Will Fleming

He greyshirted in 08.The only other school to offer him was Hawaii. Personally, if I had the option to live in Hawaii for practically free for four years I would take it in a heartbeat.
Dad has been speculated on the coaching scoop board as under consideration by Mark Richt at Georgia. I'm not sure Will could fit in, unless as a walk-on. I don't think he seriously considered going away -- never took any recruiting visits. That tells me we could keep him.

Here is some speculation that Princeton may be interested in Jim Fleming. If he's a relatively smart guy, maybe Will would go along and be able to play right away?LinkAlso, check out the mention of YSU/Stoops at the top of the page. Penguin fans seem to be getting a little nervous. I think some of these guys (Stoops, Butch Jones. etc.) are waiting to see what shakes out after ND and a few others name their coaches.

Fleming wasn't only offered by Hawaii. In fact, he had offers from Utah and Boise State (yes, the BCS bound Boise State), as well as major interest from Michigan State. He apparently was ready to sign with Boise St. during the in-home visit with the urging from his parents (including Coach Fleming I assume) to go away for college. Instead though, he went with his heart, which led to Akron. This was all in an ABJ article a while back I believe. He needed surgery early in camp his freshman year, so he opted to greyshirt that year, and therefor played this year as a true freshman. He still has both his redshirt and medical redshirt, so transferring isn't completely out of the equation. Only time will tell what he is going to do.The one thing I do know is that, as a Freshman, he played his a** off this whole year, stepping up in lieu of injuries to other players. He's a great player, and Akron would sure miss out on him if he transfers.

I agree. I always thought Fleming was a stud and a big time player and that we were lucky his dad coached here or we wouldn't have seen him on our campus in the first place. I doubt he stays here considering the situation, and I would assume he gets "found" by some bigger program out there.Unless, of course, the new coach talks him into staying!

that might be the level (coach)fleming could succeed at...too bad akron will likely lose the son...physically he had a lot of upside...

One has to hope that whoever comes to UA next brings players with him in kind. Win some, lose some, hope to finally start to win some games, whoever is playing.
I would recommend Ianello consider trying to keep Fleming as a Zip. He's proven himself to be a fine coach. That fact notwithstanding his son's high prospects. ;)

I doubt that any players that verballed to ND will now come to Akron. If they had offers from ND, they had offers from a lot of big programs. We can all hope though. ;)

Not so fast Buckzip. Don't forget that players came from Pitt to UA with JD. On a slightly related note, I still assert what I said on a thread in the recruiting forum. Unless you are a sure-fire star at the major D-1 level, with a spot essentially carved out for you in the starting lineup or in rotation, you are a fool to not consider STRONGLY the smaller programs. There is very little difference between the football factories and the smaller programs in 2009/2010 when it comes to potential exposure to NFL scouts and television audiences. If you can play, you WILL be scouted and assessed. Knowing that, why don't kids give themselves their very best opportunities to see the playing field, develop their skill sets and showcase themselves for the next level? I just can't believe that great athletes screw themselves by going to a ND only to be buried on the depth charts, severely limiting their chances to develop and to gain critical exposure, instead of attending a "lesser" program and playing their asses off. I digress, but who knows, maybe he'll bring a few winning kids along for the ride.
