GoZips
Just received this bulk e-mail this evening ....Additional Tickets Available for Men's Soccer Game AKRON, Ohio – Due to exceptionally high demand, accommodations for additional seating have been made for Saturday's NCAA Tournament match between the University of Akron men's soccer team and Tulsa, the UA Athletics Department announced Wednesday. To purchase tickets to the highly anticipated game, call the Athletics Ticket Office at 1-888-99-AKRON or visit on-line at GoZips.com. The top-seeded Zips (22-0-0) and eighth-seeded Golden Hurricane (15-4-2) will kick off at 4 p.m. (EST) at Lee Jackson Field. To make room for the additional seating, the fence on the west end of the stadium will be removed temporarily and bleachers will be installed. Moreover, to help compensate for what will likely be the team's fifth record-setting crowd of the season, all four gates will be accessible to fans. Once again, the will call table will be available at 2:30 p.m.Akron is attempting to become the first team in 35 years to win a national championship and is currently riding the second longest, single-season win streak in NCAA history. Saturday's game will represent the program's third appearance in an NCAA quarterfinal match.

tbozeglav
I'll get some pictures in a little while, but so far theyve brought in 2 portable bleachers (they go about 6 rows high each) and appear to have room for 2 more. The blue tarp is off the fence, although I am not convinced the view is going to be very pretty from hehind it.

I thought a team won one every year?

Wasn't too bad, but it was along the length of the field, not behind the goal. Hopefully, the view won't be too bad, or UA can temporarily remove the fence (and not just the blue tarp) as I thought was stated on Gozips.com. My guess is that they won't take down the actual fence till the day of the game to prevent anyone from getting onto the field and messing it up. What do you think maximum capacity is now with the added seating?
tbozeglav
What do you think maximum capacity is now with the added seating?all the emails are saying they are expecting 4000+ in attendance for the game, which would absolutely SHATTER the record set last week. bUAkronG
surprised to see the fence already removed. Seems like someone could have easy access to the field. I haven't ventured over there, but I haven't seen any additional fencing put up to keep people out.
LosAngelesZipFan
I am still confused on why Info was built to accommodate soccer... artificial turf seems to be fine for the Sounders and others around the world. After what happened last year, why wouldn't we want at least the option of moving to turf to eliminate any possible playability issues. After what happened last year, why wouldn't we want at least the option of moving to turf to eliminate any possible playability issues.I asked that question myself. I guess that the answer was that they wanted a "more intimate" venue for soccer. The info would be to large and never fill close enough to capacity.I also asked why they couldn't just use the info for post-season or high profile matches where the stadium could fill up more. Then someone said they could have, but the lines and markings on the current field wont accommodate the game.So I guess perhaps it's a little lack of fore-sight

We have the #1 ranked soccer team in the country. All it would take is one phone call a couple weeks in advance to have the proper lines added. bmaker
I don't think the football field provides the width we need....but, I could be wrong.A pointy ball field is 53 yards wide; a soccer field is at least 70 yards.
