MDZip
I always wondered what in the heck that phrase came from but in any case College Soccer News included the Zips as one of their Six Questions You Might Want to Ask feature.Spoiler Alert: They think we could. ksu sucks
At first glance I thought this was posted in the football forum. As for the futbol squad, I say it's a given so long as they play like they have all season. I think Hartwick will be a really good test to finish off the season. It's going to be tough though. To truly finish off unbeaten, we'd need to beat both 'wick and NIU twice each. That's tough, but we aren't number 1 in the nation for nothing. Go zips! skip-zip
What is there? Six games left? I'd say the odds are against us (much like the comments I make when we go through our West division basketball games). Especially when a soccer game can swing based on just ONE good shot. But wow...with the run we are having? I have some faith that it really could happen. johnnyzip84
Getting to the NCAAs unblemished is one thing. Taking it all the way to the championship is another. This team is obviously capable of doing both, but if it we're up me I'd sacrifice a regular season or MAC tourny hiccup if the Zips go on to win the NCAA championship. In terms of national competition, don't look now but Kenny Lola's Louisville Cards seem to be getting it together at a good time (link). Their 4-0 thrashing of IU yesterday will garner some attention.LinkThis will undoubtedly make some at UA nervous about Indiana's coaching situation and possible future hires (have we ever seen the dead horse in the soccer forum? )

Nice article... I would note however, that they make mention that MAC teams might try to pack the box and steal a win to get into the NCAA tournament. We have already shown on this board that is not the case, but that just proves how weird it is that no one really knows that.

skip-zip
I would also gladly trade an undefeated season for a national title. But...an undefeated season would still be a huge boost to recruiting efforts in the off-season.I just wish soccer got more attention. This run could have really been something that could have helped our exposure as an athletic school. Example: I was talking to a buddy the other day who is an ex-Zips football player, and big Akron football supporter. He said to me, "Tell me when any Akron team has been competitive nationally at anything....it's never happened". And I mentioned the soccer team, and he didn't believe me until he looked it up on-line himself. And this is someone who is around Akron athletics. It vividly reminds me how much even people around here don't pay any attention to the "non-major" sports. It's unfortunate.

It's unfortunate. It's a shame that the Beacon doesn't do more, and where is the nightly news coverage?I mean not just soccer, Jenna and Stevi won individual national championships. What because they are "olympic sports" it's less important? I still say what kills the school from gaining attention is the lack of a real media presence here in Akron. It was a lot easier with basketball, but soccer still carries some cachet. I try to talk to team up to anyone I know, especially UA alumni. A national title will help, at least it will be some recogniton. But in 1986 we made it to the National final and still not a lot people know that. This is the first time we've ever been this good before. Nobody in their right mind should see us as being a one-hit-wonder type of team. A look at our roster and where they all came from is a clear indication that we are a consistent winner and bring in the best talent year after year. What we need now, more than anything, is for ABJ to start covering more soccer matches. Hopefully this will stir the interest of the public and may even get more area coverage.
Let'sGoZips94
Honestly, that Michigan game proved to me we can go all the way untouched. Playing like we did against NIU and VT, where we had close calls and some sloppy play, then coming back and whooping on a good Big 10 team, that's what champions do. This team is the best in the land. I will say though, that I would much rather have that national championship over an undefeated season. I was afraid someone would bring this up. How did IU not make CSN' surprises? Have the Whoosers ever FAILED to make the NCAA tourney?? If we're talking about this NEXT year at this time, I'll be trembling. But now...
