OldZipper
However, just to confuse everyone more, if the National Championship game ends in a tie and goes to PKs, the winner of the PKs will be credited with a win and the other team a loss. The way the NCAA does it, only the national championship game does not end in a tie. About 6-7 years ago they did credit all PK games as a win/loss but changed it for whatever reason. zippyrifle32
so where are people (the ones in Akron) watching tomorrow? I prefer not to go to the Barley House either... though they do have good beer cheese soup!
RootforRoo44
so where are people (the ones in Akron) watching tomorrow? I prefer not to go to the Barley House either... though they do have good beer cheese soup!Just a recommendation: I watched at Brubakers and they had some deals (2.50 Budweiser/Budlight in Akron Cups that you could keep) during the game and they really catered well to the Zips fans. They even turned every TV but one off the Cavs game and onto the Zips at gametime. It was really cool. So that is definitely an option and i know that many Zips fans will be there. Z.I.P.
To my knowledge -- though my memory may have gone the opposite direction of my cholesterol count after all the fried food I've eaten -- the penalty kick rule has been the same as it currently is, as long as I can recall. The point to understand is this (I'll try to explain it as easily as I did to David Lee Morgan in 2005, when he game Akron two more losses than they actually had): Penalty kicks are NOT part of the game that precedes them. It's just that simple. When a game goes through regulation and two overtimes with the score even, it is recorded as a draw (with the exception, I suppose of the final, in which case, perhaps just to avoid confusion or contradiction, you cannot have a 'draw' for reasons that make we soccer purists shrug). The only reason that penalty kicks occur is for the purpose of determining which team advances or is champion in a tournament. I'm always dismayed at how Americans fail to understand these rules that have been around since the dawn of time . And it provides we soccer snobs yet another excuse for looking down our noses at the non-Guinness drinking world where "football" is something you run with in your hands. The boys at Where Are Ya Designs have a sticker and T-shirt with an American football above the word "Throwball". I think it started when someone suggested it should be called "handball", not football, and some fan of the other football said, "well , nya nya, yours should be called kickball", etc, etc... Z.I.P.
I just saw this on the "Official Web Site". The team celebration will be in JANUARY??? You have got to be kidding me!?!?!?!?! How could they allow anything to get in the way of this opportunity to play up potentially the biggest accomplishment in school history? Keep these kids in town another two days -- how hard is that? My mouth is hanging open! http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...TCLID=204848017

As a former "rugger" I find this reference to futbol offensive. Rugby, not wussy "soccer" is the man'strue sport. A rugger can out drink you pencil necked geeks any day. Rugby, the true he man's sport. And I have the twisted knee and gnarled fingers to prove it.

I think it started when someone suggested it should be called "handball", not football, and some fan of the other football said, "well , nya nya, yours should be called kickball", etc, etc... I understand the rule and I understand that Akron is 23-0-01, but it is still hard to reconcile that with the fact that Akron won the game. Even the ncaaa.com website has an article on the game in which it refers to the Akron "win." A poster on the ABJ site tried to use the analogy of "sudden death" in a PGA event, and how the extra holes don't count toward the player's tournament score, but even then the player is given credit for the victory on his career total. Its a strange rule. Nobody will ever be able to convince the North Carolina players that they did not lose that game. From what I'm reading on the various boards, Virginia is given a slight edge, especially given that the crowd will be heavily pro-ACC.This has become the signature sports program at the university. They better do whatever they need to to keep Caleb. Make him the highest paid college soccer coach in the country. He has earned it.
