zipsfan13
Sorry Akron Fans. Mark Stoops will be a Penguin next week!http://www.wytv.com/content/news/headlines...1IyxVx1sEQ.cspxSince I'm from the Youngstown area, I'm quite happy that Stoops is returning home to YSU. Hopefully he can turn that program around. As for Akron, I feel that Fickell would be a good choice.

Mark Stoops will be a Penguin next week!http://www.wytv.com/content/news/headlines...1IyxVx1sEQ.cspxSeems to me that report (and others on the web like it) only indicates that sometime next week Stoops will actually talk to YSU. A little bit of a leap to assume it's a done deal, when other guys are still interviewing with YSU right now?Hope it works out either way for YSU. ZachTheZip
The more I think about it, the more I think that Fickell is a good candidate.Well every talking head in the country has said "He's going to be a head coach, and he has the ability to recruit."Every "name" on that defense over the last 3 seasons, was recruited by Fickel. (and yes it's easier to recruit for OSU than Akron, but he's beating out, Nebraska's, USC's, and Texas's for some of these kids.) Surely he can beat out MAC schools and low tier Big East schools for the players we compete for.Yes, he's a great recruiter. He also brings media attention, especially from the Cleveland TV people, due to his apparent role as the successor to Tressel (where does this come from, anyway?). BostonZip
I hope it's not Paul Winters. Stop worrying, it won't be.From the Wayne State student newspaper:Rumors about Wayne State coach Paul Winters resigning to take the head coaching job at Akron -- his alma mater -- are untrue, according to the Wayne State athletic department.Winters, who signed a five-year contract extension last offseason, has not been contacted by Akron. Under NCAA guidelines, Akron -- if interested -- has to ask permission to speak to Winters because he is under contract.According to Akron Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations Mike Cawood, Athletic Director Tom Wistrcill refuses to comment on the coaching search until the selection is officially announced. The link. Lee Adams
I caught part of Frenchie's show tonight. His list in no particular order1. Mark Stoops - French has heard that Stoops is interested. I am excited about this one.2. Pat Narducci - MSU DC3. Paul Winters4. Paul Chryst- he also mentioned that Akron was one of the MAC schools that wanted Rick Chryst out5. Luke Fickell6. Terry Allen - North IowaStoops seemed like the only guy where French acknowleded hearing something, the rest were what he thought would be a list of people interested. Also, on ZipLive Wistercill said he was looking to have the new coach in the next 2-3 weeks. I say don't hire a search firm and save an extra hundred thousand. He seems like he knows what he wants.Frank Cignetti. if wistrcill does not have a short list in his head he won't last long... Dave in Green
I've been following equins' posts for quite awhile, and he seems to be a pretty straight shooter. It's always difficult for a fan of one school to post on a fan forum of another school as it's so easy to think they're only there to cause problems. But equins has contributed a lot to ZN, and does not fit the profile of a troublemaker.

Yes we are a higher division, but we haven't done anything besides maybe one big play vs. Western Michigan and in the Motor City Bowl and one win vs. NC State.I was at the Mooney state title game today and almost everyone was talking about the YSU job. And I-AA schools beat Syracuse. I'm talking about things we do nationally to make our program known. That would be able to get us a Mark Stoops or a huge national name. Mark Stoops told us thanks but no thanks on even interviewing here. We need to build off of our MAC championship, not go backwards from it. Dr Z
What coaching candidate would be negotiating the salary amount for his assistant coaches? I have heard from numerous people that it is Stoops' job for the taking. Although it will cost YSU a significant amount of money, the expectations here are a LOT higher in Youngstown than in Akron.Youngstown State: The entire city of Youngstown is anxious to find out why Mark Stoops has yet to be named head coach at YSU. We wonder if a major BCS program is interested in Stoops as a DC. Jimbo? Some people believe if Arizona AD Jim Livengood in the next few days, Livengood would turn around and hire Stoops as the UNLV head coach.source
