I think it'd be nice to alcohol served in the stadium, but I know any problems that occur would be blamed on it. I think having it in the Club seats and select areas is good enough for me.Oh and yes Dr. Pepper is a must!!
You must be sitting in one of those areas.I think it is ridiculous that it would be served in some areas (for those with more $$$), but not in others. All or nothing.

Yes as Minnesota governor Pawlenty said "it reeks of elitism"I say "Let them have hops!"

Id be grateful they're even offering it period. Sure that means forking over bigger $$$ to gain access to it... but let's be real here people... this is a COLLEGE venue... not a Professional Sports venue. Selling alcohol in a public concession stand at a college football game is a major liability to the University. With it being restricted to those who have club seats, it allows the University's concessions staff to more effectively control the consumption of alcohol. Get a beer before the game, enjoy the game, go get another beer. Go to OBC and support local businesses and help make downtown Akron a better place to be.

AgreedI have no problem with college venues selling to skyboxes and club seats for the very reasons you cited.Professional Sports venues tend to have far more adults vs a college venure where you can 1000's of underage students many of whom would glady try and purchase beer putting the school at risk. That's why there only handful of college venues that sell alcohol and most of them are either off campus venues or shared pro venues. The SEC, Big 10 and Big 12 all have no sales outside of the club seats and skyboxes. It looks like Minnesota may be a totally dry thanks to moronic comments of their Gov about the elite and not thinking control and liability to University of Minnesota by allowing them to do club seats and skyboxes only like the rest of the Big 10+1.

I bet I drink at the stadium if they sell beer. I bet I drink at the stadium if they don't sell beer.I think they should sell beer to anybody that won't fill the bottle with urine and throw it on the field.
It depends on the time of the year. Urinating in a bottle in September is no problem. Getting it done in sub zero temps while wearing 3-5 layers with multiple flesh mangling zippers and operating with contracting equipment is pretty admirable.

Wow I thought this board was mildly young and I'm starting to think it is a bunching of freaking retirees. Are you all suggesting because the beer garden was off campus at the Rubber Bowl that was what saved the student for doing something stupid GP1? That is amazing...a foot off property is all it takes for student to not drink and act like fools? Have you people not been tailgating drinking beer in the parking lot? Hell I've had one of the Cap'n's own personal beers (I think it was Catcher and the Frye or something like that) yet it seems like the old fogies on this board seem to think it is alcohol in the stadium that ruins everything. I can't think of a dumber argument I've read on this board. Not to mention Coors Light is a corporate sponsor for crying out loud. No worries though we don't need the money. On top of that -- am I the only that bought $1 drafts at Can't State last year -- 2 at a time? Wow those friends really didn't get out of hand and trash the place, huh?For the record my understanding is Coors Light has the pouring rights to the lower level and Roo Brew will be available in the Suites and Club section. No word on whether Coors Light is going to actually be served. The campus is not dry it has a liquor license -- have you people not been on campus? Have you been to the Martin Center -- stop by some day for lunch they have a restaurant that serves alcohol, beer and wine.

I'm with you BigZip! Well said. I'm strongly hoping that I'll be able to buy beers at the Info.
Please keep in mind no other MAC stadium sells alcohol stadium wide outside of those with skyboxes or club seats. Don't be shocked when that only place UofA will have it available at the Info.

Dude did you even read my post? I bought $1 beer last year at Can't State. I bought them two at a time. Don't tell me no other MAC school sells beer when they sell it 15 miles away. Get a clue!
Last time I was there it was being sold in a designated area.

I'm sorry. I thought you were refering to the old tailgate area they created back in the late 1990's as I thought sales were still not allowed in the stadium wide from the old policy from a few years ago. Then we now can count Cant State in the list of the few schools who allow it stadium wide and MAC is not alcohol free conference like so many others are like the SEC and Big 10. I stand corrected.

That what I was told by nephew who takes kids he coaches to games and they attend UofA and Cant games as part of recruiting. But, Big Zip is right Cant does sell it in stadium. But, the policy only changed recently.

It changed when I went there in about 2003-2004

I remember back in late 1990's they were going to sell stadium wide and opted for the tailgate area instead. It wasn't something I asked my nephew about every year. I just remember him telling me a couple of the coaches (him included) like being able to get a cold one right there at the stadium. But, you couldn't take it into the stadium. I made a wrong assumption that was still the case as I remember reading a couple of years ago Bowling Green was mulling the ideal and the article stated they'd be the first to do so stadium wide in the MAC.

Cowards...How nice to see our nanny state continues and it keeps getting closer and closer to home.Retired Summit County Common Pleas Judge Jane Bond said drinking ''is a serious societal issue — particularly among our young people. I want us to make this a well-reasoned, deliberate decision.''That'll fix the problem...alcoholism will completely go away because we can't drink in the stadium. How nice of Judge Bond to fix all of society's woes or at least want to. What ever happened to accountability in this country.

Exactly, it actually causes more problems because you'll have more binge drinking off campus before and after the game. The probelm with half our moral issues in this country is that we think we have to baby everyone. I don't know when that started, probably with the dirty hippies in the 60's, but let's face it. Europe, Canada more responsible drinkers. Why, because they can legally drink younger than us. Don't show a boob on TV they'll get the wrong idea. Yep the wrong idea that you shouldn't repress desires to the point that you snap and turn into Ted Bundy or Jeffrey Dahmer. Also, why in the hell do we let the government have so much say on what we can and can't do? If I can drive and drink a cup coffee and text without impeding traffic or causing accidents why the hell should I get a ticket? Better ban walking and chewing gum then too.I never even planned to buy beer at the stadium, but I knew people would want to, so I was for it, if you'er that worried about the college kids getting it, than only sell it at 6 of the concession stands, and card people. It's not like it wasn't going to be watered down to the point of almost being O'Doul's anyway.
