasons which need no regurgitation here and now.

Contrary to many around here (meaning our region and not this board specifically), I don't have blind confidence in Savage and Crennel. Don't tell me about it.....do it. I'll just annie-up and keep hoping. I'm a sucker like that..............guess Bernie K made me that way. Speaking of that, C is kind of a "second coming of Bernie" is he not? ;)

Back to 5..........I was hoping Baltimore would jump him before he fell to the Browns. anywhere but here to start his career...........was what I would have preferred for my favorite player.............but it wasn't to be.

I'll bet he, his family and Willard posse are real excited. In a way, I am too. As my wife says now we can see him play almost every Sunday................I sure hope so. It's not that I don't have confidence in him to git r dun...........I just have the feeling the Browns entire organization is...........well................minor league compared to other NFL clubs.........on a par with Arizona if you know what I mean..........

Well...............congrats to 5.............congrats to his posse, and I'll be the guy in the stands with a "UA Frye 5" jersey on this fall on Sundays (I'll hold off on the Browns version for a couple years, thanks).

Now it's "ILFSITF & ILFSITF (again)" sort of "squared" my creado :D

I am also a Browns season ticket holder and this is the most excited I have been about Browns football since before the original team left for Baltimore. I do have faith in the new regime. Just look at their free agent signings and draft so far. I can't argue with any of the moves that they have made to this point. Have faith Browns fans. #5 is going to play a big part in the ressurection of that franchise.

Oh, and by the way Puck Fittsburgh! Their dominance over the Browns is another thing that is going to end. Nothing lasts forever. In the 50's and 60's they were were the Browns bitches. Things always come full circle eventually. Rothlisberger is going to feel some pain!

:mad_flame:BALTIMORE! :mad_flame:

:wall::gun::cry::moon:

(Rifle falls out of his chair and hits the floor!)

Someone get the paddles, I'm having a heart attack!

I don't think that is a possability in my universe. I see it this way.....what happens when an immovable object meets an irresistable force? Would I hate Charlie or like the Ravens? My brain hurts.

There are no classes on winning. Either you can or you can't.

Maybe some day, but not any time soon. Certainly not as long as Ben is with the Steelers.

I have mixed feelings about the pick.

As a Zips fan, I'm happy to see one of our own do really well and make a lot of money. In the end, it is just a really easy and high paying job. Charlie cashing in is a good thing for him and the University. I've said a lot of negative things about Charlie on this page, but always in reference to his football performance (lack of winning) and not his person. He is a good person (which we are all supposed to be) and he has earned this money and I will still never say anything bad about his person. Being a Steelers fan though, it is open season on him from my stand point. :gun: I have never been as happy with a Browns draft pick as I was last night.

Secondly, I'm happy because I bet a Marshall fan $50 that Frye would get drafted in the first three rounds and he did. I will donate the money and a matching gift from my company totaling $100 to the University of Akron Foundation.

Thirdly, as a human being and a Steelers fan I feel bad for Charlie because he has to play in front of the "Dumbest Fans In The World" for the start of his career. They will run him out of Cleveland faster than 19. It will be brutal to watch. I will pray for the day when he is run out of town and gets a second chance with fans who aren't so bitter they do nothing at games except make @$$e$ out of themselves and their community. Bitter and dumb is a terrible combination. :wall:

Lastly, as a Steelers fan, I'm happy that Charlie will one day be starting against the Steelers. :) He has never beat Big Ben and he never will. With Charlie starting and his record of winnig, it will guarantee the Browns 6-7 wins a year and the Steelers will be guaranteed playoff spots year in and year out. What Bill Schottencowher does with those playoff spots will be another issue.

Anyhow, good job Charlie! :thumb: I look forward to seeing you against the Steelers. Joey Porter wants to say hello. :D

GP1, You have issues.

Charlie is going to be fortunate with the Browns.

First, he will learn for 1-2 years behind a super bowl QB.

Second, he will have some weapons, Winslow, Edwards, Suggs, etc.

Third, the o-line is already better than last year, and I am sure they will continue to build it up. When Frye is the starter, the o-line should be pretty good.

This from John Clayton of espn.com on winners and losers in the NFL draft:

• Cleveland Browns: New general manager Phil Savage did it the Baltimore way -- he stayed patient and he made solid selections. By being patient, Savage didn't call the Dolphins, who were trying to fleece an extra pick out of them to trade up to No. 2 and take wide receiver Braylon Edwards of Michigan. He didn't rush the selection of quarterback Charlie Frye of Akron and ended up getting one of the steals of the draft in the third round. Brodney Pool was a low first-round talent drafted in the second round at free safety. Savage is changing seven starters on defense, but he knows he can't rush things. Edwards and Frye are the future. Pool will jump in as a starter. It's a great start.

Check out this comment by Frye's high school coach:

“He’s a tough, gritty, smart, determined kid,†King said. “He’s a winner and a leader. One year we were playing Shelby and were down 14-7 at halftime. On the first play of the third quarter, Charlie throws an interception and this big linebacker heads for the end zone with the ball. Charlie takes off and catches up to him at the 1.

“Now, most high school quarterbacks are just going to let that guy run the extra yard for the touchdown, but not Charlie. He stood the kid up like he’s the one playing linebacker.

“Charlie comes to the sidelines and I say to him, ‘Why did you do that? You could have suffered a concussion.’ But it wasn’t in Charlie to just let him score.

“Ever since I met Charlie, I’ve known that with his make-up, he was just different. I knew he would someday get to the NFL.

“Like I said, I’m a huge Browns fan, and while not wanting to put pressure on him, there’s a little bit of Brian Sipe and Bernie Kosar in him. He’s an old-school kid. He’s not flushy. He’s not going to pull up in a BMW wearing all these gold necklaces. That’s just not his way. His passes don’t always look perfect – they sometimes wobble – but when the game is on the line, he gets the job done. A guy like Ryan Leaf can throw the ball 90 yards, but he can’t get the job done. Charlie can, and has.
