bUAkronG
I don't think the football field provides the width we need....but, I could be wrong.A pointy ball field is 53 yards wide; a soccer field is at least 70 yards.yeah I played soccer my whole life, including quite a few games in football stadiums. There should be enough room on both sides of the field for the proper width.

I think that while it'd be great to do soccer on that field, soccer deserves to have its own dedicated facility. Plus, I think that having a dedicated facility for the two sports gives a "big time" feel to both programs. In the realm of FBS football, perception is everything. Having a dual purpose stadium wouldn't give us as good of a perception as we wish to attain.

And btw, in the realm of FBS football, I'll take winning over perception any day.

LosAngelesZipFan
I get what the ideal is, but we don't have that yet. What's the fall back plan-- SVSM? Wouldn't you rather have the fall back be a beautiful brand new stadium with the latest turf tech rather than a high school (or worse, losing the game altogether)? Just askin... Zip Watcher
Probably SV SM .. but the need for the fallback plan is diminishing by the hour. The final game on the LJ pitch for 2009 will be over tomorrow. No worries on field conditions at the moment. And based on the quoting / job specs floating around, it would seem to me that Tom & Louis are handling the drainage and turf issues in time for the Zips to begin the defense of their NCAA title in August. B) B) Go Zips!!

Just askin...They did secure an alternate site (115 x 70 with field turf) in the event that Lee Jackson was unplayable for the tournament. Thankfully it looks as though we're going to make it through all three games with no weather/field issues.

ZachTheZip
The game is officially sold out. It will be broadcast on GoZips.com for free once again. It's great that they aren't charging to watch this.It seems like it could be a great marketing thing: All sold-out games in any sport should be broadcast for free. Every time you can tell people that a game's sold out, it tells them that the game is the place to be on that night. What you lose in subscription fees you make up in the long run from the people impressed by the free broadcast who will hopefully try to get to another game. The Horizon League does the free broadcasts to great success.
