Was just wondering if anyone knew whether or not the team will have a new locker room at the Info seperate from their locker room in the Field House, or whether they will also use the Field House locker room on game day? Architectually, will there be some sort of tunnel connecting the the Field House locker room via the back glass doors to the Field Level at Info if they do intend to use this as a game day locker room?

No tunnel or bridge. They will have their locker room in the Field House (get suited up), walk over before warm-ups, and then pre-game, half-time, and post-game they will go to the North End Zone facility (some one please cough up the 2.5 million for naming rights already). The bridge made no sense, and the tunnel was ruled out because of the expense of cutting through 10 feet of sandstone.

They will use the lockerroom at the field house to dress. They will then proceed to the lockerroom/meeting room in the north end of the stadium. That is where they will meet and spend half time.

So they're going to walk across the street, into the stadium, and down the stairs to the field?? Why in the world would we build a multi-million dollar stadium and still have our players doing something second rate like that. I say spend the few extra bucks and freakin connect the locker room to the stadium.

I don't see any problem with the setup. The entire year minus six days is spent outside of the stadium. Hell, if they do expand the info north the backside of the stands would practically reach to the field house doors.

To go along with this, many teams do a Pre-Game walk to the stadium from much farther away than 100ft.

Plus they will probably walk to the stadium for pregame warm ups on the field then go to the north facility locker room for final game prep and speeches. Really no time or dramatic effect lost with this setup. The cost savings were very significant.

Try Va Tech for one. Their walk is much further then one UofA will use. They have gameday rooms in the stadium for pre game and haltime and use their state of the art practice facilities for dressing and they're much further away then UofA short walk. I know of couple of schools that used buses back in the 1970's as practice facilities were on one side of campus and the stadium was on another. Penn St UofA opponent in few weeks did that until the 1978 season when they expanded the locker room facilities at Beaver Stadium when they did the first of many stadium expansions. But, until then they had gameday rooms at Beaver Stadium and had to cross a minor highway to get to the football facilities where they dressed. They were not the only ones that used buses for an on campus Stadium and there still few out there that do the same thing today.I agree with UofA and spending 3 mil to tunnel through sandstone was an expense they didn't need at this time.

Like for example @ Fresno State, where the visiting team has to run a gauntlet of FSU students throwing things and spitting at them! At least no samurai swords (they keep their basketball team away).

Hopefully whoever is leading the rowdies this year has the foresight to make this into a tradition. Line that walkway with students and fans before the game. Now THAT would be an adrenaline rush for the players...

sandstone? really?Did they have to cut sandstone when they excavated the lower bowl?

Yeah the construction manager said the one thing they did not anticipate was the amount of sandstone they would have to deal with. In fact if you look at some of the early shots of the excavation you can see the exposed sandstone.Historically the area was known as a clay bed (they used to make sewer pipes up the road at what is now Mason Elementary). So they had no geological information that suggested they would hit hard rock.

very good.I guess I stand corrected.I had assumed that they did not encounter sandstone in the bowl and thus continuing the excavation for a hallway toward the practice field facility would not have been a major additional feat.Apparently, they expected clay and not so much bedrock, but knew ahead of time there would be bedrock near the practice facility scratched that idea. :moon: That's okay.I have revealed secret plans to quickly get the players and staff across from the practice facility into one of the very well constructed stairwell stuctures in the north endzone building.

Ahhhh, why didn't I see this before. Because of all the water leaking from that water slide, they will need a really, really, really, really, really good roofing system that doesn't leak. What do you think the warranty on that roof is, 200 years? I bet they NEVER have to repair those rooftops!
