The biggest reasons to look for improvement in the passing game are the coaching hires at offensive coordinator and QB coach. Jacq showed great improvement after year one and the jump could be even bigger this time.

Let's be realistic and not get excited about having Jacq back. All it says is we are lousy at the QB position. Even Walt Harris and Shane Montgomery can't compensate for that. I would not give the reins to the team to JacQ again. But if the staff does so, I'll support their decision and hope (pray) for the best. Last year we lost four games that we led going into the fourth quarter. The combination of Jacq's decision-making, poor offensive play calls by the OC and the prevent defense did what they were designed to do.....they prevented us from winning. I hope we have better talent and schemes for this season. QB looks to be a position that we will win in spite of and not because of. The QB will have better talent around him. I hope that is enough to win us 8 games.

Speaking of defense what the situation with Henderson? Im going to do a preview of MAC defenses and if he qualfiies he will be no small part of yours..

As far as Henderson goes, no news is good news. Same with Ryan Bain. Those guys will be key along with Almondo Sewell. I don't know whether Phil Tonga will be playing along the DL or at a hybrid position but he will also be a major factor.

Nice rundown! It's good to see different perspectives and informed opinions. I have hope for Jacq this year and think his experience is needed during such a pivotal season. I'm sure that nerves will play a factor in some of the younger guys who understand they are part of a historic Zips team with a bar set to new heights. The leadership of Jacq and other experienced players could be the difference maker and in my opinion give us an edge. With continued improvement and consistent play, our QB spot should be in a good position.

Nice defensive rundown as well. I do believe that Ryan Bain will have a bigger impact than Henderson, should both see the field if only because he's been at Akron three years now (one year for the transfer and then last year) and should have spent tons of time learning the 3-3-5 while he was waiting.

My friends there is no indication Jacq as our QB will be any better. It is just wishful thinking. His Spring showed it. He has experience, but it is all experience in blowing games. He does not have a depth of experiences to draw from in which he, and the team also, pulled out victories. That is why I am not confident and want a change. I'd rather have a nervous new QB with more talent than a less talented older QB who has yet to win with consistency. I like the rest of our team. The defense will be better, possibly great if the DB's respond, and the offense has the personnel to win with any kind of average QB. This is a year we don't need a star at QB. Just someone who won't hurt us, especially with poor decision-making.Regardless, bring on the Fall. I am tired of waiting. The Info will be rocking if we can win a few early and build momentum. See you there and we'll continue the debate. Preferrably over a burger and cold one.

I'm hoping he's learned from his mistakes. If we had someone who was much better maybe it'd be worth the risk, but we don't. Until then why not let someone who has experienced a college game man the ship. Decision making should improve with time (I would think) unless he is really helpless. Experience comes with wins and losses, ask any successful athlete. Yes I am being optimistic, but I think there is a decent chance Jacq can be a solid performer this year. I'm sure the coaches know what they're doing.

Put me in the Camp that says let Jack start the season. I'm hoping that Walt is the ticket for him but if he goes below 66% at anytime in the season for pulling out the close game, yank him! You want experience for the poise the player brings in those tough circumstances and if he hasn't developed that lets give Rogers a shot. As for the blog, even though I'm a bit down on the Zips this year, I'm not THAT down. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think we're going to be at least as good as last season (Which isn't saying much), but to say that last season was our best shot for a MAC East championship, I think that is a stretch. Though I'm still taking the wait and see approach with Bain, not mentioning him in the blog is a huge oversight. I appreciate the blog, don't get me wrong. It's very hard to find information on the MAC from someone who is passionate about the MAC. Good job.

Jacq at least needs to start at Penn State. He's played in front of crowds at OSU and Wisconsin, and so shouldn't be nearly as awe-struck as a rookie would be when they run out on the the field in front of 100,000 fans.
