Akron had better be getting a huge payday for this. Scheduling so far into the future usually means that guarantees end up below the current rates for bought games. Quote
UA Fan Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 It does seem disappointing. Maybe they figure we don't need as big of paydays now with the new stadium and we have a better chance of winning than @OSU, Wisconsin, PSU, etc. After all, we now know we can beat an ACC team on the road. Quote

Not to mention the fact that in this day in age with college football future schedules rarely come out looking the same once that season actually rolls around. Quote

VT is completely set through 2015 and it wn't change hardly at all, but we don't even know all the teams we're playing next season. Somebody needs to step up and start planning for the future.We're used to Akron and other MAC schools constantly changing schedules and signing last minute deals and so we think scheduling is like that for all of college football, but it's not. In fact, the MAC has a reputation for backing out of contracts and trying to change things that are already set, and it's the reason why things are so difficult for us trying to get things straight because nobody wants to schedule a MAC school. The Zips ran up 303 yards of total offense in the first half of that game. If Jake Schifino didn't get hurt (seems like he always did) we had a damn good chance of beating Michael Vick that day. Dwight Smith's interception of Vick was pure excitement. I believe Vick was trying to hit Andre Davis (yes Brownies, THAT Andre Davis) deep and Smith must have made up 7 or 8 yards on the underthrown ball (but it still went a good 65 yards) to make a diving grab. We actually made it an extended Virginia vacation that year and stopped down to Charlottesville to see the historical sights of that region (Monticello, Ash Lawn-Highland, Michie Tavern, UVa). I guess that would have been easier to do that when Frye put a scare into the Wahoos a few years later, but we didn't make that game (or the one after it). Quote

That sort of puts the argument to rest based on recent history. Quote

If he doesn't get hurt, the Big 12 and the rest of the country (if they don't know already) are about to find out just how special this kid is in 2009. Quote

Had a great time in Blacksburg also. The problem was there was no game. The score was (if I remember correctly) 49-0 at halftime. And the VT fans we tailgated with claimed that they didn't have a very good offense. Anyway....because VT has gained some notoriety nationally in recent year, I think it may be a dream to get them to give us a return game anymore. I'll take it!! Sounds like a good excuse for another Virginia road trip. Quote
