Zipsrifle
Ok, now I have to say that I too am frustrated that the forward was by Jim Tressel. Lets face it, this book is going to be purchased by die hard Akron fans who realize that Jim Tressel was a Zip at one point, but also realize that his contribution to the overall Zip program was relatively small. I would much rather have Dennison or Faust, someone who put a large portion of their life into UofA. I see the Tressel thing as a blatant attempt to put a big name on the cover for OSU fans to generate sales.
ZachTheZip
It's insulting, counter-productive, and a blatent grab for people outside the target demographic of the product.
Blue & Gold
It is patronizing.
zip37
Rifle---- FAUST!!! You gotta be kidding, he took a national contender to a flop in 1 season, and it got worse from there, check the record. He kept saying 'We're getting better and better', when in fact we were getting worse and worse.
Zipmeister
John Heisman's relationship with the school was short-lived, but he would have been an excellent choice. Unfortunately, I understand all the writing has gone out of his hands.

He kept saying 'We're getting better and better', when in fact we were getting worse and worse. I'm not contesting the facts....I was at the toilet bowl in '94. The point I would like to make is that someone who was head coach for the Zips for 9 seasons, took them DI-A, and worked for UofA for sometime AFTER being head coach would be more qualified to write the foreward than someone who was a position coach for a few years and then moved to a rival school. g-mann17
What a bunch of tools. He's an alumni. He wanted a career, so he moved on and eventually ended up a head coach at YSU. They could have given him a shot when we decided to go D-1 but they chose Faust. To act like he's some evil turncoat when the school never gave him a shot to take the reins, and to treat someone who is an alumni like they are trash and a worthless embarassment is completely assinine. I would expect that out of some of the younger fans but anyone with a sense of history for the team should hold the fact that he was coach and student at the university in higher regard. With that said (and Buckzip and Zipgrad can attest to this) I'm not a big fan of the OSU wearing, Zips "fan". But all of you sound like a scorned girlfriend. Why don't you go teepee his house or something sheesh, bunch of immature miscrients."OH BOO HOO!!! A coach, alumni, and athletic booster who donates thousands of dollars and time to the University that gave him his start got to write the foreword to a book about our football teams history. That might mean some crusty OSU fans may buy it and end up taking a small wrinkle of interest in our program BOO HOO!!! Whoa is us."
tbozeglav
^^^ what he said. He may be the head football coach at the biggest D-1 school in our state that overshadows our program, but that doesn't change the fact that he is an alumnus of The University of Akron. Sure, putting his name at the beginning of the book will grab the eyes of all those OSU "fans" out there, but why not do it?! Maybe that'll get them interested enough to read about our program and lean about something they've been blinded from seeing for years now. g-mann17
So I bought the book when I was picking up my $205 Business & Government book (I better get some money back at the end of semester this time) and promptly read the foreword when I got home. You people are getting your panties in a bunch about 4 paragraphs that basically say "Thank you for the opportunity, I loved the school, and everything that I am is because of the University of Akron. This book is full of information that even I wasn't aware of and this book will be great for all Zips fans."
Blue & Gold
I'm buying a copy as soon as I get back from vacation. And I do have to remember not to get too upset about OSU - even though I hate the school with a passion. Rationally, I do believe that the best we can do with the current Akron-area population is to make them both UA and OSU fans. My greater hope is in the next generation. Hopefully we can all raise our kids to be Akron fans and not Columbus State bandwagon sellouts like the rest of the state.Ohio is the biggest loser - bandwagon state I know. I have OSU fan friends who say, "I'm not riding a bandwagon, I'm from Ohio, so I like OSU." Oh, yeah, then where is your OU stuff? Oh, yeah, that's right, you are a bandwagon rider. Losers.Oh, well. Being a Zips fan ain't easy!
johnnyzip84
John Heisman's relationship with the school was short-lived, but he would have been an excellent choice. Unfortunately, I understand all the writing has gone out of his hands.Hmmmm but just think.......if we COULD get those hands of Heisman's to start working again then we'd have TWO Zips with...........................monster hands
jaycevs
Its an honor to have Tressel as an Alum and still thinking about this University and about Youngstown State, especially in his world in Columbus where no one cares about anything other than their own football. ZachTheZip
Puts things in a different light doesn't it? Or if you saw through it all from the beginning, the exact same light.
bobbyake
Puts things in a different light doesn't it? Or if you saw through it all from the beginning, the exact same light. we owe Tressel our gratitude for the work he put in tarnishing OSU's football program. We should hire him as a Thank You!!
