Zipsrifle
I'm going to get torched, and that is fine. We're 3 games into the season, not even to MAC play, and we're ready to fire the coach, start burning redshirts, and stop tailgating because of the cops. I shouldn't be suprised, this is the typical response of people from NE Ohio. I'm not saying I'm happy with yesterday's results, I'm not, but I'm not giving up on this team. Go ahead, labled me as one who "Settles for Mediocrity"! It's not about mediocrity, it's about backing your men! We've got what we've got, we need to make the best of it!First off, are you guys crazy talking about canning the coaching staff at this point in the season? What, are we going to just scrap all of our plans and start anew? Yep, next week we'll be a completely different team......yea, you can make those changes just like that???? I am not happy with the results, but this is what we've got. These guys KNOW they are on the hot seat now, lets see what happens with flames kissing their butts, we might be suprised. CJ made a knuckleheaded move, and I applaud JD for taking a stand at the worst time. In my mind, Rogers is the QB, and we need to roll with it. Yesterday was Rogers first start, and he made the mistakes I frankly expected him to make. News F L A S H.....He will make MORE!!!! He is our "Mobile" QB, but he was fenced in the whole game and had to pass. He's not as good as CJ in this Dept, but he will get better with time. We all thought (well I didn't) a week ago that Rogers was the best player on the team, now we are ready to run him out of town!!! Go ahead, burn Nicely's redshirt, what will you do if he isn't our Brady Quinn?? We just torched a year of learning and probably ran Rogers out of town, smart move??? I hope Rogers continues with the rate of improvement he has shown over the summer. Let Walt work with the kid and we'll see what develops.I could fill the page with rants about what went wrong yesterday. I am just as frustrated as the rest of you. I NEVER leave a game early and I'm not going to check out early this season. We've got what we've got at this point, deal with it. For me, I'm going to do what I do when it's early on and things aren't going your way. You suck it up, grit your teeth, take your beating, and MAKE THE BEST OF IT. Fire away! indiandad4
I'm kinda new to whole Akron thing, but going over the game scores for the last 20 years there have been a few good years and a bunch of bad years, meaning below .500. As a fan I am always very critical of the play of the players and decisions of the coaches, but I always, always give them everything I have as a fan. JD's questionable recruiting in 05 cost him alot of head aches and a few wins. I think he learned alot about what kind of kids you need to recruit( speed kills, but so do bad attitudes.) Young kids are starting to show up on the depth chart and still alot of football left to play. Central Michigan this week then we have an off week. From Sat. Oct 10th on is what I'm looking forward to. Lets give them all we have and hope that the team does the same
MDZip
Here is what I think (because I know you were all waiting for my opinion). We got ahead of ourselves. The stadium is very nice but I think anything would look better next to the Rubber bowl. I love the stadium but it could be dressed up a little more like some giant players posters or the flags of the MAC teams like we saw in the drawings but it is no panacea for solving all of the Zips issues. Quite frankly with the awful facilities we had up to this point, it's damn hard to recruit quality kids. So we're playing with the best we could get over the past few years. Do you know that when recruits were brought on campus in the last few years they never got to see the Rubber except from a distance? Now the stadium is a centerpiece. The stadium really only comes into play for helping with recruiting from this point forward. As far as attendance and tailgating go, it's going to take time to get established. The area is hungry for a winner, but give them a good product and they will come. OK, 18K isn't great but considering what we've averaged in attendance over the last few years, it doesn't look so bad. The experience is good for the most part, we just need to get some interest in the community by putting a product out there that generates interest. For any of you that were at the soccer game on Friday, that was phenomonal. You think most of those people would have been there without the #1 ranking? That's what draws interest. I did happen to see Zeke at the basketball tent and talked to his parents (nice family) but I didn't see him limping or I would have asked. Gamechanger are you out there? She did show me a picture that was pretty cool, hope she posts it soon, but I don't want to steal all her thunder. OK, I've been all over the map so I might as well end it with this. How strange will it be that Jacq will be the answer to the question "Who threw the first touchdown pass at Infocision?" in the only game he ever played there. johnnyzip84
For the record, I wasn't calling for JD immediate removal. I was only trying to illustrate the uphill battle he has to save his job. There's no more margin for error. I think that's pretty clear. BTW I don't leave games early, and I'll be rooting just as hard as ever for them this weekend to right the ship. Go Zips!!! Douse the Chips!!! zen
I was always annoyed by the debbie-downers on this board... but I'm changing my spots. The time has come for me to no longer play cheer-leader for mediocrity. I can't be an apologist when the pattern continues. More than anything else, including the need to forgive the unforeseen circumstances (which always seem to crop up in one form or another), I have a problem with play calling. Expecting defense to bite on draw fakes or the potential QB keeper DOES NOT spread the ball around the field and strike fear into the defenses we face about where and who to cover. This stuff is getting old.

ZipsAlum92
Let's be realistic. This is not going to be a great season. We are probably going to be 1-3 after this week. I think we all need to accept the fact that this year's team is a .500 ball club. That isn't going to save Brookhart's job. This season is what it is. WinZip
Here's the deal, we have only played one game of significance in my mind. If we turn around and win next week, I'll be as happy as ever. However, to lose two big games in a row digs the hole that much deeper. I'm not sure why people are suddenly calling the season a flop after one dropped game. We'll have our chances to make up for it! The talk I have been reading on here for the past few days is pathetic. I didn't expect Akron to go undefeated, nor did I expect them to never make a mistake. We have played one real game and the season is now lost? People need to re-screw their heads on, seriously. The team can still have a very successful year, and I will cheer for them to do so. No wonder people of Akron can't get behind their team, all of the ZipsNation "faithful" are throwing hissy fits. Embrace the positives, correct the negatives, MOVE ON. Embrace the positives, correct the negatives, MOVE ON.I can only speak (type) for myself, my disappointment from my favorite college football team comes from missed opportunity. We have a brand new stadium on campus, beautiful day, FAVORED against a "Big" Ten team at HOME, and our 5th year senior QB gets booted from the team the night before the big game and we lose with our back up QB looking, to say the least...not too promising. I had HUGE expectations for the year, right now I have the kicked in the groin feeling when I think of the rest of the season. I have anticipated this season ever since the first day they put up a web cam for the building of the new stadium, losing our starter at the most important position on the team has damped my enthusiasm. Of course, as always, winning cures everything. A win next week, and yes we are right back on track. But I have typed that sentence too many times here on ZN. So am I down, yes. Such is the life of a Zips football fanatic.
ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net
The definition of insanity is continuing to take the same actions while expecting different results. How many years of .500-ish football are we supposed to accept from JD and this crew? There's not a fan on here who doesn't cheer on Zips teams and wish for the best. We are three games in, staring at another loss this coming weekend, and would you like all of us to fall into some sort of blind loyalty thing to this team? Are you serious? With what is at stake this year? JD has had more than enough time to make this thing happen. He's recruited all of the kids here, including Jacq the Smokestacq, and guess what? He's still playing that crappy 3-3-5, he's still spending time and energy on quite a few recruits who never make the field, he's still running that crappy slow-developing handoff and run up the middle that never, ever works. Knowing that we'll all be there cheering, win or lose, the rational thing to do on these fan boards is to ADVOCATE for what we'd like to see to make things better. You can whistle dixie all you want but I'm going to boost when it's appropriate and bitch and moan when it's appropriate, and right now is an appropriate time to be pissed at the performance of this team in a year when all the chips are down. You tell me, what do you suppose Wistrcill is doing this week? Happily cruising along knowing he's come into great facilities, or pushing like hell to get teams to perform in those facilities so he can sell tickets? I'd bet you a paycheck it's the latter.STZ

zen
Hey guys, I just wanted to say something. As I said before, I always found the debbie-downers annoying. They usually weren't trying to contribute. They were often just grinding an axe. That's not me. I just wanted to say how I felt in this thread. My biggest disappointment is how the play-calling resembles that of previous season-campaigns even though we are supposed to have new people on that job.I don't have an axe to grind. But since the thread was here, I thought that the fact that I have been a "give JD more time" guy, and particularly against mid-season hatchet jobs, would give me a bit more credibility in my disappointment than the guys who grind their axes against this regime year in and year out.At some point, the pattern isn't a fluke. At some point... you have to take a step back and stop rationalizing with excuses about misfortunes, missed opportunities, the way the ball bounces, and it's just not our year.I don't plan to make a big thing out of this, but I know from being on the other side of the fence on this issue in the past that my new opinion is going to rub some people the wrong way. I'm not trying to do that.I'm just questioning things a lot harder now.Being a spectator is our religated place as fans and means we have no say in these matters... But that doesn't mean we have to like what we see.

RACER
the only reason i have any hope of a good season is the mac is a horrible conference.i don't to haer about how great cmu isright now.they went 8-5,and 8-6 the last two years.clemson hung 70 on them, and the lost to a 1-aa team in 2007.if they played in the sec they would be lucky to win two games.i saw them play georgia last year, and they got destroyed.there is no reason this team cannot win a few games in the mac.if jd can't win five games in the mac then he does notdeserve to be here.the mac is usually the second worse conference every year.yet we can't even have a winning seasonfor the last three years.as long as we are the best of the worst we can win 6-7 games this year.if the team cannot do that then things will take care of themselves. Fire away!I agree with you. I will never give up on this team. I would never walk out early on them. Yes it is painful to watch 4 interceptions in a singel game. But we will move on and get better. I believe JD has built a talented team with good coaches. It is only a matter of a short time before things turn around for us. And when they do, I hope people will rally this team to the MAC Championship and beyond. I know some ZN may think I'm overly optimistic, but I really do believe in this team and will not go down without a fight. It would take a punch from Mike Tyson to put me down, and then I'd probably STILL be able to get back up and Bitch-Slap him!! GO ZIPS!!!!! BTW -I just want to say that I for one, was pretty impressed with how Devoe Torrence ran the ball. I thought he showed a lot of toughness and running skill. I think he's gonna give us a real threat with our running game. I love Bowser and LeFrance. But now we just need Devoe to be un-leashed! I'm confident he's gonna bring a lot of smiles to us. I say Devoe is "Dreal Deal". Go Bowser, Go LaFrance, Go Rodgers, Go Almondo, Go Devoe, Go Everyone, GO ZIPS!!!
ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net
It might have been mop up time but with the state of our running game I hope the staff will give him meaningful carries this weekend. I want to start to see what we have, or don't have, in DeVoe. By the way, dude there is something great about your West Coast Sunshine Cup Half Full Fight To Win Never Give Up posts. Keep them up bro.STZ
