BirdZip Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 I have no idea on the score, but I'd be willing to bet that Zippy does not ride anything motorized this week and his head stays intact. Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 I see the line has been pretty active this week, starting at Akron +5 and now it's down to Akron +3 or +3.5. The MAC game where the line has really made a move is the Can't/BG game. It started at Can't +6.5 and now it's down to Can't +1.5!! I wonder if this is raising any eyebrows (Toledo cough cough). I actually think Can't has a decent chance in this game. IF (big if) they pull it off, old Dougie's "we'll play in a bowl game" tirade after Jarvis' injury might not look so crazy. Quote
xu9697 Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 The Matt Rodgers era starts tomorrow. Guy has been here 3 years, and starting vs. IU with 1.5 days notice and playing at arguably the best MAC team in the rain is a tough way to go. 3 years, 2 tough starts, 2 weeks to prepare for a winnable game at home. If the coaches let him roll out and run some...Zips 31OU 23If they continue with the same crappy offense...OU 34Zips 20 (with a late score making it look closer)Walt, Shane and JD better have their act in gear and get MR5 going in the right direction!!! Captain Kangaroo Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Looking at the game objectively, I can't see the Zips winning.OU isn't as good as Indiana, so I'll say OU 31 Zips 21.How can the Zips win? The offense needs to get in an aggressive mind set. If Rodgers can stop worrying about making mistakes and start leading the team, we have a chance. OU has given the Zips some cheap shots in recent meetings. I believe Andre Jones has been nailed twice after clearly calling for fair catches on punt returns. Hopefully the Zips remember those plays. The Zips need to get some swagger going and come out to kick OU's ass. If an OU player tries a cheap shot, someone on the Zips team needs to fight back. JD promised the Zips would "violently defend" the home field. It is put-up-or-shut-up time. Quote
g-mann17 Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Ok I believe that this is the weekend that the pretenders (OU and Can't) get exposed for what they are.First, OU has beaten Cal Poly, North Texas, and BGSU. Cal Poly was an 18 pt win over a FCS school that is now 2-2North Texas was an overtime win against a team that is now 1-3 (with the win coming over the second worst performing team in the country)BGSU was a shoot out with a few things that went Ohio's way, ending up in a 7 point win BGSU is 1-4.The point being is that OU can score points, we saw it last year, but they are spotty and inconsistant. Rodgers has had almost a month to acclimate to being the QB. That is almost as much time as we have prior to the first game of the season and the defense has had a chance to heal.My prediction, we finally get to see a run game (break through for Tuzze and Torrence), they let Rodgers have more leash as he is now more familiar with the "on the fly" play calling. The healthy DB's step up and make some plays.Akron 30Ohio 24(oh and since I mentioned it BGSU 45 Black Squirrels 13) Quote
tim123 Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 How long do you wait for Rodgers to get acclimated? He's been here for what three years. If he throws a few ints. or can't move the ball by halftime? When do you make a change, maybe against Buffalo or NIU. We need to win yesterday, look around the country and see how many true freshmen are starting. You're either a QB or your not. We need to get the running game going in order to be successful. The defense needs to make some significant progress or we are in for a long season. Go Zips!! Quote

I really feel, if we can't win this week, we may not get another 'W' this year. Win, and we still have a chance to be competitive in the East, and shuffle over to Buffalo with some Mo. But to have a real chance in the East, we must win the next two. It starts tomorrow! Akron 27 Ohio 17 Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 In reviewing the 1st four games, I realized late last night an unusual coincidence. In the only Zip win of the year, I had in my possession a punching Zippy pen courtesy of UA EVENTS.COM and E. J. Thomas Hall. This was the ONLY time I had said pen on my person during a Zip football game this season. Since this is such a vital game, I will make sure to bring "punching Zippy" this evening to help the Zips TKO the Bobcats Quote
