ZachTheZip
The ESPN blog has seriously deteriorated in quality compared to last year. Between this and the Big East blogger counting Akron as an automatic win along with 1-AA Maine today, it shows a lack of research being done on the subjects. g-mann17
9. Surprise team of the year: Temple -- The Owls are a team no one is talking about and that's probably a big mistake. The Owls finished third in the East last season and were a game away from bowl eligibility. Behind a new (unnamed) starting quarterback, they should be much improved this season.Talk about spin. Did this guy graduate from Temple or something? Temple finished 5-7 just like Akron. They were 1 win away from bowl eligibility not a bowl. Even at 6-6 chances are neither team get's a bowl invite last year. Then Temple is supposed to be improved behind an unnamed quarterback when the only games they won last year was under Dimichelle?pfft... It's just lumped in with all of the other BCS blogs under the "National" blog (all of the BCS leagues still have their own individual blogs). So there wasn't enough readership of her blog with 54 schools in it to warrant having it stand on it's own?

g-mann17
Question: What have we done to EARN some 'love'? Not 100% sure but $61.6 million buys you a lot of love at the Bunny Ranch. And we were 5-7 and had 4 extremely close games that could have been wins. Typically that kind of season with 15 returning starters buys you a little bit of "watch out for this team"2007- yeah should not have got love lost quite a few key people and had no clear QB option2008- we had an inexperienced unproven QB, and a RB by committee that was injury prone, lost our top receiver that deserves no love2009- 15 returning starters, healthy d-line, experienced (though thin) defensive backfield, 3 yr QB, new digs, new coaching staff, something to change the attitude of the players = a little bit of love

tim123
If I hear one more time we where just a few close games from being 9-4 I will truly loose confidence in an educated zip football fan that has to know that a win is a win and a loss is a loss. Close is only in handgernades and horseshoes...I never said it as "golly gee we were so close last year to having a good record" I said it as "we were competetive while being inexperienced in very key positions, so why wouldn't we be competetive this year?" Hell we were 2 close games from being 3-9 (there are only 12 games in a season afterall). The point remains that what the tool of a writer said about Temple is actually more appropriate for us, then them.
GP1
Question: What have we done to EARN some 'love'? Answer: Nothing......In fact, with the exception of one 7-3-1 season long ago now and one MAC Championship over the past 20 odd years, we have not done anything to deserve respect. Respect is earned, not given. This team can be very good this year. The talent is there. The problem is that the players playing for the Zips don't have a track record of coming through in the clutch. I don't see that changing this year. I'll wait for one of the 50 prediction threads that will pop up over the next couple of weeks, but I don't see good things ahead for the Zips this season. When posting the prediction thread, please post the schedule as well starting with the sentence....."Given the schedule below (post schedule below), what is your prediction for the 2009 season." More self deficating "we suck and we'll always suck" comments. Soon to come fromg GP1 "MAC is 'toilet bowl' football" and "all you dumb Browns fans"; also don't miss "even my wife thinks the MAC stinks" and "we are a mid-level program in a toilet conference". I just hate to be misquoted. I've never said the MAC is "toilet bowl football"........it's "Dollar General football".Let's see, stupid Browns fans....check. My wife thinks it stinks......check. Mid level team in a toilet conference.....wrong......we are a mid level team in a third tier conference. The point is this. If we want to be considered a good team, we need to earn it with winning. I don't see how that is a put down. The fact is, we have almost never been a very good team and that needs to change. The players need to get it done this season. We can't pretend to be something we aren't or we will never be able to change what we are.
g-mann17
I wasn't arguing the lack of success, I was just pointing out that having a shitty attitude about our chances is getting pretty old. We are historically winners (482–461–37 (51%)). Have we been exceptionally good since going D-1? No, but for that to happen it requires investment in the program (finally a check) and fan support (unfortunately we live in an area that front runs like a mo-fo, hence the distaste for Akron student Buckeye fans). Our Boys in Blue and Gold Pick up a copy.

I love the Zips, but I can't pretend the Zips or the MAC are something they are not. Maybe if the program hasn't been so shitty for so long, my attitude wouldn't be so shitty. It's time for the players on this team to take control of the program and say enough is enough. As far as the book, the cover of the book proves the great GP1 is like a fine wine. He keeps getting better with age.
