ksu sucks
http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives...Soccer+By+Ives)after Akron lost in the NCAA College Cup Final to Virginia in penalty kicks.Multiple sources told SBI on Tuesday evening that D.C. United offered Porter the job on Monday, and after some soul-searching, Porter decided to stay with Akron. The University issued a press release announcing that it had signed Porter to a new five-year contract on late Tuesday."After reaching the pinnacle of college soccer this season, my vision will be to sustain the program for long-term success as one of the nation's elite programs," Porter said in the Akron statement. "This an exciting time for Akron Soccer and with upgrades to the facility on the horizon I am confident we have all the resources necessary to continue competing for national championships for many years to come." zen
I have to admit that I was wrong.I thought for sure he was gone. This doesn't fit the well established template I have for the university not wanting to invest in the best,or in individuals with virtues and objectives other than higher fame and fortune. Zip Watcher
It fits my understanding of the vision set forth by Proenza & Thomas, and carried forward by Rhodes & now Tom: Think bigger than the current conference. Strive to be the best in the state and compete on a national stage.Well done guys .. Go Zips! B) B)

UAZipster0305
I am estatic! Coach Porter could develop this program into a dynasty. I truly believe he is the best coach in the country. Kudos to Dr. P and Tom W. for getting this done.No shame in not winning the National Championship this year either. UVa was outplayed in both of their games and was fortunate enough to win. At the point of PK's, it really does come down to luck. A terrible way to decide the trophy, and I really don't see it as us losing. Unscored upon in the NCAA Tournament is enough for me to know that we are the true National Champions.Hell of a career for Zemanski and all the other players have another opportunity to win one next year. RowdyZip
I can't seem to read these stories enough. Each one makes me smile! Does anyone know how much season tickets run? Thanks for sticking around, Coach Porter. GO ZIPS!
zip37
When I wisely gave up my season FB tix, I paid $50 for the pleasure of watching what one man not accociated with the Zips 'is the finest non-pro soccer team he's ever seen! Thanks for sticking around, Coach Porter. GO ZIPS!They were $50 in person and $55 with the handling fee by phone. Best decision that I made in 2009! GO ZIPS! I'm looking forward to the spring exhibition season. These guys are so much FUN to watch.

I'm looking forward to the spring exhibition season. These guys are so much FUN to watch.Plus we got the cool soccer scarf to go with it (which looked nice on me when they showed me on ESPN2 for the a couple of seconds at the final ). I don't live in state and I only got an opportunity to watch a few games in person with my season ticket, but I bought it solely to help support the team (and it helped me get a ticket to the NCAA tournament). Best $55 I've spent in a long time. And to me the best line in the entire story on GoZips about Caleb staying is this:The Zips have been just as impressive in the classroom under Porter's watch with nine players named to the all-conference academic team; with more expected this season. UA posted a team GPA of 3.256 in 2009 and were led by a pair of Academic All-Americans, sophomore Kofi Sarkodie (first team) and senior Ben Zemanski (third team). Elliot Bradbrook earned Academic All-American honors (second team) in 2007.

Thank you Caleb and the rest of the guys for a GREAT season. How awesome would it be to sell out the season before the first game is played?Hey Tom Wistrcill, here's an idea: make soccer season tickets count for both the mens and womens teams. Don't forget the womens team had their best season in program history, too. It could quadruple their average paid attendance.

Z.I.P.
Porter looking more like a genius every day. United fires Curt Onalfo after just 7 months. I hope they don't hire Bob Bradley. That would start the "Porter to head USMNT" speculation!
johnnyzip84
This is another great article on Porter and his role as a USA U-18 assistant coach. There is a plethora of Zips coverage as well. Link
