Captain Kangaroo
I hear 4-star DL Recruit Chris Henderson in on campus, taking classes. It looks good that he'll see the field in 2009. (am I only allowed to use this emoticon if I have 5th or 6th level tickets?)

johnnyzip84
Wow, I sure hope so! If he does, I also hope Fleming and company aren't shy about putting he and Bain on the field at the same time, at least on some occasions (I know you have to keep guys fresh and take advantage of our considerable depth as well). Can you imagine a front three of Sewell, Bain, and Henderson?Furthermore, how effective could Shawn Lemon be blitzing from a LB spot with those three guys in front of him? Could our dreams of an effective pass rush be coming into fruition???
Dr Z
GREAT news! Another reason to abandon the stack. Give me four big guys up front and I'll give you 8+ wins.
Class of 82
Now THAT'S fantastic news... for the Zips and for Chris Henderson. The kid probably feels like he's been through the ringer and finally sees light at the end of the tunnel.Man, I just love mixing metaphors. ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net
Don't forget Monster Hands Phil Tonga thrown into this D as well. NE Ohio fans love the D baby, and these Zips should hopefully (please, please, please) not destroy our chances like they did so many times last year. GO ZIPS!STZ

I SHOULD have said, can you imagine a front FOUR of Sewell, Bain, Henderson and Tonga! As much as I want to believe, with a couple of breaks, we had a shot in that game. Now I am facing the truth. We didn't stop them all day. We barely slowed them down. So they may redshirt.Next year I will expect more from them. Bain hasn't played in 2 years. We don't know what to expect their.Don't forget Harvey, Rash, Hazime, Davis and Marcoux. These guys were all Freshman last year. They all have a year under their belt now and should be much better. If all of these guys stay healthy and stay elegible, I expect to see a dominating line in 2010 and beyond.

ZachTheZip
Tonga will be a junior. He went to LA Harbor Junior College. He should come in right away and make an impact.
Class of 82
Tonga will be a junior. He went to LA Harbor Junior College. He should come in right away and make an impact.I agree. Having seen a lot of California JUCO ball first hand, I know it's not Div-1 football. But I'll tell you what. There are some serious, serious players there. A guy dominating on the DL there can most definitely help a program like Akron's. That may or may not translate into domination, but I believe it absolutely will translate into solid play. And you can take that to the bank. I think the toughest thing for JUCO guys often is how they fit into team chemistry, especially when they're usually taking a spot or playing time from somebody who was recruited as a fresman and might have redshirted. Heck man. Nobody likes a mercenary, and sometimes that's how JUCO transfers are viewed, at least initially, by teammates. As for Henderson and Bain, I'm very optimistic that they can have an immediate impact as well. I mean geez. Look at what they've both been through over the last two years or so. Henderson's football fortunes went from the highest of heights to the lowest of lows almost overnight, and now he's got his shot at redemption. If he gets the classwork stuff worked out, I think you're likely looking at a guy with a motivation level that is off the charts... and the body and talent to do amazing things. Bain transferred to Akron looking for a place he could be happy and just play football. We all know the hell he's gone through. If he feels half of what I think I'd feel were I in his shoes, I pity the kids who get in this guy's way.I guess the common theme for all three of those guys is redemption. They've each got things to prove... to themselves and to people who have written them off. I hope they can do that. And I like their chances. Dr Z
A four man front that is effective would be a massive improvement! If you don't believe that, you watched a different team than me since JD has been here.I'm sick of watching undersized guys drag tackle 9 yards down field.Get any kind of pressure on their QB, disrupt something, anything. Get them to 3rd and long by stopping the run a few times this year.Don't make our offense have to score every time they touch the ball.Give our offense some kind of confidence that you can stop the opponent. Don't make them force things. If JD doesn't change the D this year, I am on board for a coaching change. We need to win now. There are no excuses. The MAC is weak, take it! johnnyzip84
Looks like someone needs to quit spending so much time on Bucknuts and a little more time paying closer attention to the Zips I do agree, as I stated in a previous post, that the Zips need to take advantage of the depth they have at DL. However, when the a tight game is on the line in the 4th quarter, I want the best players on the field. IMHO the depth is best served over the course of a game so that the "starters" are fresh when needed the most.If anyone doesn't think that Henderson, true freshmen or not, won't be a factor this season (assuming he is eligible and stays healthy), then they must not have seen the video on all the recruits of 2009. I know it's just a highlight tape, but this guy looked unbelievable. If he plays in 2009, he WILL be a stud.
